Three months into our renewed relationship, I finally agreed to visit Shadowpine. Not as a servant or a rejected mate, but as a visiting Alpha. As Kaden’s equal.

The difference was striking from the moment we crossed the border. Warriors saluted me. Showed respect. No one looked through me like I was invisible.

“This feels surreal,” I told Kaden as we drove through familiar territory. “Everything looks the same but feels completely different.”

“Because you’re different. And because I’ve made it clear that disrespecting you means disrespecting me.” He glanced at me. “Are you okay? We can leave anytime if this is too much.”

“I’m okay. Nervous, but okay.”

The pack house looked exactly as I remembered. Grand. Imposing. Full of memories both sweet and painful.

Pack members gathered in the main hall to greet us. Faces I recognised. Some had been kind when I was a servant. Others had been cruel.

An omega I remembered, one who’d enjoyed mocking me in the kitchens, approached cautiously. “Alpha Aria. I owe you an apology. I treated you terribly when you lived here. I was wrong. I’m sorry.”

Others followed. One by one, wolves who’d made my life difficult apologised. Some seemed genuine. Others are just going through motions. But it was something.

“I appreciate your apologies,” I said when they’d all spoken. “What’s past is past. What matters is how we all move forward.”

Kaden showed me the changes he’d implemented. A new council where omegas could voice concerns. Fair food distribution. Protection policies for vulnerable pack members. Training opportunities regardless of rank.

“You’ve done incredible work here,” I said honestly. “This is exactly the kind of system my parents wanted.”

“It’s not perfect yet. Old habits die hard. But we’re trying.” He led me to his office. “There’s something else I want to show you.”

Inside, he pulled out architectural drawings. Plans for a memorial garden.

“I want to build this on the pack grounds. To honour your parents and their vision. A place for wolves to remember that leadership should be about service, not domination.” He watched my reaction nervously. “What do you think?”

I couldn’t speak for a moment. Just stared at the beautiful designs. A garden with silver moon flowers. Benches for reflection. A plaque describing my parents’ dreams.

“It’s perfect,” I finally managed. “They would have loved this.”

“We can break ground next month if you approve. I’d like you to be there. To help plant the first tree.”

“Yes. Absolutely yes.” I hugged him tight. “Thank you for this. For honouring them. For trying to fulfil their vision.”

That evening, Kaden hosted a formal dinner. Pack leaders, visiting Alphas, and Council members all attended. It was political but also personal. A way to show that Shadowpine and Crescent Ridge were building an alliance.

During dinner, Alpha Catherine approached. “I’m impressed with the changes here. Kaden has become a fine Alpha. Credit to both of you for the reconciliation.”

“It wasn’t easy,” I admitted.

“The best things rarely are.” She smiled knowingly. “But you two are good together. Balance each other. That’s rare and valuable.”

Later, alone in Kaden’s quarters, we talked about the future. About where we were heading.

“I know we’re taking things slow,” Kaden began. “But I need to know. Do you see a future for us? Long term?”

“I do. But I’m still scared. Scared of getting hurt again. Scared of losing myself in us as I did before.”

“You won’t. You’re too strong now. Too self-aware.” He took my hands. “And I’d never ask you to be smaller. I love you for who you are. Alpha Aria of Crescent Ridge. Powerful. Fierce. Incredible.”

“What about the bond? The mate bond?” I’d been avoiding this conversation. “It’s still damaged. Eventually, we need to decide about that.”

“What do you want?” He searched my face. “Truly?”

“I want to heal it. But I’m scared. What if healing the bond traps us? Makes it impossible to leave if things go wrong?”

“The bond doesn’t trap anyone. It connects. Enhances. But you’d still be you. Still have free will. Still able to walk away if I ever gave you reason to.” Kaden moved closer. “But I won’t. Give you a reason, I mean. I’ve learned my lesson. Lost you once. I won’t make that mistake again.”

I thought about it. The bond had been beautiful once. Before the rejection. The way it lets us feel each other’s emotions. Share strength. Be truly connected.

“How do we heal it?” I asked quietly.

“It’s a ritual. We’d need to go before the Moon Goddess. Reaffirm our commitment. Accept each other fully.” He paused. “And we’d need to complete the mate bond. Physically.”

Heat flooded through me. We’d been intimate before, during our secret relationship. But never as a completed mate bond. That was permanent. Binding in ways regular intimacy wasn’t.

“I’m not ready for that yet. The physical completion part.”

“That’s fine. We can wait as long as you need.” He kissed my forehead. “I’m just happy you’re considering it. That you trust me enough to even think about healing the bond.”

We spent the night talking. Making plans. Dreaming about possible futures. It was easy. Comfortable. The way it should have been all along.

The next morning, Emma from Shadowpine found me. The young omega who’d thanked me at the pack meeting months ago.

“Alpha Aria? Can I talk to you?”

“Of course. What’s on your mind?”

“I’ve been training. Learning to fight. Standing up for myself, as you said.” Her eyes shone with pride. “And I challenged for the Beta position. I won.”

