Chapter 3

Laura looked as Selene gobbled down the burger and the fries, and she could not help but smile. It was the first time she was seeing someone eat messily and neatly at the same time. She couldn’t describe the feeling.

It was only after Selene had had the last bite did she noticed Laura’s gaze on her. She smiled cheekily as she rolled her eyes.

“Sorry, I was really hungry that I ended up having no table manners.”

“It is okay. Are you done?”

“Yes, thank you so much. The goddess must have sent you here so that you could save her devotee.” Selene mumbled.

“What did you just say?”

“Ah, it's nothing. I don’t know how to thank you. You are a lifesaver. May every desire of your heart be fulfilled.” Selene said with a smile.

Her smile was so beautiful that Laura felt as if she had been blinded. She swore that she had never seen someone so beautiful before.

She was not someone who liked to associate herself with strangers, but somehow, she felt drawn to this strange woman.

“Come on, let’s go.”

“Sure,” Selene nodded happily. Now that she had filled her stomach, her mood had somehow returned, although the pain in her heart had not subsided.

As they walked along the busy road, Laura looked at Selene and asked, “What is your name?”

“Ah, I totally forgot to introduce myself. I am Selene.”

“Selene,” Laura mumbled the strange name. Although it was strange and she had never heard of it before, she felt like the name was really beautiful.

Seeing that she was not saying anything, Selene looked at her with a curious gaze, “Is something wrong with my name?”

Laura came back to her senses, “Ah, no. I have never heard anyone with that name, and that was why.”

‘Of course, you’ve never heard someone with that name. After all, I don’t really come from your world.’ Selene mumbled.

Seeing that her mood had suddenly changed, Laura thought that it might be because of what she said. She looked at her and smiled, “I didn’t mean anything by it. I actually find it rather beautiful and enchanting. I am Laura, by the way.”

Selene looked up and smiled, “You have a beautiful name, I love it.”

“Thank you,” Laura said. She felt her face heat up, and she did not understand what was happening.

She awkwardly cleared her throat before she asked, “You don’t seem to be from around here. Where do you come from?”

Selene fell silent after hearing that question. She was from the supernatural world, and this was the human world. She did not know if it was safe to reveal her secret to Laura just yet, since they had just met.

Laura had saved her, and she had even bought her food. She was the first person to ever show her kindness.

Selene thought about it before she decided to reveal the truth. She had nothing to lose, and she honestly felt like any relationship should be built on trust and honesty.

She looked at Laura and started to narrate her story, “I don’t know if you will believe me, but I am not from this world. Let’s just say that I am not entirely human.”

Laura looked at her with a shocked expression, “What do you mean?”

“Have you ever heard of the supernatural world, werewolves, witches, vampires?”

Laura nodded her head, “I have read it in books. But aren’t they just fictions and myths?”

“No, dear, it is very real.” Selene looked at her and said.

Laura shook her head, “That can’t be. You mean to say that wolves actually exist in this world?”

“Yep.” Selene nodded.

Laura looked at her like she had just heard the funniest joke of the year.

Selene did not know how to convince her. She could not call out her wolf, Kara, because she was still hurting from the rejection.

“Then what are you doing here?”

“It is a long story, and I don’t wish to talk about it,” Selene said, her mood turning sour.

Remembering how the man had cruelly rejected her, just the thought of it made her scalp tingle. It was the pain she never wished to experience again.

But she had to move on with her life, and this city would be her perfect starting point. She never wants to go back to that damn pack again!

“Laura, I know that we just met, and we are strangers to each other, but I trust my instincts, and I can tell that you are a nice person. So, I will just be honest with you.”

Nine months later…

“Girl, can you even make it to the hospital?” Laura asked as she held Selene’s hand. Her water had just broken, and they had to rush to the hospital.

Selene endured the discomfort in her body as she looked at Laura, “Just grab the hospital bag for me. We will make it.”

Her one night with Alpha Killian had resulted in her being pregnant. She had been so devastated when she found out, and she even wanted to get rid of the baby, but Laura reminded her of something.

This baby was totally innocent, and it was not right to let him pay for the sins his father had committed, so she had to keep him and raise him.

Also, during the pregnancy, Selene had felt her powers awaken; she did not know why she had a feeling that she was no ordinary wolf. Something in her always seemed to want to break free, and she had to suppress it every time because she did not know what it was, and whether she would be able to control it.

She had already found a life in the human world, and she did not dare compromise that.

When they reached the hospital, Selene was taken to the labor room, and soon, the cry of the baby was heard.

It happened to be the full moon, and the moment the baby made his first cry, the moon brightened. It was as if it was celebrating the birth of its descendant.

Laura looked at the little pups in Selene’s arms and almost cried, “Babe, I have never seen a newborn this beautiful. Just look at his hands, my goodness, he is so cute.”

“Thank you.”

The doctor came and looked at Selene, “Congratulations on the birth of your son. I must say, he is one special baby; his heartbeat is very strong, and his mind has almost fully developed. It is very rare to see such cases.”

