The office of Herrera & Sons gleamed under the harsh morning lights—an intimidating temple of glass, steel, and silent judgment. Everything about it screamed cold efficiency... just like its CEO.
Into that icy perfection stormed Valeria Mendoza—twenty-six years old, five-foot-five of determined chaos—clutching a leaking caramel macchiato and her last shred of patience.
"¡Maldita sea!" she hissed, frantically dabbing at the spreading coffee stain on her cream blouse with a disintegrating napkin.
The receptionist at the front desk flinched. "Señorita Mendoza, are you okay?"
"Perfect," Valeria said with a strained smile. "Just embracing my destiny as a walking frappuccino."
Without waiting for sympathy, she stalked toward the elevator, her high ponytail bouncing, her heels clicking like gunshots across the marble floor.
Today was important. She needed to get the updated design boards to him — the Ice King himself — before the morning meeting. If she was lucky, she'd escape with only a mild glare instead of a full corporate execution.
She jabbed at the elevator button, muttering under her breath, "One day, I’m going to pour hot coffee on Alejandro Herrera and call it an avant-garde design choice."
A low voice behind her said coolly, "Noted."
Valeria froze.
Her stomach plummeted as she turned — slowly — and met Alejandro Herrera’s smirking gaze.
He was maddeningly, unfairly gorgeous, even when he looked like he’d rather be anywhere else. Tall, broad-shouldered, dressed in a crisp charcoal suit that probably cost more than her monthly rent. His dark hair was perfectly tousled, his jawline sharp enough to cut glass, and his gray eyes cold enough to freeze oceans.
"Señor Herrera," she said, forcing a sickly sweet smile. "Didn’t see you there. Probably because I was busy going blind from caffeine trauma."
His gaze flicked pointedly to the coffee stain on her blouse. His lips twitched — an almost-smile that was somehow more dangerous than a scowl.
"Interesting choice of attire for a staff meeting," he said.
Valeria bit the inside of her cheek. Hard.
"I’ll change before the meeting," she said through gritted teeth. "The coffee... fought back."
"Mmm." He stepped into the elevator, casually pressing the top floor button without looking. "Make sure you change your attitude, too."
Valeria barely swallowed a growl as she followed him inside.
"Do I have a choice?" she muttered.
"Not today," Alejandro said smoothly, eyes fixed on the gleaming doors as they slid shut.
8:00 a.m. — Conference Room, Top Floor
Valeria laid out the design boards with shaking hands, willing her heart to stop racing. She hated how Alejandro got under her skin. Hated even more how he noticed her — not with kindness, but with sharp, assessing interest, like she was a puzzle he didn’t have time to solve.
The door opened again.
Alejandro walked in, his expression unreadable. But something was off. His steps were slower. His brows furrowed slightly as he studied the materials... then her.
Without preamble, he said, "Change of plans."
Valeria stiffened. "Did I miss something?"
"I need you to come with me. Now. No questions."
She blinked. "Excuse me?"
"There’s a brunch meeting. Important investors. They’re traditional. Conservative. They value stability. Family. Marriage."
She crossed her arms. "And you want me to... what? Serve the coffee?"
Alejandro took two strides toward her, stopping so close she caught a whiff of his expensive cologne — clean, sharp, unfairly intoxicating.
"I want you to be my fiancée."
Valeria's jaw dropped.
"I’m sorry," she said, voice rising. "Did I just fall into a bad telenovela?"
He didn’t even flinch. "It’s temporary. Just until the deal closes. You’ll be compensated."
"Compensated?" she repeated, laughing hollowly. "You’re offering me a bribe to play house?"
"Triple your current salary," he said smoothly.
Valeria hesitated.
God knew she needed the money. Her mother’s medical bills were stacking up like dominoes, and Valeria was drowning faster every month.
Alejandro must have sensed her struggle because he leaned closer, voice low and coaxing. "You need the money. I need the image. We don’t have to like each other. Just act like we do."
She stared at him, tempted to hurl the coffee-stained folder at his perfect face.
But... triple salary.
Medical bills.
And, if she was honest, a dark, reckless part of her wanted to see what it would be like — to pretend she was the woman Alejandro Herrera chose.
Even if it was all a lie.
"Fine," she snapped. "But if you ever call me ‘darling’ in public, I’m suing for emotional distress."
A ghost of a smile crossed his face.
"I’ll risk it," he said.
