Ella’s POV

“Stay right there, Fiona. Don’t come any closer.” Jordan’s voice was sharp with anger.

Was this man serious? He had a girlfriend, yet he behaved that way with me yesterday. Not that I cared about this brat making all this noise, but I did feel sorry for her for loving a man like Jordan, a man who was clearly a cheat. The attraction I felt toward him just moments ago had turned into disgust instantly.

Jordan walked toward the door. “What are you doing here, Fiona? And why are you causing a scene in my home?”

I stood frozen, wanting nothing more than to disappear. I didn’t belong in this drama.

Fiona’s voice was shrill with disbelief. “Your girlfriend comes to see you, and this is what you have to say to me, Jordan? You’ve never treated me this way before. Is it because of this lowlife maid?”

She turned to me with a look of pure disdain, like I was nothing more than dirt beneath her feet. Maybe I was, compared to her.

Jordan’s voice was ice-cold. “You don’t get to insult her. And I’ll ask you one last time—why are you here?”

His fury confused me. Wasn’t he the one at fault? Was this the real Jordan—the kind of man who lost his temper easily? Because last night had felt different. He was gentle, yet intoxicatingly intense. The memory made me smile for a second before I remembered where I was.

“I’m here to see you,” Fiona snapped. “I called your phone, but you ignored me. I went to your office and your house, and no one would tell me anything. When we get back, those people are getting fired. So I came here, and of course, I found you. But tell me, Jordan, why is everyone acting like they’ve never seen me before?” She stepped closer, sliding her hands over his shoulders. “I miss you, babe. Let’s go on a vacation. We need it.”

This scene was irritating me, even though she was his girlfriend. Could they at least let me leave? Or better yet, get a room?

Jordan suddenly shoved her hands off him. “Get your filthy hands off me, Fiona.”

She gasped. “What?”

“You really take me for a fool, don’t you?” His tone was cold, calculated. “While I worked, you were out sleeping with other men. And then you come back here, acting like nothing happened? You’re sick.” His lips curled in disgust. “I can’t believe I ever considered making you my wife.”

Fiona’s face paled. “You don’t mean that, Jordan. You love me. And I love you—that’s what matters.”

Jordan turned, grabbed an envelope from his desk, and shoved it at her. “These are pictures of all the men you’ve been with behind my back. Daniel in Miami—he must be a regular, since he appears three times, all smiles, holding your hand, walking into a hotel like you didn’t have a boyfriend. And inside that envelope are bank records of the money you’ve been stealing from my company and wiring to your boyfriends.” His voice was cold. “You can go be with them now.”

Fiona’s hands trembled as she took the envelope.

That explained everything—why Jordan had acted the way he did last night. He had found out about her betrayal, and that must have been why he was at the club.

“John, take her out of my office.” He commanded.

The tall, dark man from earlier reappeared and grabbed Fiona by the arm. She struggled, tears streaming down her face. “Jordan, please! I can explain! I’m sorry!”

Jordan didn’t even look at her.

When the door finally closed behind them, leaving just the two of us, he turned to me. “Ella, I’m sorry you had to see that. I know you must think the worst of me, but I promise you—I’m not the man you think I am.”

I didn’t know what to say. It wasn’t my place to judge. I was just a maid in his mother’s house. A foolish maid who had slept with a man she barely knew.

He took a slow step toward me. “I can’t explain everything to you now, but eventually, I will. I just… I want to get to know you.”

That caught me off guard. How did he plan to do that? We had no connection beyond last night’s mistake. And his ex looked like the kind of woman who could make my life miserable.

“I’m sorry, Master,” I said carefully. “But my job is to serve you and Mrs. Denver. I work for your mother, and I can’t afford to lose my job. If that’s all, may I take my leave now?”

He studied me, his intense gaze making my skin prickle. It felt like he was stripping me bare with his eyes.

After a pause, he nodded. “Fine. But I’ll warn you, just like I did yesterday—you don’t play with fire and expect not to get burned. I don’t give up.”

His words sent a shiver down my spine. Without another word, I turned and walked away, feeling his gaze linger on me.

Back in the servants’ quarters, I told Maya everything, and her reaction mirrored mine.

“That girl is so dumb,” she scoffed. “Did she really think a man like Jordan wouldn’t have his eyes on her?”

I didn’t comment. Maybe he had loved Fiona once. Maybe he still did.

Before we started working for the Denvers, we had been given compensation money—an attempt to make us feel like we were leaving something worthwhile behind. They were right though.

I had some of that money on me now. It wasn’t much, but I had to send it back to Hong Kong. The hospital needed it. The woman who had helped me for so long needed it.

After getting permission from Mrs. Evelyn, the chief maid, I left the house and made my way to the bank. The evening was cool, the streets alive with chatter and distant car horns. As I walked past a beautiful park, I made a silent promise to visit it when I had the time.

