Mag-log inThe days that followed were swifter than anything else to me. nausea would appear and then leave again. But my strength continued to increase. I could run even faster, now detect a little beast in its shelter from fifty feet. Nyx, my Inner Wolf was silent, but certainly not sad, and I knew she must be waiting.
I avoided the cave, afraid he might return. I thought that someone else might even stumble on it. I left my sleeping site high up in the thick branches of a tall tree.
As the afternoon came, I recalled when I was trying to catch a fish in the stream. My heart was pounding very deeply. A baby. How could I have a baby out here, in the cold, with no food, no shelter?
A tree branch broke behind me.
I turned quickly, my muscles almost shrinking into a thin line. My senses, much sharper than they had ever been, had noticed nothing. It was impossible.
Right in front of her, there stood the man in the dark, plain clothes made of soft leather. In the daylight, he looked even brighter, and his eyes shone with an inner fire. “You’re thinking too loudly, little wolf,” he said, the sound of his voice rumbling softly.
“How did you find me?” I asked, taking a step backwards.
"I will always find you," he said, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. He looked at me, staring deep into my skin. "You look stronger. The sickness has started?"
I looked at him in shock, my hand unknowingly reaching over to cover my belly. “You knew? You knew that this would happen?”
A thin smile spread on his face. It wasn't evil, just full of a wild certainty. "It was always a possibility. A very welcome one."
“Who are you?” I managed to say, voicing out the words from my mouth loud, my voice shaking with anger and fear.
“My name is Kael. I am the Alpha of the Shadow Moon Pack,” he said.
Shadow Moon.
I had always heard the stories. Movies and stories were nothing but legends. A wolf pack that lived far, far away in the mountains, in a territory all their own, separate from the others. It was purely old, powerful, and strange—somewhat different from the other wolf packs.
But I didn't recognize any Kael.
“Why me?” I whispered, trying not to flinch. “Why did you come to me?”
“You called on me, Annie,” Kael said, taking a step forward. His scent filled my nostrils. Immediately, I felt my nerves calm and my passions stirred. “Your power awoke when your old pack threw you out. Your power is an unusual one. A strong power that only bursts forth in a thick spark. I sensed the presence of your power from my own territory. I could find your power out through its scent."
“My power?” I laughed, but it was an empty sound. “I have no power,” I continued. “I was an Omega. The weakest in my pack.
“You were never an Omega,” Kael said, “Your old pack was blind. They suffocated you with their regulations and their social structure. Your real nature could not breathe in that land. The rejection was the key that unlocked you,” Kael said.
He nodded at the spot on my leg. It was almost as if I could sense a warm glow springing from it. "This sign on your leg, it is more than simply a claim. It is a catalyst. And it shall serve to increase your power. Power for you and your child."
“Our child,” I repeated, the words sounding strange to me. “I can't raise a child here, out in the wildest darkness.”
Kael's blue eyes locked on mine, and he spoke in all seriousness. “You are not raising it in the darkness. Just prepare. You are coming with me.”
Panic began to flow through my chest. “To your pack? No. I won’t be an outcast again. I won’t be the weak one, the stranger.”
“You will be neither,” he said. There was no room for debate in his voice. “You are my destined mate. The marking on you attests to it. You are carrying the future Alpha of the Shadow Moon Pack. And you shall be their Luna. You shall be respected. And you shall be deeply feared by all your subjects and even others.
Fated Mate.
The words echoed in my soul. Nyx, my Inner Wolf howled, not in sorrow, but in a feeling that victory was near. She had known all along.
“I don’t know you,” I said, even as my composure dropped a bit.
“You will,” he promised. He offered his hand. “Come, Annie. Your old life is over. A new one awaits. One of power. One where you belong. With me.”
Then I looked at the offered hand. I considered the cold and alone months. I thought about the fear I had to endure every single day of my life. I considered the baby in my womb, who deserved so much better than a life in the darkness.
And I thought of the newfound power flowing through my veins. The strength he said was only the starr. I've made my choice. I stopped being afraid.
Bravely, I straightened my shoulders.
I looked at him, directly into the depth of those deep blue eyes of his. I saw my future there. I put my hand in his. A move of energy, warm and strong, hit my arm. "Okay," I said, and my voice was firm. "Take me home." Kael grinned happily.
It was the sun after a long, cold winter. He pulled me into a hug, and the world melted away. Then I discovered the stranger in the cave had left.
Now, he seemed to be my own true mate. And the dark woods, where I was once held captive, now became the way leading to my newfound life. I was ready to claim it by all means.
Suddenly, Nyx nudged me, “I didn't want to annoy you when I saw Kael with you, so I was quiet. Run from him. He is just a secretly evil stranger. Run!”