And that was how Valeria Mendoza — broke, burnt, and one spilled coffee away from unemployment — became the fake fiancée of Mexico’s most heartless CEO.
At least, that was the plan.
Neither of them realized that the legal folder Valeria had accidentally signed last week — tucked inside a stack of design contracts — was a real marriage license.
And the storm they were about to unleash?
It would be anything but fake.
***EPILOGUE***As Xavier sat behind bars for the second time, his mind wandered back to that day. How he had been outsmarted he could not tell. He should have known Bianca's reappearance was not a mere coincidence, but his desperation to preserve his legacy had blinded him and he could not think deeply about the situation. He remembered the walk of absolute shame as he stepped out of the house, blinding lights clouding his vision with red dots aimed at every inch of his body. He could have resisted and put up some drama but what was the use? It was over now and he himself knew it. Mann had gone down with him as well and even though he had not said a thing to the authorities, it was certain he was going to face a heavy sentence. It did not matter whether or not he confessed all the heinous things he had done in the past, the maximum security prison was going to be his new home.Of course, Xavier did not spare Abigail. He knew he was about to face death by lethal injection so the leas
Chapter 207“You don't think we should call first?" Caleb asked Mr Rodriguez in a slightly shaky voice as they settled in the conference room.“No, we shouldn't. He knows this is just as important to him as it is to us. Let's wait for his call," Rodriguez replied with a sense of calm that Caleb found surprising considering how tense the situation was.He looked towards his lawyer. “How much were we able to raise?" "Seven hundred and forty million, sir.”"A hundred and sixty million short,” Jane muttered under her breath, just as worried as Caleb."Are you sure it won't be a problem, Mr Rodriguez? Xavier can be unpredictable sometimes.”“Everything will be fine," the negotiator assured.Caleb nodded and called Ross again. Last he heard from him, their suspect was driving down from Boston back to their city and police were on standby to know exactly where the tracking device would settle so they could get the exact location and surround the area.“Any updates?" He asked when Ross answe
Chapter 206“Have you heard from Jane yet, darling?" Trevor asked Lillian through his car window as he drove out of the garage. “Not yet. I called her twice but she didn't answer so I guessed they're just too busy with sorting the situation out. You know today's the deadline," Lillian responded with a hint of sadness.“Yeah, I do. Don't stress yourself too much about it alright? But try to contact her to at least assure her that everything will be fine. She may need your support more than she thinks." Lillian smiled at him softly. “How am I so lucky to have a man like you?" “I could ask myself the same," Trevor chuckled. “Don't forget to update me when you speak to her, and I hope you'll be dressed and ready for our movie date tonight. Wear something sexy,” he added with a wink.“Trust me, I don't need to be told twice,” she replied and they laughed. Trevor blew her a kiss which she pretended to catch and place in her heart before watching him drive off. Trevor drove towards the
Chapter 205By the morning of the third day, the atmosphere was charged with tension. It was the day that they were to report back to Xavier with 900 million dollars as agreed but all they had been able to pull together was $650m. Caleb felt he was caught between the devil and the deep blue sea because all the choices they had at that moment may put his son's life at risk.He was banking on the success of Bianca's idea and the hope that Xavier felt compelled to act on it quickly.Every passing minute gnawed at him while he waited for a call from Ross. He couldn't sit still for more than twenty minutes because it made him feel like he was wasting time doing nothing while his son's life was in danger.Jane, on the other hand, sat quietly though anxiously at a corner of his office, whispering prayers to whoever cared to listen and hoping desperately that their little gamble turned out for the best. Finally, Caleb's cellphone rang and he literally sprang up to answer it. Jane rushed ove
Chapter 202By the second day, both Jane and Caleb were a little more relaxed and more hopeful. The previous day, they had been able to raise a hundred and fifty million dollars, and after the news of what was going on got to Rose, she reached out to a few friends who raised an extra seventy milli

Chapter 204“What the… Bianca, what are you doing here?!” Caleb glowered.“I've been blowing up your phone since morning and you've been deliberately ignoring me so I decided to come myself. And, oh, you owe me a refund of my plane tickets. I flew business class.”"Bianca!” Caleb called again. "Wha
Chapter 203While Jane was still lost in her thoughts, Caleb was walking from one end to another, also wondering.“I don't trust her," he said all of a sudden and Jane's head snapped up to him.“What?" “I don't know if we should trust Abigail. Everything's been so suspicious and coincidental latel
