I stopped struggling when Easton was pushed. His body was repulsed against the tree. I didn’t know what to feel.

I didn’t know why but I was happy that he appeared for his sister. Luke was wrong. Adolphus loved his sister too much to let her rot under the arms of a dumb werewolf.

Adolphus threw me a glare. It was enough to make me understand he loathed me. Maybe because I was human. There was no reason for him to hate him but I had a thousand reasons.

I could imagine him waiting for my death, in his little cell, waiting for Nialliv to open his cell and send him into the wild.

I can still imagine him in another position; taking his sister and leaving me back to find a way out myself.

Still, I had one rule: I’d be my own superhero. No one would humiliate me by offering me a fake hand.

But the more I stared into his glaring eyes, my earlier thoughts and hatred faded slowly, shrinking to the back of my mind as my heartbeat drummed in my ears and throat.
