Liam prepared the bath and left the room. Outside her bedroom, Liam lingered in the hallway. He told himself he was just making sure she wouldn't need anything else, but part of him questioned why he was standing guard like some devoted beta.

He ran his fingers through his hair in frustration. *When did I become like this?* This wasn't normal for him. His time was valuable—he should be reviewing pack documents instead of hovering outside the door.

Just as he turned to leave, Allison's voice drifted through the crack in the door. Unable to help himself, Liam peered through the narrow opening and caught a glimpse of Allison toweling her damp hair, her bare legs exposed beneath her short robe.

Allison's POV

I watched him go before stripping off my clothes and sinking into the warm water, letting out a contented sigh as I settled in for a much-needed soak.

I grabbed my phone and called my mother, Gina. Her booming voice nearly brought tears to my eyes after the day I'd had.
