The engine purred like a predator beneath her hands.

Elaine leaned back against the soft leather interior of the luxury sports car, oversized sunglasses hiding the gleam in her eyes. For years, she had always driven the silver compact sedan recommended by her attendant’s. It was her symbol as a modest, responsible Luna.

Today, she didn’t want to be Luna. Or maybe, for the first time, she wanted to be one on her own terms.

Elaine stopped at the curb outside Harriet’s house and honked the horn twice. Harriet rushed out, and she immediately started laughing in disbelief and amazement.

“You’re driving this?”

Elaine smiled, her lips painted a rich berry red. “I’m still Luna. Why shouldn’t I?”

Harriet squealed in delight and jumped into the car. The engine roared as Elaine pulled away from the estate, the convertible top down so the wind caught in her dark waves. Her friend laughed from the passenger seat.

“You’ve changed.”

Elaine didn’t deny it. “I’m finally me.”

“It’s great, Elaine! I wis

Liam could hardly hide the grin tugging at his lips. Walking into the ballroom with Elaine on his arm—confident, composed, stunning—made him feel an unexpected thrill. He’d fight for her when she needed it. Even if she didn’t need it. Facing off against Lucas wasn’t enough to make him run either. Although Lucas was in the lead for Alpha President, Liam was the kind of wolf that fought for what he wanted regardless.Right now, that included Elaine.“I’m not interested in starting anything,” she said quietly, her tone firm but not cold. “I am grateful for what you did earlier. That’s all.”Liam paused, reading the guarded light in her eyes, then gave a warm, easy smile. “No worries. I’m happy to be your shield.”He didn’t press further. He walked beside her with the same casual elegance that always cloaked his more serious instincts. Behind them, Lucas’s stormy gaze followed every step.He was seething. Lucas was so involved in his own life and his own success that he never imagined he’

Kyle was the first to break the stunned silence.“She came with Liam?” His mouth didn’t close all the way in the shock, his eyes wide as dinner plates.Elaine walked alongside Liam, looking more radiant and refreshed than Lucas had ever seen her. For a moment, the thought that maybe she had been too tired and let down to shine that bright when she was with him. He didn’t know she could be so stunning.Any thoughts of sympathy were gone when he saw Liam smile at Elaine as she whispered something to him.Lucas’s jaw was clenched tight and his fists curled at his sides. His entire focus was locked on Elaine with her confident poise, her elegance, and her eyes that didn’t even flicker when they landed on him.It was as if she hadn’t even seen him. Or worse, she didn’t care to.She knew he would be here. Of course she did. This was his summit and his moment. He hadn’t seen her for three days, and this was the first time she had chosen to show her face. She hadn’t avoided him. She chose not

Lucas stood frozen, the quiet hum of the gala’s prelude fading into the background as he stared at the message again. For a long moment, he couldn’t breathe. Elaine had signed the divorce papers.Had she lost her mind? This wasn’t some petty rebellion. She had actually gone through with it.She chose the worst timing too. Lucas was at a critical point in his life, one where it mattered that his Luna, agent or not, was standing beside him. He was on the verge of securing his position as Alpha President, and then she goes and stirs the pot.His pulse hammered and fury threatened to rise, something else surfaced. He remembered her face and how calm and detached she was when she’d faced him for the last time. Then the image of her standing up to her family, defending him in the corridor, even while he still doubted her, tore through his mind like a blade. She had always supported him. She had countless early mornings, spent time polishing briefings, and quietly way dealt with delegates be

Liam watched Elaine’s car disappear into the early morning haze, his fingers tapping rhythmically against his folded arms.Something about her stayed with him. He’d enjoyed the way she’d stood tall against her brother’s venom, unflinching. The smooth grace with which she dismissed her family’s abuse had been worthy of a Luna. He even remembered that radiant red dress from the Alpha meeting. Her calm presence had cut through the noise like a blade. She was strong, poised, and devastating. He hadn’t expected her to be that kind of woman.“She’s not our mate,” came the calm, half-hearted response from his wolf in his mind. Liam couldn’t help but chuckle. He’d never been the type to care about things like that. He’d always done what he wanted, when he wanted. That included the women he wanted to be with.Right now, he thought of no woman but Elaine. She flooded his minds and his senses, and he craved to know more about her. He’d never thought of her like this before. She was like a new wo

Late morning light poured through the tall windows of the presidential suite, warm and golden as it danced across silk sheets.Elaine stirred, her limbs pleasantly rested and her head clear for the first time in weeks. She stretched slowly beneath the sheets, allowing herself the rare luxury of not jumping up to prepare someone else’s schedule.Today, no one needed her. It felt good, like a freedom that was well-earned. To be honest, she was worried that she’d feel lost without anyone to take care of. After all, she was raised to take care of her family and to support her Alpha. All she felt now without the Wind Wolf Pack was a massive weight off her shoulders. She didn’t have to worry about anyone else unless she wanted to.Elaine rose from bed, stretching a little bit. She slipped into a tailored powder blue dress that hugged her waist, and tied her newly cropped hair into a loose bow with a ribbon. She looked polished but relaxed, feminine but strong. She dressed like how she wante

The lingering scent of Elaine’s perfume was already fading from the air, replaced by the sterile neutrality of absence.Lucas stormed out of the room, calling out sharply. “Where did she go?”The butler flinched at his tone, wringing his hands nervously. “I’m not sure, Alpha. Luna didn’t say. She packed quietly and left before sundown yesterday.”Lucas’s jaw ticked. “Why didn’t anyone stop her?”“She seemed resolute, sir. I assumed she would return later in the evening…” His voice trailed off.Lucas’s eyes swept the room again, landing on his coat, still rumpled and hanging where he’d left it after the summit. No one had ironed it. His suit trousers were still folded awkwardly over the edge of the chair. The evening tea was missing entirely. These were all part of Elaine’s usual routine. Before, they’d all been done without Lucas ever having to ask. In fact, he hardly even noticed. So much got done around the house and in his life that he had never paid much attention to.Now that Ela