“Emma, that’s incredible!” I hugged her. “You’re Beta now?”

“Junior Beta. Under the main Beta. But yes. A real position with authority.” She looked at me seriously. “I couldn’t have done it without your example. Seeing you go from omega to Alpha showed me it was possible.”

“You did this yourself. Your own courage. Your own strength.” I squeezed her shoulders. “I’m so proud of you.”

More young wolves approached throughout the day. Sharing stories of how they’d been inspired. How they’d stood up for themselves. How Shadowpine was changing because someone had shown them that change was possible.

“You did this,” Kaden said, watching the interactions. “Inspired a whole generation to believe they could be more.”

“We did this. You created the environment where they could grow.” I looked at him. “This is what my parents wanted. Not just rule changes, but a cultural shift. Wolves believing in their own worth.”

That evening, we held a bonfire. Pack members gathered. Shared stories. Sang songs. It was communal. Joyful. The kind of pack gathering that built real bonds instead of just enforcing hierarchy.

I sat with Kaden, watching the fire. Feeling contentment I hadn’t experienced in so long.

“I could get used to this,” I admitted.

“What? Bonfires?”

“Being happy. Feeling at peace. Not constantly fighting or surviving.” I leaned against him. “It’s nice.”

“You deserve nice. You’ve earned it.” He wrapped an arm around me. “Aria, there’s something I’ve been wanting to ask.”

“What?”

“Move in with me. Not permanently. Just try it. Spend a few weeks here. See how it feels. Maya and Dax can handle Crescent Ridge. Let yourself rest. Be cared for. Stop carrying everything alone.”

The offer was tempting. Terrifying but tempting.

“I don’t know. My pack needs me.”

“Your pack is stable. Thriving. They’ll be fine for a few weeks.” He turned me to face him. “And you need a break. You’ve been running yourself ragged for months. Investigating. Leading. Fighting. When was the last time you just existed? Without pressure or responsibility?”

He was right. I was exhausted. Constantly moving. Never resting. Afraid that if I stopped, everything would fall apart.

“Okay. Two weeks. I’ll stay two weeks and we’ll see how it goes.”

“Really?” His face lit up.

“Really. But I’m keeping my phone. Checking in daily. If Crescent Ridge needs me, I go immediately.”

“Deal. Absolutely deal.” He kissed me, joy radiating through him.

The next few weeks were a revelation. Living with Kaden. Waking up beside him. Sharing meals and conversations and quiet moments. It was domestic. Normal. Everything we’d never had before.

We worked together sometimes. Combining the pack business between Shadowpine and Crescent Ridge. Creating joint training programs. Sharing resources. Building the kind of alliance my parents had envisioned between territories.

And slowly, carefully, the mate bond began to heal. Not through ritual or magic. Just through time. Trust. Proximity. The damaged connection between us strengthened as we strengthened as a couple.

One morning, I woke to find Kaden watching me. “What?” I asked, self-conscious.

“I can feel you through the bond again. Just a little. Your contentment. Your peace.” His voice was wonder-filled. “I’d forgotten how beautiful that feeling is.”

I focused on the bond. And yes, there it was. A thread connecting us. Still fragile but present. I could sense his love. His devotion. His absolute commitment.

“It’s healing,” I breathed.

“Because we’re healing. Together.” He pulled me close. “I love you, Aria. This version. Every version. Always.”

“I love you too. And I think I’m finally ready.”

“Ready for what?”

“To complete the bond. To be your mate. Fully. Permanently.” I kissed him. “If you still want me.”

“If I still want you? Aria, I’ve wanted nothing else since the moment I rejected you and realised I’d made the worst mistake of my life.” He kissed me back, deep and passionate. “Are you sure? Sure?”

“I’m sure. You’ve proven yourself. Over and over. You’ve changed. Grown. Become the man I always believed you could be.” I touched his face. “And I’ve changed too. Become strong enough to trust again. To risk my heart.”

“I’ll spend every day earning that trust. Protecting that heart. Loving all of you.”

That night, under the full moon, we performed the ritual. Simple. Private. Just us and Elder Thorne as witnesses.

We spoke the ancient words. Reaffirmed our commitment. Accepted each other as mates before the Moon Goddess.

And when we completed the bond physically, afterwards, the connection between us blazed to life. Full. Strong. Unbreakable.

I could feel everything. His love. His joy. His absolute certainty that this was right. And he could feel mine. The complete trust I finally had in him. In us.

“How does it feel?” he whispered.

“Perfect. Like coming home.”

“You are home. You’ve always been home.” He held me close. “Thank you for giving me a second chance. For believing I could change. For loving me despite everything.”

“Thank you for becoming worthy of that love. For doing the hard work. For never giving up.”

We fell asleep tangled together. The mate bond humming between us. Strong and true and right.

When I woke, Kaden was already up. Making breakfast. Singing badly. Looking happier than I’d ever seen him.

“Morning, mate,” he said with a huge grin.

“Morning.” The word mate felt different now. Not a dream or a secret. But reality. My reality.

“How are you feeling? Any regrets?”

