LOGINArthur’s POV
She is definitely a human, she smells nothing like a wolf. My wolf now is unsettled, growling at me. “I can’t feel her wolf.” “That’s because she’s human, dumbshit.” I growl back at my wolf. She’s human, but I’m still drawn to her, she’s my mate. Why in heaven will I be mated to a human? An alpha mated to a human, is this a Joke? “Why the fuck are you staring at me like that?” she blink. She’s so naive, she doesn’t know who I am or what I am. I bet she doesn’t have a clue that she’s in the midst of werewolves. "Nothing," I take a step away from her. "I guess I thought you were someone else." She goes for the door again, but my hand brush again her naked arm, and it's like an electric current zaps through me. I wasn't imagining anything, there is indeed a connection between us. My wolf stirs, confirming what I have feared, even though she is merely human. “MINE!” My wolf said it loud in my head that I became so scared that she may have heard it. I’m so sure that she doesn’t know about my kind, but seeing that she’s my mate, I’ll keep a close eye on her. “What the hell is going on here?” The principal opens the door and sees Justin and I in the room. She’s looking at us suspiciously, but she can’t rant because she’s afraid of what I would do. “Nothing to see here, principal. I am leaving already," I brush my hand against my eyebrow. I leave Justin and the principal, dumbfounded by my statement, dash out to the library. I go to the library, reading a random book, I didn’t even check what book it was. I’m just trying to distract my head from my mate who is human. Then my peace of mind is interrupted. I can smell Ainsley from a thousand mile away. It's my fault for complimenting the perfume she wore over two years ago. Now, she doesn't leave the house without dousing herself all over with it. “Babe, you’re here, I have been looking for you," she brightly smiles at me as she sits down. “I’m studying.” I say without giving her a glance. “You really don’t have to be going through all this stress for good grades, you can get it with the snap of your fingers, you know.” she says. This isn’t the first time Ainsley has said this to me, I just give her the same response every time. “I don’t need favours from my subordinates.” I growl. “Well, that’s why I love you. You will make a good alpha one day and I’ll be by your side to help you," her hand moves across the table, and her fingers lightly touches mine. Ainsley chuckles at what she said. Even though she found what she said ridiculous, it’s her way of giving me hints to make her my mate and Luna of my pack. My head drafts back to Justin, my human mate. What do I do with her? How do I get close to her? I hear that without a mate, an alpha would be weakened by the day. My mate is a human, how am I mated to a human? “Babe, you didn’t answer my question.” “What, Ainsley?" I ask impatiently. Can't she just materialize into the air or something? She doesn’t like me calling her by her name, she said it sounds like her father when it’s coming from me. “Is the new girl giving you a hard time? I heard Mrs Smith said you should guide her. You don’t want that right?” “Why do you think she’s giving me a hard time?” “Well, I heard that you were staring at her when she got to your class, I mean is she giving you a foul vibe? Does she make your wolf unsettled?” she twirls her hair around her finger, pouting her lips the way she does when she is upset. I chuckle at her fake concerns, even my wolf gets really unsettled when she’s around us. “No Ainsley, I’m okay," I shut the book, a sly smile on my face. "But, I'm curious, if Justin was actually bothering me, what will you do about it?" I push the book to the side, leaning to look her into her eyes even more. "Giving that I'm the strongest alpha in this surroundings, and you are a juvenile wolf that hasn't mastered even shifting?" Ainsley face grows red like a tomato. Of course she caught every insult I threw her way. This would have been her cue to leave, let me be, but no, Ainsley can't be gotten rid of that easily. "I'll kill her.". She blurts. "Excuse me?" "If she is bothering you, Arthur, I won't hesitate to kill her," her feminine hands molds into fists on the table. "I can do it with just a knife, and I will bury her in the back of school. No one will find her. Ainsley makes the most horrific threats, that’s why most of the girls in school don’t dare cross her part. It's so ridiculous that I burst into laughter so loud that people turn to look at us. “That will be about the most stupid thing I have heard you say, Ainsley. Go to your class, and let me worry about who is bothering me and who isn't," I stand up and walk away from her. Is that a sniffle I hear as I go. ******* After school, I throw my bag over my shoulder and go straight for my car, to avoid Ainsley and to go home and rest. On my drive home, Kylian calls me, snorts at the call but I can’t ignore it, he will keep calling till I answer it. “Hey whatsup, Kylian.” “Hey Arthur, trust you’re doing okay?” “Yeah I’m good.” “And how’s school?” “School is school, you know, teaching, reading, sports, stuff like that. Nothing new.” “That’s very good, I hope you’re concentrating very well on your studies...” This is the point that I just zoom out because it’s the same pet talk always. People are looking up to you, keep your grades up, be a good kid. I have never brought a bad grade home, I don’t know why he thinks I’ll do that in my final grade in school. I pull up in my house’s parking space, and Kylian is still talking. So fucking boring. “Yeah, I hear you bro. I gotta go, just got home. I need a lot of rest, talk to you later. Bye.” I end the call not waiting for him to do that. Driving my truck through the woods always puts me in a bad mood, but knowing I get to my bed in a few minutes makes it all somehow worth it. As I cease the car next to my house, I notice a car parked next to my parking space. It's a car that I don't see very often, but I can recognize anywhere. “Arthur," I turn to see my step-father, Adrian, and my mother, Tori. The two people I have been dreading to see again. Whenever Tori and Adrian shows up, something has probably gone terribly wrong.Chapter 97 Arthur’s POVI should have known that if anyone would spread the news about my father, it wouldn’t be the patrol team. It would have to be Mrs Mateo. Because when it comes to her hearing and talking about what doesn't concern her, she’s number one in that. She walks up to us, where we are standing. “There you are,” she says. “Not now.” Ainsley tries to push her away from us, but I hold her arm to stop her. “What do you want? Mrs Mateo.” I ask her. She coughs, clearing her throat. “I think the pack deserves better than secrets.”I put my hands in my pockets and looked at her properly. “You had no right.”Mrs. Mateo lifts her chin. “I had every right. My daughter has been living among you people. If there is a stranger with unknown ties walking these grounds, the rest of us should not be left blind.”Ainsley steps forward. “Mother, stop.”“No, I won’t stop. First the violence, then the funerals, then this? A man appears, disappears, and the Alpha’s son expects silence?
