LOGINEmily's POV
“Follow Nala.” The female Alpha, wife to Alpha Damon III said, after addressing me for what seemed like an eternity. I'd read about her so much and studied the history of the Damon palace so badly, I feel I knew it even more than their children. “Thank you, Alpha.” I bowed and turned to take my leave. “I'm Luna.” She corrected me. “Thank you, Luna.” I corrected myself. We were taught back at the orphanage school that she was a nice person, but just an hour in her company, and I felt so less of a human than anyone has ever made me feel. “Take her away, Nala.” She said to the middle aged lady she'd summoned earlier, from what assumed to be the palace kitchen. “One more thing!” She said, and Nala and I stopped in our tracks. “Yes, Luna.” Nala said, turning right back to face her, and then bowed her head. The dexterity is nothing short of wealth and accumulation of experience. I did the exact same and almost sprained my ankle. “You're to serve under Nala.” Luna said, “She'd tell you what the schedule is. But here's my own rule: You must not be found. You're to be in the kitchen, and when you're not, in your quarters. Do I make myself clear?!” She asked. “Crystal clear, Ma'am.” I said. Bad choice of words! Before I could correct my silly self, Nala whacked my back, sending my knees buckling. I crashed on my knees, and decided to beg Luna on them. “I'm sorry. I mean, I fully understand you.” I corrected. “Good.” She said, and dismissed us. Nala walked with speed out of the palace's main living room. I heard there's nine more of them. One could live in the palace without seeing all the four walls of it, ever. “How old are you?” Nala asked. “Eighteen.” I replied to her. “Do you have a wolf?” Nala asked, her voice a little lowered. I know I was supposed to be scared of her. Seeing as she had total control over me in my stay at the palace, I was too much of a free bird to be caged or fit into norms and customs. “Why do you ask?” I asked Nala. I blinked rapidly, expecting another hit, maybe this time to my head. “Cause if you've got one, you're gonna need her.” Nala said. The hair on my back rose. “What do you mean?” I asked Nala. “For what would I need her?” I asked again. “The male and female quarters aren't very demarcated.” She smiled sadly. “While it's no bother for old women like us, the males like to get adventurous with the bodies of young girls like you.” “Why is that?” I asked. “Aren't you supposed to inform Luna of this?!” I asked. I've barely ever lived with males all my life. While it was thrilling to have them closer than I ever did, it also made me a bit scared. The Groomers school was almost ninety percent girls, I didn't know how to deal with guys. “You think she doesn't know?” Nka asked, chuckling. She looked so beautiful when she smiled. So beautiful I was almost tempted to forgive her for what she did to me in the presence of Luna. “That's not so good.” I thought aloud. “And what do you mean by adventurous?” I asked her. “You'll find out.” Nala said, and branched into a room, off the broad corridor. I'd love to see the blueprint of the palace architecture someday. It had such a broad corridor, it felt like I was walking on some small street, or a broadway. “What's life in the kitchen like?” I asked Nala. “What do you think?” She replied to me. “You cook?” I asked. Well, Nala didn't have to reply to me,but she did. I got to the entrance of the “room” She branched into, and read the inscription above the door, “Kitchen”. “Yeah. For a thousand people.” She smiled. “Go chop those garlics and get them here once you're done.” I finally looked away from Nala to see the largest number of people I ever saw in one place at once. It looked more like an industrial kitchen than a home kitchen. I made a mental note of the millions of questions I had for Nala. “You're gawking so hard. You must be the new girl.” A voice said from behind me. “Yeah. Uhm, I'm sorry.” I apologized, looking down at my feet like I saw Nala did when she addressed Luna. “Come on.” He said, “You don't have to be that way with me. I'm Zathen.” “Oh. Hi.” I said straightening up to the very handsome young man. I couldn't believe men could be that fine. I pinched myself back into reality. “I'm Emily.” “Hi Emily.” He said. “Hi Zathen.” I replied to him, basically just mirroring what he said cause my brain couldn't be bothered to function. “I'll see you around.” He said, and walked off into some part of the kitchen fogged and clouded by flour and steam I sighed and got back to chopping what Nala asked me to. I soon got done, and took them to her. “What took you so long?” Nala asked as soon as I got closer to her “I'm sorry.” I apologised first. “I got distracted.” “I can't afford for that to happen often.” She replied, still not taking her eyes off the big pot she was tending to. “You won't have to.” I assured her. “Good.” She said, “Drop those and get to the Onions.” It was one thing after the other, and soon, the big pendulum clock rang, signifying the end of the day. The sigh in the kitchen immediately after the clock struck 8pm was the most realistic choreography I ever saw. The tired faces all straightened out, as they packed up, and took off the aprons. I had my Groomers uniform on, since I hadn't been given a uniform yet. “I'll take you to the Servants Quarters in a minute.” Nala said. “Please let me.” A familiar voice said. Nala and I looked at the intruder. “Oh. Hi Zathen.” I greeted him, smiling. I looked at Nala, and while her smile wasn't as wide as mine, she looked quite pleasant. “I'd be most grateful.” Nala said, smiling. “Let's go.” Zathen turned to me, and even took my hand. It took about four minutes of brisk walking to get out of the kitchen through the back door which led to some other part of the palace. “You're so kind.” I said to Zathen, trying to strike a conversation. “No I'm not.” He replied. “I