Something in Lily's demeanor turned suddenly, chillingly cold enough to make Diane flinch.

It took her a second to register what had just happened.

Diane crossed her arms, sneering. "I'm your mother, Lily. You'd actually hit me?"

Lily's hands curled into fists.

She swallowed down everything rising in her chest. "You've taken more than enough from me over the years. I've paid every debt I owe you. As of today, I owe you nothing."

With that, she turned toward the elevator.
