[ Adonis ]
“Adonis, if you give me your permission, we can arrange a charity gala. I know it’s a new concept and never happened in werewolf world but I see it as a way to get into highlight. Everyone will only talk about us. We’ll receive donations on the name of charity.” Seline suggested me and my head snapped in her direction.
“This is the waste of money and I am not a thug who will use the money we’ll receive in donation for good work and this is not a right time to throw parties.” I flatly refused her idea and her face fell.
“I know, the finances are tight nowadays. You can blame Gemma for this. She might have stolen the pack’s money and sent it to her secret lover. I mean we’re one of the biggest packs. We have many resources of income.” Seline accused Gemma.
My wolf, Rykar growled in my head. Unlike me, he can’t hear a word against his mate.
“Gemma wasn’t a thief. I have all her financial records. She never stole a single penny or I would have known.” I clarified.
“You still have a soft corner for her even when she backstabbed you?” She scoffed.
“It’s my personal matter, Seline. She received her punishment for her sins. Let’s not mention her ever again.” I said in a flat tone.
“Exactly, this is my point. People are still discussing about her. Not only our pack but also the other packs who see her as a hero and doesn’t believe that she was the one to betray you. We need to distract their attention. Let’s give them an unforgettable party. We’ll meet other packs and form new alliance.” She said with sparkling eyes.
I thought about her idea. Although, it might prove expensive for us but I can also find out about Alpha Axel’s plans and also take other packs in confidence. It will be a chance to find out if Gemma is hiding somewhere or she’s….
I shook my head to get rid of the negative thoughts.
“The upcoming Sunday is your birthday, Adonis. It will be the perfect occasion to call for everyone.” She added.
I knew she’s very good with such social events. She had been in hospitality business and have a reputation in event organizing industries.
“Alright, you can arrange a gala but make sure we don’t exceed the budget limit and no need of extravagance or it might backfire on us.” I gave her my approval with heavy heart because for last three years, Gemma was the one to arrange for my birthday party and other events in the pack.
“Great! I will send the invitation cards to all the packs who can be our possible allies and also decide for the theme.” She gleamed with excitement.
“Send invitation to Yellow Mist Pack as well. I want Apha Axel to come here and see how his enemy is growing.” I told her and a frown itched on her face.
“You want to invite your biggest enemy in the celebration of our happiness, Adonis, why?” She asked me.
“I believe in keeping my enemies close to me than my friends.” I replied with a smirk.
“He will probably reject our invitation. Come on, our bloody history isn’t hidden from anyone. We have lost so much in that battle including your father. He will mock at us.” She said and every single part of it was true.
“I want him to see that we’re still thriving despite their wicked intentions to destroy us. It will be a slap on his face because he’s the bastard who is the reason of my father’s death. Gamma saved him and left my father to die in the hands of those killers.” I said with so much bitterness.
“I am sorry, I can feel your pain. Don’t worry, I will take care of everything.” She said softly and left.
Never for once I opened her gifts that she picked for me with so much efforts. They are still lying in a corner of my closet, wrapped and dusted. She used to pay attention on minor details and made sure that I’d not be displeased nor my guests.
I never appreciated Gemma for her efforts. She used to do everything with enthusiasm, ignored people mocking her and often taunting her for being a trophy mate whom I only needed out of obligation but she focused on my happiness. She used to take care of my every single need without complaining. I can’t find my pair of socks. She used to arrange everything for me.
I feel like I was totally depended on her and she never complained even when I used to taunt her for being clingy, annoying and a weak woman who needs a man by her side. In fact, she never needed me. She was a trained warrior, a perfect wife, a Luna trained in her duties.
My coldness drifted her apart and forced her to follow a different path. She decided to find love and comfort in another man’s arms.
Bitterness and jealousy filled me. She never for once accepted her sins or tried to beg for forgiveness. She remained quiet and accepted my judgement. She never for once looked at me during the trial. I wanted to deny everything but when her own mother confirmed her sins, it broke something within me.
Without realizing, I had found comfort in my loveless bond. Gemma had marked an invisible presence in my life. She used to be around me without giving me a chance to express my hatred for her. Every single day, she wished me 'good morning' and wished me 'good night' after after turn my back to her coldly.
A secret changed everything forever. I wish I could find her and ask her why she had done this.
A part of me knew that she was alive because my wolf is still anxious and I didn’t feel my mate bond dying or her mark disappearing.
Perhaps, she is still alive. All I need is to find her.