When Selene heard the doctor, she thought, ‘He is an Alpha baby, so how could he be normal?’

At Wolfbourne city…

Killian had already been crowned as the Alpha of Silvermoon pack. He had also been engaged to Lyra, the daughter of the Bluemoon pack alpha, but somehow, he could not bring himself to mark her as his Luna, let alone consummate their relationship.

For the past few months, he had been having strange dreams. He seemed to have slept with someone, but something seemed to be blocking his memories, and he could not tell who the person was. But he could sense that that person was very important to him.

He could only see a fading silhouette in his mind, and every time he tried to grab it, it vanished.

Killian was signing a document when his pen snapped in half for some unknown reason.

His wolf became restless, and it was as if he wanted to come out.

Although it was the full moon and most wolves find it hard to control themselves because of the moon pull, Killian was of the alpha bloodline, and such things had little effect on him.

He could perfectly control his wolf even on the full moon, but today, his wolf seemed to want to be in control.

“Darren, what is the matter? Why are you so restless?”

“Killian, I don’t know either. I feel like we have lost something significant to us, but I can’t quite put my finger on it.”

The moment his wolf was done talking, Killian felt a stifling feeling in his heart. It was the same feeling he had felt the day Selene accepted his rejection, and he could not tell where it came from.

He grabbed his chest, and his breathing became ragged.

His beta, Andrew, entered just at the time to see his alpha with such a pained expression on his face.

“Alpha, what is wrong? Are you okay?”

Killian was about to say something, but the suffocating feeling suddenly vanished. It was as if it were just an illusion.

What was happening to him? Why was this full moon so different?

Killian was awake instantly, already at her side.“Is it time?” he asked. She breathed through the sensation and shook her head. “Not yet, but soon. They are just being mischievous.”He helped her sit up, his movements careful, like he had practiced it a million times. They had prepared for this moment in every way they could, yet the weight of it still pressed gently against his heart.Later that day, Selene gathered the healers and midwives. There was calm in her voice, but also quiet excitement.“The twins will arrive before the next full moon,” she said. “Everything must be ready.”Word spread quickly, not as gossip, but as joy. Wolves smiled openly. Gifts began appearing outside their door. Small charms, blankets, and carved wooden toys.Elenar stood watching it all, arms crossed. “They already have an entire pack protecting them,” he said.Selene reached for his hand. “A

It meant awareness, and it meant listening closely to small changes before they grew into storms. That morning, she stood at the edge of the eastern woods, her fingers brushing the bark of an old oak tree. The land whispered back to her in familiar ways. The spirits were calm, but there was movement beneath the surface, like water flowing under ice.Killian stood nearby with two guards, giving her space but never leaving her unprotected.“The ground feels restless,” Selene said softly. “Not dangerous, just unsettled.”“From the Ridge packs?” Killian asked.“Partly,” she replied. “But this is older than politics. It is the land adjusting to long peace after long violence.”A faint shimmer moved between the trees. Elenar noticed it too, his hand tightening around the wooden staff he carried.“I see it,” he said. “It looks like a spirit trail.”Selene nodde

The pack had grown stronger, united under Selene’s guidance as Luna and Killian’s steady leadership as Alpha.Selene sat on the porch of their home, her hand resting gently on her rounded belly. There was a new generation of hope, already growing strong inside her. Killian stood behind her, arms wrapped around her waist, his chin resting on her shoulder.“Can you believe it?” he asked softly. “After everything, we made it here.”Selene smiled, leaning into him. “I am still wondering just how lucky we are. But we are only here because we fought together. Through every trial, every danger… it brought us here.”Elenar ran across the yard, laughter filling the air. “Mama! Papa! Selene crouched behind a thick tree trunk, her breath slow and controlled as she watched the largest of her mother’s camps spread across the valley below.Torches burned along the perimeter, their flames twisting and snapping in the night air. Rows of tents stood in tight formation, and wolves moved between them with practiced purpose. At a distance, it looked disciplined, organized, and powerful. But Selene saw what others could not.She saw the hesitation in their movements. The way some followers avoided the glowing ritual marks carved into the ground. The way others whispered to each other when they thought no one was listening. Fear held this camp together, not loyalty.Killian knelt beside her, his presence solid and steady. His eyes followed the same patterns she tracked, already reading the terrain like a second skin.“Are you ready for this?” he asked quietly.Selene did not lo

If anything, they sharpened her awareness. She knew her mother well enough to understand that retreat did not mean defeat. It meant adjustment. It meant planning something darker, faster, and far more dangerous.Every pack that had fallen under her mother’s influence carried fragments of knowledge Selene had yet to uncover. Pieces of ritual lore, fractured loyalties, and half-truths whispered in desperation. Together, they formed a threat that could not be ignored.Selene stood atop a narrow ridge, gazing down into the valley below. The river clans moved freely now, their fear eased for the