I had woken up early. My heart still burned from the heat of s*x with Damon last night. My pups were sleeping peacefully beside me, their small chests were heaving up and down as if they had already grown into an Alpha.I kissed their heads softly and got up from the bed.Scarlett was waiting for me at the door. “Today we will find out the truth,” she whispered. “Even before Cassandra makes her move.”“Let us leave your twin pups with an old Omega woman who once owed my mother a favour.”Scarlett held my hand and led me through the path to an old building. I saw the pack archives. The door sounded loud as I pushed it open. Dust floated with the thin rays of sunlight that spread over the house.“Quick,” Scarlett said, snapping her fingers. “Honestly… we really do not have much time".Afterwards, she pulled an old book from the shelf, her cracked hands were even shaking as she opened it.My father’s name was clearly written on the cover. WOLFE.Then she sat me down again. “Daughter… you
The whole pack stood in the square, watching in silence. Kael stood outside the gates, his blue eyes burning into me. Damon stood at my side, his body tight with anger.I stepped forward, heart pounding. My voice came out stronger than I expected.“I am not a prize for either of you to fight overThe crowd whispered. Cassandra’s face twisted with hate.I looked straight at Damon first. “You rejected me on my birthday. You slept with her,” I point at Cassandra, “then threw me into the woods to die. Now you want me back because I returned with power?”Damon’s golden eyes looked pained. He spoke loud enough for everyone to hear. “I was wrong. Cassandra lied to me. She fed me stories about threats to the pack. I let pride and fear control me. I take back the rejection. Annie is not an Omega. She is my true mate.”Gasps spread through the crowd. Scarlett smiled through tears. Cassandra looked ready to kill.I turned to Kael. “You found me when I was broken. You gave me safety and pups. But
The days in the Omega quarters were still passing by slowly and by time. I kept my head down during the day, scrubbing floors and washing clothes like a good little Omega. But, every night I trained in the woods with Nyx to keep my strength growing intact. My body kept growing stronger. My shift came faster. I could feel the power forming inside me like a storm about to burst.“Do you remember,” Nyx said. “Laman got angry at a toy and his tiny fist cracked the wooden crib in half.”“I know…”“They need an Alpha Dad.It was true.I even had to hide the broken pieces before anyone could see him.Protecting my two pups was what mattered to me now.Leo and Laman were only eight months old, but they were just shifting too fast. I was surprised that even their eyes flashed deep blue and silver. They were growling like full grown Alphas. Mom we want to eat… we want to sleep…”My heart skipped for fear.I walked outside to spread some clothes and I ran in immediately.Laman stood on the floor
I could not sleep that night. The thin mattress was hard like a stone under my head. I carried Leo and Laman, and their small bodies felt warm and heavy with power at the same time on my hands.Every few minutes, one of them would growl in their sleep. The sound they made was a bit scary. They were growing too fast and too strong.Scarlett came in just before sunrise. She slipped into the room like a shadow. As soon as she saw me, her eyes drenched with tears. She pulled me into a tight hug without saying a word at first.“Annie, my daughter!” She said, pulling me even tighter to herself.“Mom,” I whispered, my voice cracking. “I thought I would never see you again.”She held my face in both hands and stared at me from my head to my toe. “You are different now.Why wouldn’t you see me again? What happened to you out there, Annie?”I was speaking to her in a very calm voice. The memories started coming again… the cold woods, the cave, the blue-eyed stranger, the night he f*ck*d me, the
I was just Annie, but I had eyes. The journey back to Silver Sword territory took exactly three long days. Every step was like a mountain to crush. My twins, Leo and Laman, were only eight months old, and they already had too much power even with their small bodies.Very quickly in the morning, I strapped tight against my chest and back in soft cloth slings.Their warmth pressed into my skin, but their strong Alpha scent was filling me up.I applied herbs to their clothes instantly, to keep them safe from danger. My legs were aching at the same time. My back was burning as well, but I still kept moving.Nyx was calm inside me, only speaking whenever I needed her direction. “Left at the old tree,” she would whisper. “Stay downwind.” Her voice gave me strength when fear tried to slow me down.”As the tall gates of the Silver Sword Pack finally appeared through the trees, my heart began to pound hard. I had to even stop at the side of the woods, stay and stare at the place where I got ba
A burning pain crossed through me, forcing a painful shout from my throat. My body was uncontrollably shaky. It felt as if I was being torn in half."Push, my brave girl! Push for your white pups!"The voice was my mother's. Mom? White pups?I forced my eyes open. I wasn't in the damp cave anymore. I was in a clean, makeshift room, lying on a soft bed. My mother was seated by my side, her face soaked with tears and stress, but alight with something that looked like hope. A fat, elderly woman I didn't recognise, the Wolf Doctor judging by the scent that smelled of medicine, was standing over me."Annie, you are awake! You dare not sleep, dear. The second one is on the way!" my mother exclaimed, stroking my forehead. The second one. I groaned, the pain returning with a heart of revenge. I felt Nyx sighing heavily, saying nothing. One final, strong push, and finally, the pain receded, replaced by an overwhelming peace, strange in its way.The Wolf Doctor began rejoicing over me. "Two hea