think I like you.” He added.Lucas’ POV “It's been over three hours.” I shook Emily up. “What's the time?” She asked sleepily. “It's eleven am.” I answered. It was a good idea to sleep the drugs out of my system, what she didn't know is that I can't sleep out the amount I'd dosed on. While she shuffled between conscious and half-consciousness, I doused my head in water a couple of times, till I felt a little bit alive. “Up now?” I rubbed my hands softly down her arm. “Yeah, yeah.” She sniffed. “I need clothes though.” “There's a couple of gowns in that drawer. I ordered them for something else, but we'd work with this.” “I'm curious.” Emily drawled. “You're too sleepy to be.” I joked and carried her up. “Let's do this, baby.” “Ooh. Pet names now?” She asked. “You've always been my pet. Just a stubborn one.” I smiledIt took about twenty minutes to get her to wake up, at least enough to take a shower and dress up. By the time we got done and ready, it was almost one pm. Emily refuse
Emily's POV I stayed still till I was sure that I had no company anymore. Matter of fact, I watched by my window as Vera and her hooded man made it out. Another thing I took note of was that the security guy was quite familiar with him. It was one of two things. Either he worked in Nevada, or our security had began eating from two plates. Five a.m. struck, and I watched the digital alarm in my office that goes off at the top of the hour ring. I had no sleep, and my eyes felt heavy and hooded, more as I had to strain my eyes in the dark. I didn't know if Vera was the only company I had. I needed to be cautious. Giving it one more hour, I shot up from where I'd been hiding. My limbs felt sore, and crankled with every step I took. Finally, I was out. The security guy I met had left, change of shifts I guess. It didn't mean that I did not have a hard time greeting the new guy who was actually one of my faves. Matter of fact, I'd given him a few stuffs, maybe not so few, cause
Emily's POV I hadn't seen Adrian too in a while. Not after that night that went badly. It was unkike him to not reach out. I was starting to think he'd reconsidered and decided to have a family with Lillian instead. Maybe the three-to-one was too much for him. Hell, I wasn't complaining. Who's he to feel bad about it? After about thirty minutes of intense lip pursing, leg shaking, and occasional sighs, I worked up the courage to call him. His number had sunk so deep in my call history. To call or to text? I had a hard time making my mind up. I finally gave in. He would have his reasons. It definitely would take more than that to chase Adrian off, that I was sure of. I rounded up my work on time and left the office about two hours earlier. Damon was absent, so no one else could keep me waiting. “Bye guys.” I chirped at the last set of people on my way out. The drive home was short, as usual, even though I stopped to get wings. Too lazy to cook or do anything for that m
Damon's POV “When last did you speak to Lucas?” Emily asked. That's the first thing she'd said to me in about a week now. “Been a minute. What's up?” I asked, trying not to let my excitement show. “It's been radio silence. Just wondering.” She said, trying not to look too bothered. “I'll place a call.” I offered dismissively. “Or is it his turn to warm your bed?” I asked. “Is that the only excuse that speaks to you. How about a concerned citizen thinking of another?” She asked sarcastically. “That's never been you. Don't lie to me. You want him so bad everyday he's stayed away from you dug the hole deeper within you. I wish I had his strength sometimes.” I sneered. “You know what? You're right. For every minute that I don't feel his touch, my skin hates it, it crawls. And crawls even more when someone else tries to fill his place.” She sucked her teeth lightly and left. “This bitch is just trying to get a reaction.” I told myself. “And I'm not gonna give her.”
Lucas’ POV “I know you better than you think I do.” Rayvn broke the silence. Her voice sounded clearer, a little too clear for someone who'd cried so hard only a few minutes ago. “If I wasn't on the wheels right now, I'd be trying to get a better view of you.” I replied to her. “You don't have to. You've seen me enough.” She puffed and threw her glance out the window. “Maybe a little too much.” “Can we just erase all the bad parts that happened and try to keep our head fixed on the positives?” “That's easy for you to say. At least you don't have two pups planted in you without your permission.” She huffed. “We both wanted that night to happen.” I said. No matter how mad Rayvn was, I'm never gonna let her rewrite history. “Not how it went, no.” She said quietly. “You've fancied me for a long time, Rayvn. What is making this too difficult for you?” I asked sincerely. “I had a female friend I could trust. I haven't had one of those in years. And you took that
Lucas’ POV The nightmares were getting worse. And Jo, it wasn't the sounds the villagers said they heard at the edge of town. It was me, all me. Since Rayvn tore at me, spitting all sorts, I couldn't help but wonder what next to do. Things weren't turning out how I planned. And that's sad cause I had even more enemies now.Pissed and irritated by a sweat laden pillow, I kicked it off the bed and took my next victim for the night. The digital bedside clock read “01:56”.I felt an urge to talk but there was no one to talk to. I wanted to call Emily. I mean, she came to my mind immediately. But what was I gonna tell her? It's been days since we saw each other. I hadn't text or called. It wasn't like me to chase sheepishly after a woman. All my life, it'd been the other way round. I resent Moon Goddess for giving her such power, but there was little I could do about it. The insane attraction I felt to her doubled every single time we were in the same space, my belly tingled, my t
