CHAPTER 98

The water from the shower was refreshingly warm as Jane turned it on. She sighed and raised her face to let the water trickle down her scalp before reaching out to grab the soap.

She was done in a few minutes and wrapped a towel around her body but it was extremely thick and heavy so she took it off and folded it properly before putting on the clothes she had worn the previous night.

She smoothened her dress the best way she could and flipped her wet hair up in a ponytail, hoping to blow-dry it when she reached home.

She picked up her phone and smiled when she saw a text from Brian already waiting for her.

> Happy morning, Jane. How bad is the hangover? Text me when you get this.

She swiped on the message to reply but was interrupted by another buzzing and Caleb's name flashed across the screen. Her smile slowly faded.

It was the day that they were to report back to Xavier with 900 million dollars as agreed but all they had been able to pull together was $650m. The previous day, they had been able to raise a hundred and fifty million dollars, and after the news of what was going on got to Rose, she reached out to a few friends who raised an extra seventy million before midnight. Caleb was not quite comfortable that she had called on people to make donations but he was grateful that they could without being told what was going on in detail. “Alright, I'll see you at the office,” Jane told Caleb that morning and planted a soft kiss on his cheek before leaving the room.
