Valerie:

I glared at the Alpha as he walked out of my office, allowing me to breathe for the first time since he dared show up in the first place.

The way that his eyes met mine and the way that he spoke as if he owned the world made me want to choke him.

I pinched the bridge of my nose before looking at my cup of jasmine tea. I rolled my eyes at it before pouring the drink in the sink, no longer in the mood to drink anything from it.

Tears rolled down my cheeks, and I couldn’t help but find my chest aching as I walked toward the cages where the animals were looking at me with fear in their eyes.

I sat in front of them for a second, my chest burning with more feelings than I could describe before the black dog that I helped looked up at me. He whimpered, and I smiled before opening the cage for him. I didn’t even know who his owner was or how he ended up in this state, but I knew that he would be grateful for the small deed that I did for him. Helping him was not something that m
