Maxwell’s POV

I’d been staring at Joshua Beck’s smug face for months, in headlines, in press conferences, on quarterly reports, and every time I did, it made my blood boil.

A little bit of digging was all I required to find out that Joshua had been a part of more things than I could have imagined.

The man had stood beside me at business summits, toasted champagne with me, smiled for the cameras as though we were allies.

All while he’d been helping Thomas Klein run a goddamn human trafficking and organ-harvesting front disguised as a wellness facility, and had taken Regina there.

No, I wasn’t going to let him walk free.

The board meeting that morning was my battleground. And Joshua didn’t even see it coming.

He strutted into the Reinhardt Group’s glass-walled conference room like he owned the world, pressed suit, hair slicked back, tie in perfect order. I almost admired the performance.

“Gentlemen,” he said, flashing that politician’s smile. “I trust everyone’s had time to review the q

Regina’s POVThe house was quiet. The kids were asleep, their soft breathing drifting up from the wing Maxwell and I had helped them settle into. Living under the same roof had been… easier than I’d expected. Easier, and yet somehow more complicated.I padded into the kitchen in my slippers, craving a glass of water in the middle of the night. The faint hum of the refrigerator, the scent of coffee lingering from earlier, it all felt normal, domestic, comforting. And then I froze.Maxwell was already there, leaning against the counter, a cup of coffee in his hands. “You know,” he said, voice low, “this is where it happened.”I blinked. “Where what happened?”He smirked, that half-grin that could disarm me even on my worst days. “Right here. First kiss after we came back into each other’s lives.”My heart skipped a beat, and I felt warmth creep across my cheeks. “You’re reminding me on purpose.”“Maybe I am,” he said, his eyes soft but intense. “Or maybe I just want to see if it still w

Regina’s POVThe moment I smelled the salt in the air, I knew Maxwell was up to something. We’d been driving for hours, the kids buzzing in the back seat with questions Maxwell kept dodging with a sly smile. Now, as the car turned into a narrow road lined with palm trees and dunes, I looked at him, arching a brow.“Maxwell Chamberlain,” I said, trying to sound stern but already smiling, “what exactly are you planning?”He grinned, eyes hidden behind his sunglasses. “You’ll see.”From the back seat, Mia piped up. “Mom, is it the zoo?”“No,” Ivan said confidently, pressing his face to the window. “It’s… the amusement park! I can smell popcorn!”Maxwell chuckled. “Close, both of you.”And then we turned a corner, and the ocean came into view, vast, blue, endless. The kids gasped. “The beach!” they screamed together.Mia clapped her hands, and Ivan practically unbuckled himself before we’d even parked. I turned to Maxwell, speechless for a second.“You planned this?”He smiled softly, the

Maxwell’s POVThe chandeliers above Saint Mary’s Grand Hall cast a dim golden haze, their light fractured by crystal and smoke. The annual gala was supposed to be the social highlight of the year, a parade of polished smiles and deep pockets, but tonight, the air was thinner. The crowd was smaller. The laughter more restrained. The Harpers’ scandal had turned the room into a minefield of polite avoidance.I adjusted the cuff of my tuxedo and scanned the hall. The scent of champagne and lilies couldn’t mask the tension curling under it all. People whispered in corners, eyes darting toward the main table, where the Harper name used to mean power and respect. Now it was a liability.I caught sight of Director Collins near the bar, laughing too loudly at something the hospital’s board chair had said. His smile was as fake as the apology he’d given me months ago when he and Mr. Harper had cornered Regina and me in that office, when they’d threatened us to back off. But, in the end, we hadn

Maxwell’s POVI was buried in quarterly reports and legal updates, the fallout from the Serenity case still bleeding into every corner of my work, when Clara appeared at the door. She looked hesitant, which was never a good sign. “Sir,” she said, her voice low, “there’s someone here asking to see you. She doesn’t have an appointment, but she says it’s urgent.”I didn’t look up from my desk. “Who is it?”“She says her name is Maude Faye.”That made me freeze. Slowly, I lifted my gaze. “What did you just say?”“Maude Faye,” Clara repeated, frowning slightly. “She said you’d recognize the name.”I leaned back in my chair, the memory slicing through me like a blade. Maude Faye, Morgana’s mother. The woman I’d personally had escorted off my property after Morgana kidnapped my children.I’d accused her of knowing what Morgana was going to do and keeping silent. She hadn’t denied it, just begged me to believe she hadn’t meant harm. I hadn’t cared. Now she was here. For a moment, I considered

  • After I Died, He Truly Panicked   Chapter 427: Confession

Lindsay’s POVThe night air was crisp when I stepped onto the rooftop. The city stretched below like a galaxy of lights, endless, glittering, cold. I wasn’t sure what I was doing there. When I’d gotten Frederick’s message, I’d read it three times just to make sure it wasn’t some sort of mistake.“Meet me tonight. Rooftop. Please.”No explanation. No warning. Just that single, clipped message.I almost didn’t come. But curiosity, and something far more dangerous, had pulled me here anyway.Frederick stood near the edge, hands shoved into the pockets of his black coat, the wind tugging at his hair. He looked… smaller somehow. Not in height, but in weight, like someone who had finally stopped pretending to carry everything alone. When he turned, the city lights caught the edges of his face. For a moment, neither of us said a word.“You came,” he said finally. His voice was low, careful.“I wasn’t sure I should.”“I wasn’t sure you would.”The wind carried the silence between us. I wrappe
