Chapter 8: Safe

The sudden stop in his sentence and creasing of his brows made Alexis thought that there might be another problem that arises. It has been a long day before the day even begins. Another problem means another late-night work.

“Is something wrong, President?”

Liam closed his phone, and continued on his walk as if nothing happened, as if he heard nothing but when they reached the door, he stopped and uttered, “Do new employees need to have welcome parties?”

Alexis made a blank look before answering, “President, it has been a culture.”

The door creaked and the huge office came into view. On the side was a sofa and a little coffee table. On the other side were cabinets full of trophies and certificates of awards given to the company but mostly to Liam as an outstanding entrepreneur, a rookie businessman, and many others.

“Then, why am I not invited to any of it?” The chair he was sitting on was leather, a sturdy one which he likes the most. The number of documents he needed to sign piled up again.

Last night, before he went home, he had signed half of it and now, it has been raised higher again.

Alexis stood in front of his table, handing him another folder of documents for priority. “My dearest President, have mercy. The employees will choke before they could even start to enjoy their night.”

It was an honest remark that came from his heart. He had heard many employees getting afraid of Liam’s aura. He was an alpha, a dominant one but the visible scar on his eyebrow made people shiver at the sight of it. Coupled with his cold demeanor, only those with a brave heart would want to stay in the same space as him.

“Okay.”

He started to sign the documents and left the one that Alexis gave on the side, “Is there an alpha in his colleagues?” he asked without raising his head.

It has been a long time since he worked for Liam as a secretary so he almost knew what the man was thinking, “The young master has no alpha in his colleagues.”

“Good.”

His first day started so well that Davi had more energy to work. Today, Mama Chu will help him familiarize himself with the work and the area he should work on. Each utility worker had two floors to take care of but amazingly, Davi only got one and it was the President’s floor.

“I checked and checked again, you really got one floor. Maybe because you are new?”

Mama Chu has been working in the company for five years now. She started in the lowest rank and work her way up until she was promoted to a team leader and in all those years, she does not remember having a newbie working straight on the President’s floor.

It even took her four years to finally step on that very floor!

“Anyway, you’ll have additional floors when you familiarize your work. Mama Chu is here to help you, kiddo.” One of Mama Chu’s characteristics was being chatty on top of being blunt. If she was with you, things will surely get lively.

But what feels more right was the motherly treatment that Davi got from her. An omega that stood for herself, he wanted to be one too.

Hearing what Mama Chu said, Davi thought that maybe Liam would put him on his floor to learn first and then transfer later to another floor. It could be said that Liam was avoiding such unforeseen trouble from him.

That’s reasonable enough especially if people find out that he lives in the President’s mansion and was married to the cousin of the said President. That would really be a trouble he wanted to avoid too.

Thinking about it, the mistress was working in the same company as well! So much trouble.

In a half-day duration, Davi had more or less known what he should do and how he should do it. The glass windows should be spotless and clear, and the corner of the hallway must be rid of dust, even a speck of it was not allowed.

All plants must be sprayed gently and ensure their greenness. Doors must be wiped clean and the President’s office must be cleaned an hour before he arrives.

No special scent must be used, the President wanted it in natural scent.

This was to avoid any sudden rut inside the company. Here, the sub-genders were mixed. The Noah company’s motto was Equality above all else and so discrimination was not allowed but it has to be a safe place for all genders to mix.

Before one could enter the company’s premises, the guard assigned to each sub-gender will have to check the employees' patch gland at a safe and comfortable distance. They also have to ensure that they have suppressants in their bags all the time.

One careless mistake could lead to dismissal.

“Phew! Such a big company to clean.” Davi was sitting in the utility room, resting after a half-day of cleaning. His sweat trickled down his forehead and a little of his scent was released.

“Mama Chu, have you ever thought of changing careers?” For him, he does not intend to stay in the company as a janitor all his life. After the divorce, he will go back to school and find a better job.

One that could provide for his needs and give him stability.

His future, he should start thinking about this while working on the divorce. He planned to check areas with cheaper rent after a month, then he will also think about what course he will take. Just the thought of it gave Davi excitement beyond compare.

Mama Chu smiled upon hearing his question. It has been asked of her over and over by different people but her answer will always be the same, “I will if I have the opportunity, kid.” She finished brushing her long wavy hair and tie it back in a bun before adding, “... but I will never change my workplace.”

There was a sincere smile in Mama Chu's eyes as she spoke those words. It was magnetic and full of loyalty.

“Why?”

It was an honest question. Do people stay in a company where the President works? Davi was confused and curious. The President was a scary man. He was a tall man with an overbearing aura. The scar on his eyebrow was evident that the alpha could be a bad person.

It was only by his effort to hide his fear that he could talk to Liam in the house. He was afraid that if he tease the alpha more then he will be locked up in the dungeon or worst be killed!

Niel was a bad and cunning alpha. The same blood flowed in their veins. So, was it wrong of him to think that Liam was the same? Maybe the alpha had an ulterior motive for helping him work in the company. However, he also decided that he will keep this thought to himself.

He once take his own life but now that he had been given a second life… death makes him shiver.

“... because I owe my life to the President. The least I could do was to serve him.”

Mama Chu owes his life to Liam. How could it be?

Liam.. was he really a good person?
