Regina’s POV

Patricia sat at the head of the table, legal documents spread before her. Ben Miller, the custody specialist we’d hired, reviewed testimony strategies while Alexander monitored media coverage on his laptop.

“The hearing is in eighteen hours,” Patricia said, checking her watch. “We have solid evidence of Morgana’s manipulation and testimony from three nurses who witnessed Regina’s condition.”

“What about Maxwell’s counter-strategy?” Ben asked.

“Defensive. They’re claiming Regina is using facility abuse allegations to distract from her abandoned mothering responsibilities.”

I sat quietly in my chair, listening to their tactical discussions while staring out the window at the city below. The hearing would determine whether I’d ever have a real relationship with Ivan, whether Mia would finally be able to acknowledge her brother openly.

My phone rang. Unknown number.

“Regina Veyron.”

“Hello, Regina.”

Morgana’s voice answered back. I sat up properly, frowning. What did she want

  • After I Died, He Truly Panicked   Chapter 150: Where It All Began

Regina’s POVI dressed carefully, not for appearances, just a reassurance that I was in control.A simple black dress, fitted at the waist, nothing extravagant. The kind of thing that let me stand tall, even when my knees felt like breaking. My hair was pinned back, and I had applied light makeup. I wanted to look like myself, not like a victim. Not like the woman Maxwell and Morgana had tried to shatter in the very house I was going to visit.I swallowed roughly.Mia padded behind me, holding Sir Firebreath by the tail. She was quiet this morning, too.Normally, she’d chatter while I adjusted her shoes or packed her bag. Instead, she just watched me with those wide eyes, as though she could already feel the storm I was walking us into.I hoped she knew that I would never put her into any kind of danger. Well, not again. At the door, Lindsay caught my hand. Her grip was warm. “You’ll be fine,” she whispered, though her eyes betrayed her nerves. “Good luck, Regina.”I only nodded becau

  • After I Died, He Truly Panicked   Chapter 149: Back Into The Fire

Regina’s POVI woke up with a shriek.I was back there again, the room where they cut Ivan out of my body, leaving me for the dead. Morgana’s twisted face telling me they killed my child. Then I was at the warehouse. Mia and Ivan, both standing still in front of me.I wanted to reach out to them, to hold them, but when I brought my hands up, both of them were wound around a gun. That’s how I woke up shrieking, my body drenched in sweat as I gasped and panted. The glass full of water at my bedside was a lifesaver, and I immediately gulped it down. Still, my throat remained dry because I couldn’t shake the images out of my head. These past couple of days have been hell.Every night, I’ve been waking up after a nightmare. My entire body trembling because of the terrifying scenarios my mind conjured up.I didn’t want to tell anyone because everyone had their own problems to worry about, but these nightmares were eating me up from the inside.I almost, almost got myself sleeping pills yest

  • After I Died, He Truly Panicked   Chapter 148: Cutting Ties

Maxwell’s POVThe car entered through the steel doors and away from the prying eyes of the reporters who were there when we got to the estate.I kept Ivan’s face pressed up close to me so he didn’t see the mess outside.I called my assistant immediately. “Can you call the police to get rid of the mess outside the house? Ivan doesn’t need to see all this.”“I apologize, Mr. Chamberlain. I did complain, but it seems like someone found out about your arrival, and everyone just rushed in.”“Don’t worry about that. Just make sure they’re not here anymore. I don’t want to feel like many eyes are watching me while I’m in my own house.”When the car stopped in front of the porch, the driver was out first, steadying me as I swung my legs out, the ache in my shoulder reminding me of every mistake, every second I’d let my guard down. The private caretaker I had hired to help me and Ivan out in the upcoming days lifted Ivan’s small bag from the trunk while my son clung to my hand. His grip was ti

  • After I Died, He Truly Panicked   Chapter 147: Broken Bonds

Regina’s POVThere has been an uncomfortable silence in the Veyron estate ever since Sandra took Ivan away.No one knows what to do or how to console Mia, and at this point, even I feel helpless.I’ve been putting up such a brave front ever since things went into motion that now I’m thinking, how long do I have to go through these things again and again? Will there ever be a stop to my suffering?Mia hadn’t stopped crying since. She was in her room, her sobs echoing down the hall like knives dragging across stone. Every time her cries rose, my chest clenched tighter, anger pulsing like fire beneath my skin. The twins had been treated like pawns, like bargaining chips in some twisted family feud, and I couldn’t shake the fury that bubbled inside me.I don't want the children to go through any more trauma than they already have.Enough is enough.I couldn’t forget the look on Sandra’s face, the way she disregarded Mia, and didn't even look at her properly.Mia was her granddaughter as m

  • After I Died, He Truly Panicked   Chapter 146: The Breaking Point

Maxwell’s POVI flipped through the different channels on the TV, but nothing was holding my attention even for a second.Jonathan had kept his promise and released a press statement about how devastating the events that unfolded were, making sure to drop how I had no idea that things could go this far.I sighed heavily. I was so ready to just leave this room.It wasn’t the room making me antsy, but the feeling of everything slipping away from my fingers while I lay waste here.I wasn’t expecting anyone to visit. Not when I was two days away from finally walking out of this hospital.Which was why I jumped when my hospital door opened and Mother walked in with... Ivan in tow,I blinked rapidly. “Mother,” I said slowly, my voice rough. “What is Ivan doing here?”She smiled as though she had brought me a gift, not a living, breathing child who should’ve been safe with Mia and Regina, where I had allowed him to be.“I thought you’d be happy to see him. I brought him back yesterday. He’s

  • After I Died, He Truly Panicked   Chapter 145: Taking Him Back

Regina’s POVMaxwell’s mother opened her arms gracefully, the corner of her mouth softening into a sweet and, to my surprise, genuine smile.Ivan ran straight into her embrace.“My darling boy,” she said warmly, her hand stroking the back of his head. “Oh, how I’ve missed you. I’ve been so worried. So, so worried.”Ivan melted against her, his little face pressing into her tightly like she was his anchor in an unfamiliar place. Oh, how I wish that weren’t the case.I froze halfway down the stairs, my hand tightening around Mia until she gave a small squeak of protest. She looked up at me with confusion, but I couldn’t force myself to let go.Not when Sandra Chamberlain’s eyes left her grandson and finally landed on me.It took everything in my power to meet her eyes head on, not flinching back at the glare she was shooting my way.Why was she here? What did she want?My heart skipped at the next thought. Had Maxwell sent her to see if I was treating Ivan right? The sweetness in her ga