As I stared at the garden, next thing I knew I heard screeching and then I was on the floor, blood oozing out of my body and so much pain filled me.

My vision became blurry but I could tell people were surrounding me already “Call 911” a woman screamed and just then, I understood I had been run over.

  • After One Night    Chapter 106

Jess’s POVOnly the unlucky get attacked on the night of their honeymoon, and it turned out I was one of those unlucky ones.I struggled to pry my eyes open, and it felt like they’d been closed for eternity. My body felt paralyzed, and my head throbbed a lot. Once I finally got my eyes to open, I turned my neck slowly to look around me, but there was no one. This place sure wasn’t my home. The house looked like it had been made strictly out of bamboo. “Where am I?” I murmured, trying to wake up from the painful bed I had been laying on, but I noticed footsteps approaching, and I pretended to be asleep. What if they were bad people and wanted to hurt me? I had to be careful. “Maria!” I heard a female voice yell, and some more footsteps approached.“Yes, Mum?”I struggled to peep and found a younger lady; she looked about 18 years old.“I was finally able to get us some newspapers. Now look at this woman in the picture; doesn’t she look like this lady we saved?” The woman asked, and th

  • After One Night    Chapter 105

Jordan’s POVThe drive back home was long and silent. I had shut my mind away from any sound and let my thoughts swirl around. It was pretty late, and I was certain Andrea should have been sleeping, so I didn’t bother to check. I went straight ahead to find John. I made it inside, and Miss Anna was in the kitchen as usual. I wondered if this woman ever got to take time off for herself and just stop standing there always. She noticed my presence and turned to me immediately with a smile. “Good evening, Mr. Denver,” she bowed and greeted, but I shrugged, and her smile faded fast. “Where are Jerome and John?” I asked in a calm but stern tone. “They’re by the pool, sir, having a drink,” she replied, her voice shaky. I turned on my heel without so much as a thank you and made my way to the pool area. John and Jerome seemed to be having a great discussion. I could tell from how loud their laughter was as I approached them. Why does everyone find it so fucking easy to move on from the d

Jordan’s POV“Jess!”“Jess!”“Bye, Jordan, please take care of yourself and Andrea, that’s my only wish,” Jess sobbed, standing before me in the white, silky nightgown she wore on the night of the explosion, but it was messed up with blood stains.“Don’t tell me goodbye, Jess. Andrea’s waiting for you, and I am too. Please stay, my love,” I wailed, but she began to disappear into the darkness.“I love you, Jordan. I’ll always love you,” she yelled and disappeared completely. I had tried to grab her hand, but she was gone. The woman I loved so much was gone.“No, Jess, I love you. Please don’t leave me,” I cried, tossing and turning, sweat dripping down my face faster than a water slide. I dug my fingers into the sheets and held on tight, as if doing that would make her appear again.I felt a hand on my shoulder. “Boss…” the voice came, but my eyes refused to cooperate. “Boss, it’s me, John,” the voice came again, this time shaking me with more force.“Jess!” I kept yelling as the tear

  • After One Night    Chapter 103

Jess’s POVThe night breeze blew Jess’s hair in the right direction as I wrapped my hands around her waist from behind, my head buried in her neck. We had chosen to spend our honeymoon enjoying the sweetness of nature, and I must say it was the best decision.“This is incredible,” she whispered, turning her face slightly behind to meet mine.I grinned, pulling her tighter. “Only the best for my wife,” I said, my voice laced with affection. I kissed her cheeks softly. “It’s only the beginning of a good life, Mrs. Denver.”The evening went on smoothly as we dined under the stars on the upper deck. The candlelights flickered between us, and the sound of the stream brought out sweet melodies. After dinner, we had an intense lovemaking session until Jess could no longer feel her body move. Her tiredness made me chuckle as I covered her up in some sheets and made my way outside to enjoy the rest of the night. But as I stepped out of the door leading to the upper deck, I felt a cold metal po

  • After One Night    Chapter 102

Third Person’s POVJordan’s fear about the message he received in Vegas lingered. Even as they returned to Evergreen, and right up till today, their wedding day, it haunted him. As he dressed up in his impeccable suit, Jordan and Jerome stood behind him with grins on their faces. Jordan turned around to face them as Jerome pretended to make crying noises. “I can’t believe he’s all grown up,” he teased, and they burst into laughter.Jordan stretched out his hands as they helped him with his cufflinks. “John, what did Officer Benette say about the messages I’ve been receiving?” he asked as a frown settled on his face.“He’s suspecting it to be from Jake and his twin. He said it could be they’re trying to scare you, but they have everything under control,” Jerome assured him, but it didn’t ease Jordan’s mind.Since their trip to Vegas a month ago, he had received five unsettling text messages from the same number—both freaky messages and death threats—and he had successfully hidden all
