***Olivia’s POV***
I watched it in slow motion. Ricky had broken free of Aamon’s Alpha presence and shifted, running toward us. Aamon had taken over completely. I saw it in his eyes and in the presence. There were a few moments I could feel Desmond as he tried to fight through the power of his wolf. He lost though. He had jumped, his jaws open as Ricky jumped from the side, trying to get between us. Desmond might have tried to stop but I knew Aamon wouldn’t. Marcus had talked about him the last few times we had spoken.
The Demon Wolf as he was better known. Every few generations an Alpha would be born with him. Usually they became cruel and sadistic, Aamon eventually taking over fully. Hunters were well acquainted with the stories because when a new demon wolf was awakened, it usually meant that the elite hunters were sent to kill them before he could take over. Here I, an elite hunter, staring down the
To say I turned a few heads was an understatement. The moment I walked into the town, I think everyone stopped to stare. It was actually embarrassing. I knew this was what was going to happen but I didn’t think it would be as bad as the movies. When someone rides a bike past and runs into a pole because they were staring. That’s exactly what happened. You would think I would be used to it but I didn’t really stay in small towns like this for long periods of time. Big cities were used to eclectic groups of people and no one would give me a second glance. I walked across the street into the grassy park of the center square. Ducking into the marble gazebo, I reveled in the shade. The weather wasn’t hot but the two hour walk in the sun wasn’t exactly fun. Leaning against the gazebo railing, I looked out over the main city streets. The most attention I received had been from the pack members, not so much the fey or the tourists.
“F “Fucking shit. God fucking bullshit dumb ass…” I continued to curse as I pushed on the wrench that refused to give. Currently, I was under the house. I pulled up some of the rotted floor boards to get at the plumbing underneath the house. It took the entire previous day but I had cleaned out the water filter and pump on the side of the house. It was definitely where the green tint was coming from. The filter had been surprisingly undamaged and so I left it in there after cleaning it out. Now I just need to find where the hell the brown was coming from in the pipes. “Mother fucking dick…” I kicked the wrench with my heel. “Fucking move god damn it.” Kicking it again, I felt it budge every so slightly. Elated, I grabbed the wrench and pushed. It moved slowly, the creaking of the pipes filled the small space but finally it gave. “Holy mother above
“Can I see it? The mark?” Desmond asked after a few minutes. He looked like he has been sitting on the question for a while. I nodded. “I wasn’t planning on going into town today, so I didn’t take a potion.” Pulling up my shirt, Desmond’s hands slammed down on mine. “What do you think you are doing?” “I thought you wanted to see…” “You don’t have to take your shirt off for it!” I looked at him, smiling as he was completely panic stricken. “Actually. I do.” The panic was replaced by confusion but I pulled off my shirt and moved my hair to the left side, baring my neck to him. “The hell…” He didn’t finish as his fingers reached out and traced the giant mark on my neck and shoulders. I shivered, biting back a moan as pleasure coursed through me. His light touch against the area was making me melt. My brain turned to mush and I couldn’t even think of anything anymore. Closing my eyes, I tried to hold it in, stuff it down.
We had pulled up all the floor boards and put plywood down first. I used the waterproof cover on the bottom of the plywood before nailing it down, hoping that would keep at least some of the water away. After that, I put a layer of moisture protection and then the actual flooring on top of that. Desmond had put in each of the pieces after I had sanded them down by hand so that I wouldn’t get any splinters until I could seal it. “Fuck, I’m tired.” I flopped down in the middle of the clearing. Desmond chuckled and sat down next to me. “I don’t think I’ve done so much construction in my life.” I laughed. “You are so lucky your dad is the construction guru.” “Ungrateful.” “Oh…sorry. Did I bruise the poor Alpha’s ego?” I stuck my tongue out at him and he smiled. The simple smile made my heart soar and I quickly had to turn away from him. I looked up at the sky. The clouds white and billowy moved quickly across the blue sky. Closing my eyes,
***Desmond’s POV*** I felt the shift in the bond. My laughter quieted as I looked at my mate. She was leaning against the house, her head up. Noticing the tears streaming down her face, I quickly moved up to her. My hands held her head and I searched her face. The bond was wavering between multiple emotions from her but the major one was despair. “Olivia?” She shook her head but I pulled her head to me, our foreheads touching. I held onto her until she finally looked at me, tears streaming down her face. “I’m here. I’m not going anywhere.” I brushed her cheek with my thumb. “I’m yours, Olivia.” More tears fell from her eyes and she tried to shake her head but I held her head straight. “You are my soulmate. I was picked for you. No matter our lives or how complicated or messy it is. That is a fact that will not change. Do you understand?” She nodded slowly, the tears not falling as quickly now. “I’m sorry.
Helena hadn’t come back for two nights after that. I took the kids to school and worked at the pack house for most of the time. My heart started to hurt and I knew I would maybe have one day left in me without needing to see her. Olivia hadn’t come into town all the days as well. I kept feeling for the bond, just in case. In case I could steal her away for a moment but she didn’t come. My father had come by, saying he was doing another delivery out to her and was wondering if I wanted to go but I was so backed up I could feel Scott boring into my back. Daring me to say yes. I had seen Nasir a couple times in the morning. He would stop for pets and then continue about his business. No one had complained about a wolf being nearby. He had been keeping a low enough profile, so I didn’t mind him running around early. Taking a deep, calculated breath, I glared at Scott. “I’m gonna need a break soon.” He scoffed. “You don’t need a break Alpha. You’re fit as fiddle.”
The woman stepped up to me and looked over me. Her nails dragged over my chest as she walked around me. “I have heard of you, Alpha Desmond. You have protected my people, given them sanctuary, safe passage, and even avenged them.” She tsked. “But even with all that, I’m not sure I can feel that you are worthy of my daughter.” I smiled. “That is something we can agree on.” Tatiana looked at me with a smirk. “So you understand how special my little mongrel is?” “Yes, My Queen. I also don’t think there is enough time left for me to even come close to feeling like I was worthy of her. There were times I felt the moon goddess had abandoned me but I know that when I first caught her scent, I wasn’t ready to take on the monumental task of living up to her.” I looked at Olivia and smiled. She was bright red, shuffling her feet. “Well, Alpha, it seems I have gained a son-in-law and a werewolf at that.” T
The wind made me shiver and I opened up my eyes. Sitting up, I looked around. I was in the clearing by Olivia’s house. Blinking, I tried to think of what had happened. Alpha James’s sorry attempt at the Fey Queen. Seeing Olivia fight, willing to protect me and my pack. The kiss of her mother. Her fear and then lust. Pure unadulterated lust. I swallowed and looked next to me. Olivia was curled up on her side, as naked as I was. My eyes roamed her body but narrowed when I saw a shimmering against her skin. Leaning forward, I saw her entire body from the neck down was covered in a silvery threaded pattern. Her mate bond had bloomed. Bloomed and took over her entire body. My heart hammered in my chest. What had I done? Once smelling her heat, her arousal, I had lost it. We hadn’t figured out what we were going to do yet. I pinched the bridge of my nose. My urge was to run. To shift and just run away. Looking down at my sleeping mate’s body, I sighed. I couldn’t do that. My actio