Chapter 96Arthur’s POV I made the decision before dawn.I can’t even sleep, I just stood at the window of the upper corridor for hours, replaying every ordinary expression on my father’s face. Every human gesture, every moment that proves how completely the man has been cut away from what he was meant to be. By the time the sky begins to pale, I have already chosen to send him back, away from my pack and everyone I love. Kylian and Oliver were waiting in the war room when I entered. “You’ve decided something,” Kylian says.I rolled my eyes at him and closed the door behind me. “He’s leaving.”“I knew it.” Kylian snaps at me, then looks out the window. Oliver’s eyes narrowed. “Your father?”“Yes. He’s leaving the pack today. To the life he remembers. The human one.”Kylian furrows his brow at me. “No.”I snap my head at Kylian, piercing him with my furious gaze without flinching. “This is not a discussion.”“Like hell it isn’t,” Kylian says, stepping away from the window. “You
Chapter 95 Arthur’s POVI know I erased his memory, all of it. But why is he so…“This is creepy, man,” Oliver says. “Tell me something I don’t know,” I answered, sarcastically. I don’t see him as my father or someone I’ve known before, he’s a stranger to me now. “You must be the one in charge, right?” He points at me, asking me. “I’ve done nothing wrong, I was just hiking. I was just passing by when your people, I suppose, lunged at me and accused me of intruding.”This is disturbing. First, he’s behaving so innocently and weirdly. Secondly, he’s hiking? Really. “He’s just putting on an act,” Oliver says through the mindlink. “Are you saying I didn’t erase all of his memories?” I ask him. “Don’t put words in my mouth, Arthur. You are as shocked as I am. Don’t you think maybe you might have left a tiny bit of his memory?” I growl at Oliver. This isn’t the time to make jokes. What am I supposed to do with him? Like this? “Is something wrong? Might I have done something wron
Chapter 94 Arthur’s POV“Don’t let him out of your sight.” I groan, commanding Oliver. “Yes, Alpha.” He answered me. Why does it have to be like this? I had just made peace with my loss and grief. Can’t I be merry for peace of mind for more than a second? For fuck sake. I look at Justin’s grave one last time before turning my heels and head back to the pack. That man, that monster isn't supposed to be in my territory. How does he even remember the way back? I remembered very well that I took away his werewolf and alpha powers, made him forget that he was ever a werewolf and an alpha, and sent him away. “What brings him home now?” I ask myself, without getting an answer. My thoughts go back to when I defeated my father. “You fucking fool.” He shouts as he’s on his knees, shamelessly. “I’ve waited for this day for a long time.” “You must be stupid and out of your mind to think that I’ll let you take what I’ve worked so hard for.” I let my hand land very hard in his face, t
Chapter 93 Arthur’s POVI didn’t know how hard it is to be a leader, till I woke up this morning feeling the emptiness of Tori. It’s been over two months now and the pack is beginning to settle into its uneasy version of peace. I find myself sitting in the pack’s hall, with two patrol warriors waiting for me to decide on their dispute. “I did nothing but my own part of the patrol.” “You were intruding into my space.” They exchange words with each other and I just look at them. This is no longer a wartime matter, where orders can be sharp and final. This is the quieter work of holding people together when there is no common enemy left to unite them. They keep throwing insults and arguing between themselves. “Enough,” I say in a calm yet commanding voice. This dispute isn't serious at all, but the tension in the room makes it feel larger than it is. “You both overstepped,” I say to them, sounding even. “You will run the next three north rotations together. If I hear of anothe
Chapter 92Arthur’s POVEverything feels so different and confusing. Tori’s absence is having a heavy negative impact on everyone, even the pack. I find myself getting lost in my thoughts every two seconds. For months now, my sleep has been interrupted by urgent reports, patrols to assign, and other issues here and there. Of course, there’s Oliver to have things put in place, I still have to be there to ensure that everything is going very well. Everything in the pack is moving slower than usual. The corridors no longer carry the same sharp tension as before, the training grounds sound different without the edge of preparation in every drill. It should be a relief, but it gives me a restless and uncomfortable sensation. Sitting at the head of the long table, alone in the war room, with a cup of full coffee sitting in my hands, doesn’t seem to help ease my racing heart. “You’re up early,” Kylian says, as he enters the war room without knocking. “Didn’t sleep much.” I glance a
