"Wake up, please come on, get up, hurry they're going to kill us" the voice in my head whimpers. My eyes snap open staring into the darkness, my mind fuzzy, my body aches laying on the familiar lumpy mattress on the floor in the middle of the room. I ease off the mattress, praying I don't wake them, I crawl along the floor, making sure I don't hit any loose floorboards that creak, as I make my way out of the door. I take a steadying breath and continue down the hallway to the bathroom at the back of the shack. I stand inside grabbing my clothes and bag out of the tub, I get dressed quickly, grab my shoes and gently open the back door just enough for my body to slip through and shut it. I slip on my shoes and run down the path into the forest and inhale deeply allowing the fresh air to expand my lungs. It's still dark, I walk just inside the treeline of the main road hoping they don't come after me. The forest is silent the only sound is my feet crunching the dried leaves as I make my way.
Seeing the lights of the Diner in the distance, I sigh in relief, I whisper to myself, "Happy 18th Birthday Charlie Dabb," today I'll work my shift, act as I normally do, only today I'll take all the stashed money in my locker and get on the bus and never look back, forget the past 13 years of my life in it's entirety. The Diner lights come into view and I walk around and enter from the back. I put up my bag and pull on my apron. I walk out of the door from the kitchen to the dining area and see Margie already with a customer, he's a handsome guy sitting in the last booth, sipping on coffee. My voice is low, "morning Margie, sorry, I guess I'm late."
She turns to greet me and her hands go to her mouth, she grabs my shoulders, "oh dear God Charlie, what have they done to you?" her eyes wide and glistening with unshed tears.
My brows furrow in confusion, "excuse me, I need the bathroom." I glance at the guy at the table, who's eyes haven't left me and hurry to the rest room. I look into the mirror and tears flood my eyes, my nose is broken, my face is one huge purple mess, my lips are split. I mumble, "I'm so numb to this I don't feel the pain," I adjust my wide headband that covers the bald spots on the top of my head, from where they pulled it out dragging me around the house. I wash my face to remove the dried tears and come out of the rest room.
Margie's face is red, "can I call the sheriff now, will you please tell someone?"
My eyes dart to the handsome stanger and shake my head at her, I try to smile, "Margie, I fell and face planted, you know how clumsy I am." I turn towards the guy in the booth, "have you ordered?" He nods and before he can say anything, headlights hit me from the front of the diner. I turn on my heels and head to the kitchen. I see John, Margie's husband, cooking the order for the guy already , I yell out to him, "hey John, morning." He grunts and continues cooking.
I hear the buzzer go off, telling us the door has opened out front, I hesitate before I turn to walk out, when it goes off again and I hear yelling, I freeze, as my step-dad's voice rings out, " Get your ass out here Charlie, we weren't done with it yet?" My body moves on it's own as I run to the walk-in and sit down on the crates in the back, my body shakes with fear as tears stream down my face.
I wait until Margie opens the walk in and pulls me out, "there gone, darling, your safe for now, please let me call the Sheriff, they can take you to safety, leave this area."
I shake my head at her, "I'll be fine Margie, I just want to finish my shift today, please." I go to the sink and wash my face with cold water, I wait for John to plate the food. I pile them on the serving tray, put it on my shoulder and walk out to the table, 2 other guys are sitting there. I grab the platter stand and place it out and put the serving tray on it, I turn holding 2 plates, "who has the french toast?"
I hear a voice that sends shivers down my spine with one word, "MINE" my head snaps toward it and I'm met with a greek god, his smile is wide, but then fades into a frown, as he takes in my face, my eyes lift to his, they're blue, like the deepest part of the ocean and I feel a tug in my heart. My hands shake as I place the plate down in front of him and stumble back a bit, one hand covers my heart as the other fly's to mouth trying to stiffle the word the voice is yelling in my head, a whisper leaves my lips before my hand slaps it shut, "mate?" I turn to the serving plater and remove the other items, placing them on the table. I look at the floor, "is there anything else I can get for you?"
The guy that was here first sweetly offers, "can we buy your breakfast Charlie?"
The greek-god must take offense to his offer and grunts at me, "thanks, I think we're good, but please check back in on us, Okay Charlie."
I shake my head at the other guy, "not necessary, but thank you anyway."
I go into the kitchen, my heart is shattering by the way the greek god's blue eyes held pity or disgust for me, either way, I hated it. I've never felt so dirty, so ugly in my life and that's saying something for me, my step father and brother have made me feel so worthless, but this, that man out there, the way he looked at me, that made the last 13 years seem like practice for this very moment of pain. The voice in my head is making me crazier by the minute, screaming "he's our Mate, he will protect us, go back in there." I rub at my temples, this is crazy, what the fuck are you talking about, either make sense or be quite. I walk back out to the counter and start placing out settings for our morning rush, not realizing I'm talking out loud to this stupid voice in my head, arguing with it.