[ Gemma ]I tried to open my eyes and when my vision cleared, I saw white ceiling and smell of medicines invaded my senses. As I tried to move, I felt numbness and mild pain in my abdomen. I remembered passing out after unbearable labour pain and struggle to deliver my baby which went on throughout the night hours and I didn’t remember anything once he was out of me.I blinked my eyes several times to adjust my vision. My stomach was flat but my baby wasn’t around which filled me with panic and fear.I vigorously pressed the bell to call someone and in the next moment, nurses rushed inside.“Luna, please calm down or you’ll hurt yourself. You are weak after blood loss during your child’s birth.” They tried to keep me down on the bed as I tried to pull the iv strap.“Where is my baby? What have you done to him?” I shouted because I couldn’t trust Giovanni and his pack.“He is safe. He is in NICU since he was born prematurely but he is safe there’s nothing to worry about.” They told me
[ Gemma ]“That’s absurd, you know. My wolf had recognized him on my eighteenth birthday. Adonis was my fated mate. The love I felt for him wasn’t a deception, Alpha.” I said not believing a word he said.“Then ask yourself why you have no pain or regret after rejecting him. Do not lie to yourself, Gemma. You feel free after breaking your ties with him like you wanted to do it for a very long time. He never really loved you. Your relationship was just a deception, a lie both you and Adonis living.” He said. His words hit me like someone threw stones at me.“Someone wanted to use you, amore. For years, you were just a useful asset for the Blue Moon Pack. Everyone in the north knows that Adonis couldn’t have built it without you.” He added.I closed my eyes and let his words sink in.“In a week, I’ll give birth to his child. I will be a mother to another man’s child and there’s no way I will let you take my baby from me.” I gave him a blank look.“No one is going to take your baby from
[ Gemma ]“Mate!”I felt my body was either frozen or I started hallucinating impossible things. His icy-blue eyes transformed in light golden shade, it was his wolf, a powerful black wolf whom I could see in his eyes and feel a strong pull. All the noises died down for me and time seemed to stop when he brought my hand to his lips.He kissed my knuckle and the same warm sensation again coursed through my body.“Mate!”Sadie’s voice came from inside again, this time clearer and more confident.“Mate!”His deep but more affectionate voice reached into my ears. It wasn’t like before. His tone was different, it was like a magnate pulling me towards him. My heart was racing on a dangerous pace and I was almost on the verge of passing out.“You got your answer now, my sweet amore.” He said and I was finally snapped out of my shocked state.Holy shit! How was it even possible?“No, this is a trap! It can’t be true.” I shook my head in denial not caring that I might upset the cruelest alpha
[ Gemma ]I looked at my reflection in the mirror. The woman staring back at me, wasn’t me because her eyes were dead. She was just in flesh without a soul even though they had done a great job by dressing me in a silver shimmering gown and glamourous makeup.“You are the prettiest woman I have ever seen, regina. I am sure the alpha won’t be able to take his eyes off you and the pack members, they’ll go crazy when they meet their queen for the first time.” Carlotta said giving me a thorough scan from tip to toe.I cringed at her first line.“Don’t make me feel like I am a whore, Carlotta. If your alpha brought me here to adore my beauty then tell him to get done with this.” I said bitterly. Her smile dropped and other maids started whispering among themselves since they didn’t speak English much.“Miss Carlotta, Mr. Leonardo is here to take regina to the party venue.” A guard said knocking on the door which was already opened.“Leonardo? I won’t go with him.” I snorted because he was
[ Gemma ]“Sadie, please talk to me and tell me that you are here with me. I need you the most now.” I tried talking to Sadie who had abandoned me when I needed her to give me courage and strength to fight the demons around me.But no response came from her. I didn’t know how was she and how she was coping up with the rejection. Rejection is the last thing any wolf wants and when it happens, it breaks the wolves more than their human halves.“Sadie, I hope you are fine, my girl. We are on our own now, this is our fight and we need to go through it together. We have to keep our baby safe.” I said to her and hoped she was listening to me.I laid on the bed, trying to rest which my body needed but my unstable mind and restless heart kept me tossing in the bed. I didn’t touch the food that a maid brought for me.It was a jail for me as Leonardo mentioned. They hadn’t hurt me yet but it didn’t mean I could trust them.Giovanni Orsini confused me. His last words kept resonating in my ears.
[ Gemma ]“Brother, I brought the regina safely to you.”Giovanni said to the man. I had yet to see his face. The man was standing behind me. I could feel his energy. He was intimidating because everyone had their head lowered.“You never disappoint me, Leonardo.” The man said.I was more confused than being scared. His deep footsteps came closer. I dared to look at Giovanni whom the man called as ‘Leonardo’. He had a proud look on his face.“Yes, you brought the regina here. You have proved your capabilities, Leo. We’ll celebrate your victory and my regina’s homecoming tonight. The Death Shadow wolves deserve an unforgettable night.” The man said.I saw his shiny black shoes coming closer and my heartbeats raced.I gulped hard. Who was this man?“Bentornato a casa, tesoro, Gemma.” The man said my name and something in Italian. My body was cold with fear.“You don’t need to be scared of us, Regina.” He said, this time in English.I squeezed my eyes tightly.“Gemma, look up. I am your
