Moon Phase 10: It's a good game son

(Dr. Albert Curie's POV)

They opened the door, werewolves were captured and kept inside cages with huge bars made of silver.

The beasts were going wild, they growled and howled in their cages around us.

"They are restless. They are looking for bloodshed. But Nothing to worry, the cages are completely safe." The alpha said. His adviser, Lupoz, nodded at us.

"We compiled a document for you to study what caused them to act like this." Lupoz said.

"You're going to ask us to find a cure for these monsters?! These creatures have killed many humans! Just kill them already! There is no justice for these filthy creatures!" Blurted by my wife.

"Samantha." I looked at her. She needs to be resting by now.

"Assist them to their room." Lupoz ordered one of the assistants. "We understand that you need to rest now, Mr. Curie, especially your wife." We followed the assistant they gave order. I smiled but filled with frustration.

I guess this is it. We were hopeless. We have no choice but to do what they want.

The elevator opened and a fine room appeared before us. They left us but locked the door from the outside. I looked outside the window; I could see the mansion's roof from our room.

"Albert." called Samantha. "What are we going to do? Don't tell me you're going to do what they want."

"We don't have a choice." while trying to open the window, it was hopeless. The room was arranged for someone to stay in it for a long time. There were three doors in the room, one door led to a laboratory which will serve our workplace.

"Albert, this is not good." she looked so worried. I nodded at her. We have to accept our current situation, and I don't want to say that again to my wife. She came towards me and saw the laboratory. She hugged me tightly and started to cry on my chest.

"The vampires will rescue us."

I know they won't, but I would like to give my wife a little hope, something for her to hold.

I could see the moon still shining from the window. Wolves howls could be heard also, they sounded grieving.

We never wish for this kind of adventure. All we want is peace.

(EL’s POV)

I stared outside my window, I noticed something new to my eyes, the tower's window were lit, it was located at the east wing of the mansion. Because of its remote access, no one usually goes there, but the Human Couple's presence made us turn the place into their laboratory.

"Young Lord EL, the Grand Alpha summoned your presence." I turned my back at the window and headed to my father, he seemed annoyed by the constant noise of his wife.

I took a seat. A chessboard laid in front of us. Its pieces were all perfectly arranged and set.

We could still hear Tasha's complains about the lack of attention my father was giving her. I wouldn't be surprised if she starts breaking stuffs again.

Last time, she broke the antique vase displayed in their room. Sigh. Is woman like this all the time? Headache?

I was sitting on the side where the white pieces were placed. I moved the pawn to give way for my bishop, my father knew what I had in mind, he was quick to counter my moves.

"Tyros!"

"What?! I'll be there with you shortly, and I'll remind you how much of a whore you are." I couldn't hold my smile. This made Tasha stop. I guess she was successful making my father angry at her. She was obviously excited about what's going to happen later.

He smiled and moved his knight. We were now pouring our attention to the game, only the sound of the wooden pieces against the board could be heard. And for the tenth time he has beaten me again.

"It's a good game son." Signaling that we're done. I smiled and breathe deeply. Someday, I'll beat him. He gave me a simple smiled. A cold breeze of air entered the open terrace and we both turned our heads to look at the moon. Its light shone the lonely night.

"The war has already begun, Son." this made me pause my breathing momentarily. "The vampires have convinced the humans that we are the enemy. And because of that, they gave the vampires new ability to use against us. The number of their attacks will rise in the coming days. I need you to be ready at all times." he took down the knight using his king.

In every war fought, A king can always be a threat.

(Dr. Albert’s POV)

I could tell that my wife was having trouble falling asleep, she kept on changing her position while we lied on the bed. But she managed to make herself comfortable enough to sleep later on. Our current situation is harder compared to our stint with the vampires. She is certainly wishing to get out of this place. I got up and headed to the laboratory. I was looking for something we could use for escaping. Until, someone was knocking on the door, it opened shortly after.

"Dr. Curie, the grand Alpha would like to have a talk. Please follow me." I looked at my wife, she's still asleep. "Don't worry Mr. Curie, nothing bad will happen to your wife." I trusted his words, the alpha knows that if something bad happens to my wife, our deal would be over.

We went outside and he guided me to a patio. I was greeted with a gentle breeze, the dew drops flickered on the grass. The Grand Alpha was sitting in front of a big wooden table. Lupoz was standing beside him. I was still wondering why he joined the wolves to be their ally.

Then I remembered why his face was familiar to me. He was one of the Vampires who led the rebellion a few years ago. The Vampire council ordered for his execution using the machine they commissioned me to build, but he managed to escape with the help of some werewolves.

His eyes were staring right through mine, probably reading my thoughts. I casually looked away.

"Take a seat." Lupoz offered. "I hope you had a good rest, Dr. Curie." I didn't respond to him.

One of the maids handed me a tea. I just ignored it.

"Is your wife feeling better now? I hope you two adjust well in this place." Lupoz continued. I'm sure he remembers me. I'm one of the people who was assigned to conduct the operation to kill him. They are the type of creatures who doesn't easily forget things.

"We won't last a week in this place." I finally said something.

"Good to hear, because your only way out is the serum which you must create for us. One week? Not bad." he tapped my shoulder, not sure if he's mocking.

The alpha was busily browsing through some papers, he gave it to his assistant after he's done.

"We're looking forward for your success, Dr. Curie. Our future lies in your hands." the alpha looked at me and took a sip on his tea.

"We can provide all the things you need for the project but be sure to use them only for making the serum." said Lupoz. "Or we will kill your wife. And after that, we will search for your relatives and have them executed too." he threatened. Tss. This old prune won't shut up.

"No. That's a mistake Lupoz." the woman from last night showed herself again. "Don't you know that a wife is the most precious to any husband? Save the best for last. Kill their relatives first before his wife."

"Indeed Miss Tasha, that's an excellent notion." I scowled at them. Their behavior was worse than the Alpha's. It's ironic to witness this human woman and vampire acting more uncivilized than the wolf.

"Are we making ourselves clear Mr. Curie?" Mocked Lupoz.

"Do I have a choice?" I stood up and asked to be escorted back to my wife.

She was still asleep when I returned.

"Dr. Curie, the grand alpha ordered us to deliver you these." two servants followed me, they were holding groceries. He must've thought that we won't be eating the foods they will prepare for us.

After the servants left, I placed the supplies in the fridge. It was stacked with everything we needed. Everything was looking fresh. It's been a while since I cooked something for my wife. So, I looked for something to prepare for her. Until I heard her scream. It caused me to drop the knife.

"Samantha?" I rushed towards her. She had a nightmare.

"We must leave this place Albert." She pleaded with tears in her eyes, I admit I am hopeless to grant her wish. I wrapped my arms around her, to make her feel that I am here beside her. That’s the only thing I can do.