I wake up and grab my phone and sigh, he hasn’t responded or even read the message, my heart plummets into my stomach. Storm whimpers, “he hates us now, I told you to be careful with him and now look what you’ve done,” she howls in anguish in my head.I drag myself to the shower and then dress in sweatpants and a tank top and walk down to the kitchen. I enter and look at the counter and the box of pastries sits there staring at me, I kiss Nonna’s cheek, “morning Nonna.”She smiles at me, “Good morning, Abi,” she plates food and goes to Jackson and Richard, placing them in front of the two and messes up their hair, “eat boys, you have a big day today.” My ears perk at what she’s said, and I grab a glass of juice and sit across from them, “what’s happening today that is special?” I sip my juice eyeing them as they both look at each other with worried expressions. I scrunch my brows together and look at them, “well, what?”The door to the kitchen opens and Momma walks in and she sque
I wake up, take a shower and get dressed, I walk into the kitchen and grab some coffee and walk past my brother without saying a word, I get to the door and he speaks, “Alpha Christov, maybe you should come and train some this morning, it might do you some good.”I grunt at him and walk out the door, I go to my office, the door in the bookcase is now sealed by the counsel investigator and I’m glad that this part is over. The phone on my desk rings and I answer, “Iron Claw, Alpha Christov,” today I’m not pleasant and I don’t care, last night did it for me. After Investigator Ryan left, I let Boris out for a run and my mind thought deeply about my mate, the female made just to fit perfectly with me, the same female that has made it clear from the second we met she has no interest in me, no feeling for me, no want or need. Boris doesn’t agree with me and argued on her behalf, but I know the truth even telling him she tried to reject us just a few days ago, her feeling are not changing
I head to my office and walk past the family lounge and notice all my siblings are sitting in there with Nonna, the smell of popcorn hits my nose. I stop and poke my head inside and look around, “it’s not Sunday, what’s going on?”Nonna smiles, “Abi, it is Sunday, you’ve been sleeping sweetheart.”I walk to my office and open the door, “what day is today?”I stop and look at everyone in the room, Momma giggles, “Sunday, you slept the entire weekend away, using your power will do that.” I sit and stare at everyone, “so what’s going on, what have I missed?”Beta Josh looks at me, “Alpha Abigail, we called the counsel and Investigator Ryan was here and interviewed the prisoners in the cells. Only one was forthcoming with information, he said that he was there but not to do anything but to get more information on the people that are running this ring. He also said that when you interrogated him, you didn’t allow him to properly explain anything.”My eyes widened to them all, “I could s
I mind linked Dimitri to come to my office and bring a few warrior’s with him.Beta Catherine and I both pulled books off of the enormous wall of shelves and placed them at the other end of the office. We were only ½ way through when Dimitri and a few warriors entered. Dimitri chuckled, “you didn’t call us here to help you redecorate did you Alpha Christov?”I arch a brow, “no I didn’t, help us and move all the books from the shelves, Beta Catherine says that this office use to be double the size it is right now, and these shelves were not here years ago.”We continue to move books for another 30 minutes when one of the warriors pulls a book and the middle shelves open with a swoosh. We all stand there looking at the opening, I move towards it and Dimitri stands next to me, “don’t touch anything in there, not anything.”I only nod as I walk towards the opening, the scent of dried blood hits my nose and I stop, I turn to Beta Catherine, “call the counsel, I want someone down here no
I woke up to the sound of giggling, and I know before I open my eyes that Tyler had infiltrated my bedroom. I roll to my side and keep my eyes closed, just long enough for him to think I’m still asleep. I peek through one of my eyes and he has my phone and is hitting goddess knows what. I don’t pay much mind, until I hear a ping, and he giggles again. I sit up on my elbows and look over his head at the phone. My eyes widen as I see the caller ID he is texting. I groan and lay back in the bed, slapping myself in the forehead and growl, “Tyler, why are you on my phone?”He climbs up on the bed, his face hovers over mine and his smile beams at me, “it’s my friend,” he says like he has any idea who he is texting or what he is texting.I look at him as he straddles my stomach with his tiny legs, I chuckle at him, “what’s your friends name?”I see him hitting the phone with his finger, his tongue sticking out the side of his mouth in deep concentration, then he looks up at me, “Wolf o
I pick up the phone and dial the counsel, I’m not getting into deep shit over this disgusting affair, and neither is Dimitri. I waited and a voice came over the phone, I explained that I found this file after they had removed everything that they thought belonged to Stano and they assured me that they would send someone over to collect it. I look around the office and it still feels off to me, there is something about this room that just isn’t symmetrical. I walk outside and look at the building and then go back inside and head for the kitchen that when I see Beta female Catherine, “hey, we got home late last night and didn’t see you.” She smiles weakly, “did you find out anything?”I nod, “we believe he was at the diner you told us about, the woman said that a man had stopped in after years of not showing up to get his wife some of her yeast rolls.” I smile at her, “we won’t stop looking for him, don’t worry, we will find him.”I start to walk out of the kitchen when I turn, ‘Be
I sit on the back steps just staring out over the garden with a cup of coffee clutched in my hands and tears again stream down my face. I don’t know how my mother does this, how she sleeps at night with all the screams of the children she rescued and healed on replay in her mind. I did just one and his screams and his terror flooded my mind. I hear the door open, and her scent surrounds me, my voice cracks, “hi Momma.”She sits down next to me and takes the cold coffee cup from my hands and holds them, I feel her power and her white light floods me, I don’t look at her and she doesn’t speak as the boys screams lessen in my mind and the terror that was his now vanishes. She lets go and places a hot cup of cocoa in my hands. Her voice is soft and soothing, “drink and then go lay down Abi, you need to rest and sleep now.”I turn to her, “how do you do it Momma, it’s too much.”She smiles at me, “Rayne removes it from me, as she just did for you.”I nod, “you were wrong about Alpha Ch
I point to the glove box, “put that file in there.” I look at the side mirror to pull back out on to the road and that’s when I notice red/blue flashing lights and the faint sound of sirens coming up behind us in the distance. I look at Dimitri, “something big is going on for that many cars.”He turns to look out the back window and his eyes widen, “fuck yea, for a small town like this?”I pull out and turn the car, heading towards all the flashing lights. I stop as they all take a left in front of me down a dirt road, we watch all the State Police vehicles move at top speed past us, two ambulances, two vans go by us one is CSI (Crime Scene Investigations) and another that says Med Path Unit. We look at each other and shrug, “whatever happened doesn’t concern us, but it must be huge.”We pull into the town, which is only a few stores and a bed and bath. We enter all the stores and get weird looks from the owners as we walk around and then ask if they have seen our friend that has
