Chapter 6: Gratitude

Walking out of the elevator, Davi did not head over to where the car was parked. It was not all the time that he could stroll around the city so freely. It was already a year since he saw the bustling area of this side of the country.

When he was working before, he could only watch as the teens his age walks in a group while laughing and talking about nonsensical topics. He never had a chance to experience that.

He never even had a friend to call his own.

The high-rise buildings were standing left and right but it does not stop the sun to shine so brightly on him. It must have been saying ‘congratulations!’ on the new life and job he got. A high school graduate but working for a top company was already something he could just dream of before.

Today, he was hired as a janitor with a two million clean salary. He was happy beyond compare.

Passing through a cake shop, he stopped on his foot and stared at the beautifully designed cake from small to largest. It was impeccable for him that his eyes start to sparkle.

The cake shop had a serene ambiance, the smell was not too sweet and not too heavy for the nose. “Welcome, Sir.”

A soft jingle was heard after the staff open the door with a full smile. “Celebration?” the staff asked as if he can read his mind. “You can choose your own toppings and can even lessen the sugar if you desire.”

It was hard to sell cakes but the staff made enough effort for Davi to nod his head.

When he graduated, he never had the time to celebrate. Today, he wanted to give himself a pat on the back and a little treat. He checks out the cake one by one before settling on the simple white coating cake with a grass design.

“Can you add ‘Congratulation on your new job!’ here?” He felt so much pride in those words. He indeed deserved congratulations.

“Also, can you pack this for me?” He pointed to another cake and instructed the words to write.

He sat on the corner table with the cake in front of him. It was a small cake that was enough for one person. “Congratulations, Davi. You made it in high school. Now you got a job. You’re so amazing.”

In the corner, he whispered those words and smiled at himself before blowing out the candle. “Here’s the other cake sir.” The staff came again with the well-packed cake in hand.

“Thank you.”

But the staff was hesitant to leave and seems to be wanting to ask for something, “Uhm… sir, are- are you…” stuttering, he does not know where to start.

“What is it?” Davi had his first bite of the cake and as expected it was just enough sweetness. “Just ask,” he added.

“Sir I… Please be our model!”

Fork fell and silence was heard. “Model?!”

The staff sat on the chair in front of Davi and with the glowing eyes of a businessman he explained, “Yes! Just now, when you were looking at the cakes you look so entrance which made me want to buy my own cake!”

With his exaggerated words and exaggerated action, Davi felt shy and anxious at the same time. He never really sees himself as a beauty. As an omega with a masculine build, it was uncommon that it became his inferiority.

“But… I- I’m not pretty. Also, I don’t know how m-models-“

“Sir, if you are not pretty then what am I? We can guide you on what to do!” he blinks his eyes twice as fast and flashed a pleading face, “Try it once then you can decide whether to continue or not. We will pay.”

One word caught Davi’s attention and his anxious face turned to curiosity, “pay?”

“Ah-huh. Two hundred fifty thousand per concept. We’re a known company and we give generous pay!”

Two hundred fifty thousand for one work seems too good to be true. He was usually paid ten thousand or fifteen thousand before. He does not want to let go and he does not want to enter the trap either.

“Am I going to work here?” he asked. If they will shoot in the cake shop then he will be comfortable but if not then he will reject the offer. For his plan to work, safety’s a priority!

Seeing hope, the staff enthusiastically answered, “Yes. We will shoot here to advertise the shop and the new cake design. What’s your name?”

“Davi.”

“I’m Reynolds. I am the manager of this branch.” He extended his hand but retract it after realizing that Davi’s an omega. “Sorry, is it okay to shake hands?”

Between alpha and omega, little skin ship should be avoided. To ensure safety, the two sub-gender that can awaken each other's inner fire must not touch each other as much as possible except if they were in a relationship.

“S-sure.”

“Yay! Then, when can you start?” Reynolds shook Davi’s hand and ask questions while doing so. Instantly, he let go when Davi wears a wry smile on his face.

Thinking of his initial plan, Davi decided to do it on the weekend. It would be safe to do the shooting with the sun out especially since he does not know him fully. Reynolds gladly gave his contact to Davi and left him to eat his cake in peace.

If things work out, he can quickly save ten million for the divorce fee. Everything will work out, Davi thought to himself.

At noon, he arrived back at the mansion with his cake in hand and handed it over to the butler, “Uncle Bert, please give this to Liam when he comes back.” It was the cake he chooses as a thank-you for Liam.

He was not ungrateful; he knew when to say thank you when needed.

Looking back before his rebirth, Liam was the one who bought him from the loansharks. If not for Liam, he might be a human toilet now or pregnant or a paid-whore. The alpha was scary but gratitude exempts no one.

Back in his room, he surfs about modeling work and how to do poses for food. He received a second chance in life so he wanted to do great in this second life. If the modeling turns out well then it could be one of his works in the future.

Two hundred fifty thousand will do just fine for his expenses and he can find other work to cover his wants. A simple life was better than a complicated one. After he divorced Niel, there will be no free food and lodging. He should save for his future as well aside from the divorce fee.

Immersed in his internet surfing, he had not noticed the knock on his door. “Davi.” When he heard the voice, his whole body trembled and the knock made his stomach tighten.

He was so surprised that he stopped to listen for a while making sure that he was hearing it right. “Are you sleeping already?” After the question, there was silence outside, and seconds later a fading footstep was heard.

He doesn’t know why but each time he heard Liam call his name there was a pang in his heart and sometimes he just wants to voluntarily submit to the alpha. This is bad news. Between pretending to sleep or facing Liam he chose the first one.

It will be scary if Liam enters his room! An alpha and an omega in one room? Many things could happen!

In the kitchen, Liam was facing an open box. His aura was calm, the cake that Davi gave him had a word written on it: “Thank you for helping me.”
