Moon Phase 11: Attempt

(EL’s POV)

I was pacing myself back and forth at my study room, my hands inside my pocket. Why is Lupoz going to be my next Mentor?

"Don't worry Young Lord, I'm just your temporary tutor." he placed a stack of books on my desk. Uncle Rankin already made me answer all of these. Is this a retake? Tss. He's just wasting my time.

I miss Uncle Rankin.

"Should we dismiss our class early, Lupoz?" while I finished his tasks quicker than he might expected.

"We need to stick to your schedule, Young lord." panickily don’t know what to do with the time with me. I picked up some books.

"We're already done with this, and this " I flung the books back to their shelves perfectly. I smiled. I remembered Uncle Rankin used to do that.

"How about wolf martial arts sparring, Lupoz? Oh right! You're not a wolf, that would be a great challenge." I teased him.

“Young lord, the Grand Alpha has given this specific task only. Teaching you academically.” I sighed.

"I wonder who's going to replace Uncle Rankin." I had one in my mind, the only one I thought worthy enough to take his place was my father.

I get up to my seat. Smiling devilishly at Lupoz. He can’t do anything when I dismiss myself, voluntarily. Kinda bored scrolling books and I really need a physical challenge.

When I went out, while massaging my neck and stretching my limbs. I came across the two wolves assigned to guard the humans. They nodded to my direction, and bow. I passed them and overheard their conversation;

"My head still hurts. Are you sure that medicine was effective?"

I remembered those lines from my mother, she was talking to my father's secretary, Lupoz.

"It will take effect shortly, madam." Lupoz maybe given something to her.

(Dr. Albert Curie’s POV)

Samantha's fever was getting worse. She's depressed and it must have triggered her condition to worsen.

"Try to eat something Samantha. I'll think of a way for us to escape. You need your strength."

I handed her the food I prepared for her. She fixed her pillow and stacked them so she could be able to eat properly, a tear fell on her cheeks.

I stood up and observed the structure of our room once more. The window was highly elevated above the nearest ground, going there would be a complete suicide. Two guards are always on patrol outside the door. There has to be a way to escape, think...

Bribing the guards would be a waste of time, they are known to be very loyal to their alpha.

I could make a fume out of the chemicals from the laboratory, we could use it to make the guards unconscious. Yes, this is something I’m good at, we could use my skill of mixing chemical substances to escape this place. There was no time to waste. I started brewing the Chemicals and waited for the right moment.

When the night fell, I called out the guards assigned outside the door.

"I have some requests for the Grand Alpha!" I called out.

As soon as the two guards entered the room, I threw the bottles of mixture at them. They grimaced in pain when it hit their face, but it didn't make them unconscious. They screamed and went wild.

My wife was at the kitchen and was behind them when she hit one of the guards on the head, knocking the wolf down. I took the knife from the table and stabbed the other. As a scientist, cutting through the skin wasn't new to me. But stabbing the werewolf was definitely different than any of my past surgeries.

We quickly took off the guards' clothes and put it to ourselves for disguise. Werewolves have keen sense of smell so we needed their scent to cover ours. I dragged the guards one after the other on the bed and fixed their positions to look as if we were asleep. I covered them with the blanket. This would give us more time to escape.

This morning, I had the privilege to remember the way out. My wife quietly followed me from behind, until we reached the garage. A few guards were on patrol. The gate was closed so we can't use any of the vehicles.

Suddenly, a security alarm went off from the tower we were held captives. I looked up to see that it was burning. The guards headed on that direction. I couldn't believe what I was seeing when someone leaped from the highest building. He landed unscathed just beside us.

The reckless man gave us the key to the car I was trying to open, he thought we were one of them. The gates opened up and I started the car immediately. I drove it out and we were on our way to get away from their territory as far as possible. I couldn't believe it, we were finally leaving this place. I was exalted with joy.

After a few hours of driving, the engine suddenly stopped. The car was out of gas. We had no other choice but to run.

"We need to go now Samantha." I told her full of worries. This is bad, really bad.

We ran to the woods guided by the somber light of the moon, both of us were breathing heavily. Thick clouds slowly covered our only light. Making our trail harder to navigate. It rained down and made our hands slippery to hold each other.

She embraced me when we heard a wolf's howl, it sounded close. They must have tracked our scents; hunting is really in their nature.

I was starting to get more scared, especially for my wife's safety. They will soon find us if I can't think of something to loose ourselves from their noses.

I heard a gushing of water a few paces away from us, a river! We could run towards it to cover our scents. Right? There's only one way to find out.

But we were stunned when a fully transformed werewolf jumped in front of us. That stab wound on his side. I noticed it right away. I'm responsible for that, I did it to one of the guard a while ago. Our situation couldn't get any worse by now.

We can't escape this creature; Werewolf are immensely faster than us. I held out my hand and begged for mercy.

He was about to devour us when another figure tackled him. He was sent a few meters away down to the river. The Alpha's men quickly surrounded us. With a flash of a lightning, the one who saved us revealed himself to us.

The Grand Alpha.

The mad looking werewolf stood back to its hind legs and rushed back at our direction. In a blink of an eye, blood splattered all over us.

The alpha ripped its head off with one swing of his claws. The blood gushed out and mixed the river water.

He grinned at us.

"That's an example of an uncontrollable werewolf, Dr. Curie. We're now desperate to find for our cure. So help us." Those were his words despite our attempt of escaping.

I could already see the city lights from here. Somehow, I was still hoping for the vampires to come and rescue us.

We headed back and was confined in a different room; they made the security tighter. I was already exhausted and didn't bother to look around. I decided to take a seat and study the documents they gave me. The infected werewolves looses control of their minds, it was clear to me that the disease is preventing their brain to function normally. Its their brain that I need to focus my research on.

I was starting to jot down my observations on a notebook when Samantha entered the room.

"You're making a mistake again Albert! This wouldn't have happened if you didn't accept the vampires' request in the first place!"

"We have no choice Samantha. Have you seen what these creatures are capable of doing? I'm sorry but this is the only way of leaving this place."

"They're just using us! Just like the vampires who used you! Where do you picture us after this? No one will accept us anymore!" She was ranting her frustrations away.

I wrapped my arms around her, she's completely upset and tired from our failed attempt of escaping. I am too Samantha.

To ease my wife's fears, and also mine... I kissed her lips and placed her on the bed. We needed to divert all our worries away even for a bit. We deserved this, after all the things that happened tonight.

(Leneth's POV)

I kicked the vending machine out of frustration. Well, apparently, nothing's changed, vampires still treat us nothing more than a garbage. I'm willing to offer my neck and turn me into one of them, but he declined?! I hate it!

The Curies disappearance where all over the news, they probably decided to escape from this judging society. I would've done the same thing if I was Samantha. It would be better for her if his husband never finds out what happened to her. That bitch!

Why did the pure blooded vampire only lusted for her. Tss...