“None. You?”

“Only that it took us so long to get here.” He handed me coffee. “But maybe we needed the time. The growth. The pain. To appreciate this.”

“Maybe.” I sipped the coffee. “What now?”

“Now? We live. We lead our packs. We honour your parents’ vision. We build something beautiful together.” He sat beside me. “And we do it as equals. As partners. As mates.”

“I like that plan.”

“Good. Because you’re stuck with me now. Forever.”

“Forever sounds perfect.”

And for the first time in my life, I truly believed it would be.

We returned to Crescent Ridge exhausted but victorious. The pack greeted us with howls of celebration. Word had spread about Martin’s capture. About the evidence we’d gathered. About justice served. But I didn’t feel victorious. I felt hollow. Drained. Like I’d given everything and had nothing left.“You need rest,” Sarah said, taking one look at me. “Real rest. Not just a night’s sleep.”“I need to review the pack business. Check reports. Make sure everything ran smoothly while I was gone.”“Everything ran perfectly. Ghost and I handled it.” She physically steered me toward my quarters. “You’re taking three days off. Minimum. No arguments.”I was too tired to argue. For three days, I did nothing. Slept. Ate. Sat in the sun. Let my body and mind heal from months of constant stress.Kaden stayed with me. Not hovering. Just present. Reading while I napped. Bringing me food. Existing quietly beside me.On the fourth day, I finally felt like myself again. Strong. Clear-headed. Ready to re

  • After the Rejection I Became His Luna   Chapter 30: The Trial Month

The month with Ghost’s rogue pack was enlightening and challenging. They camped in the northern meadow as agreed, setting up temporary shelters that somehow looked both desperate and hopeful.I visited daily, observing. Assessing. Looking for red flags.Ghost proved to be an excellent leader. He kept his wolves disciplined. Organized. They worked hard on the tasks we assigned. Clearing brush. Repairing fences. Helping with harvest. Never complaining. Never causing trouble. But I noticed other things too. The way some flinched when I approached too quickly. The scars that spoke of serious abuse. The hollow looks in younger wolves’ eyes.“They’ve been through hell,” Maya observed during one visit. “Most of them, anyway. A few might be lying about their backgrounds, but the majority? They’re genuine refugees.”I pulled Ghost aside one evening. “Tell me the truth. All of it. Where did these wolves really come from?”He was quiet for a moment, weighing whether to trust me. Finally, he spok

  • After the Rejection I Became His Luna   Chapter 29: The Formal Alliance

The alliance ceremony was held on neutral ground. A wide clearing between our territories where ancient pack treaties had been signed for generations. Hundreds of wolves attended. Members from both packs. Visiting Alphas. Council representatives. Even humans who worked closely with pack territories.I stood at one end of the clearing in formal silver robes that matched my wolf form. Kaden stood at the other end in deep black. We’d spent weeks planning this ceremony. Making sure every detail honoured both traditions and the new path we were forging.Elder Marcus of the Council stepped forward to officiate. “We gather today to witness something unprecedented. Two Alphas. Two packs. Choosing partnership over dominance. Cooperation over conquest.”His voice carried across the silent crowd. “Alpha Aria Silvermoon of Crescent Ridge. Alpha Kaden Nightshade of Shadowpine. Step forward.”We walked toward the centre. Meeting in the middle. Equals.“State your intentions,” Elder Marcus commanded

Life settled into a beautiful rhythm over the next few months. I split time between Crescent Ridge and Shadowpine. Both packs adapted to their Alpha having a mate in another territory. It wasn’t traditional, but it worked.Maya took on more leadership in my absence. She was brilliant at it. Dax handled security flawlessly. My pack thrived.Kaden and I were planning something bigger. A formal alliance between our territories. Not a merger, but a partnership. Equal standing. Shared resources. Joint defense. It would be the first agreement of its kind. Two Alphas working together without one submitting to the other.“The Council loves the idea,” Elder Thorne told us during a meeting. “It’s exactly the kind of progressive cooperation your parents advocated for, Aria. If this works, other packs might follow.”“That’s a lot of pressure,” I admitted.“You’ve handled worse.” He smiled. “Besides, you two make an excellent team. Complementary strengths. Mutual respect. That’s rare between Alpha

The Council moved quickly. Within a week, Garrett was formally charged with attempted murder, abuse of pack members, and the death of the previous investigator. The evidence was overwhelming. The recordings, witness testimony, and years of documented cruelty. He was sentenced to life imprisonment. His pack was placed under temporary Council oversight while they searched for new leadership.Thomas was offered the Alpha position. He declined.“I’m not ready. Maybe someday, but not now.” He looked at me with gratitude. “But I want to help choose who leads us. Make sure it’s someone good. Someone fair.”The Council agreed. For the first time, pack members would have a voice in selecting their Alpha. It was a small step toward the kind of system my parents had envisioned.During the weeks of hearings and transitions, Kaden stayed. Not pushing. Not demanding anything. Just present. Helping where he could. Proving through actions that he meant what he’d said. One evening, after a particularl
