I wore my uniform back on, putting on my worn out slippers as I walked out of my room and up the stairs to the hall where some maids stood, waiting for the head maid to come.

I took my position in the line, my hand strapped behind my back. My eyes scanned the hall, watching the other maids race into the hall.

We didn’t have to wait long when we heard the familiar footsteps of the head Maid, walking into the hall, but she wasn’t alone.

She had walked in with two massive men and a lady. The three of them stood behind her while her eyes peered round the room.

Taking her time, she carefully inspects each and every one of us, occasionally nodding her head and the lady behind her would jot down something on a piece of paper without any of them uttering a word.

That was one of their gifts, they were able to communicate through their mind.

You might be wondering, how did I know this. It was all thanks to Tatiana, I had no clue how she was able to know so much about them, but she did. It was like she was watching every move of them.

I kept my head down like the rest of the maid, you could smell the tension in the air since none of the beast were saying anything.

“ Heads up.” Madam Perrine ordered, and we complied, lifting our heads up. “ Like I told you yesterday, there will be a routine change done today.” She starts, her cold eyes scanning us as she paces up and down In front of us, both hands put at her back.

“ Some of you would remain working here, going back to your old jobs. While the lucky few would be sent to the King’s Palace.”

Lucky few!

She can’t be serious, right?

How is being sent to the King’s Palace an act of luck or any form of privilege. It was a death sentence to us humans because only a few make it past the first day before they end up being killed or killed themselves.

So how could she stand there spitting those words to our face, like we should be grateful and gravel at their feet.

Yet again, here was i screaming inwardly. My hand formed a fist behind my back and my jaw clenched.

I looked back towards the head maid and found her glancing at me. Her eyes stayed on me for some time and I was sure I had ceased breathing.

I could feel my palm being too sweaty, and I unclutched it, resisting the urge to rub it on my dress.

She snapped her gaze away from me, looking back to the centre of the room, and she cleared her throat, preparing to speak again.

“ We are yet to decide who will be going and who is to stay, but hopefully the decision will be made before the end of the day.” There was a small pause. “ Carry on with your work, and you would be called back when it’s time for the announcement to be made. You are all dismissed.”

Just as she had come into the room, she left with the three beasts trailing behind her. The moment they were out of sight, there was another outbreak of conversation amongst the maids, and just like yesterday, I was left alone by myself.

I stood there rooted in my spot, watching as the rest of the maids communicated with each other, expressing their fear of being chosen as a maid in the King’s Palace.

Deciding it was best to have breakfast and start the day’s work, instead of pondering about where I would be assigned to or not.

There were up to a thousand human maids in the Palace in general, so the chance of me getting picked would be 0000.01 percent.

I have been here since birth and I never got picked, so I doubt I would now.

The kitchen, like the hall room, was filled with chatters. The maids made guesses among themselves who was likely to get selected and who wasn’t.

Like usual, I stayed out of it, not joining in their chatter while devouring the bread and tea given to us.

Breakfast went by faster, so I carried on with my task for the day, not bothered about the routine. I am confident I won’t get selected.

I was tasked to help assist in the kitchen for the day, which meant I was in charge of doing the dishes. I did the dishes while those in charge of cooking prepared food for the Royal, consisting mostly of meat.

By the time I was done washing the plates, the cooks began making lunch, yet the talk about the King’s Palace still carried on

“ I don’t think I would mind being taken to the King’s Palace.” One of the maids says, cutting the vegetables. “ Carrie’s cousin’s friend’s sister was assigned to the King’s Palace two years ago, and she won’t stop gushing to Carrie’s how handsome the king was. He has not only his kind, but also the female humans swooning after him, trying to get him to notice them.”

“ I would be quiet if I were you.” The maid beside her says, nudging her shoulders. She points towards Saoirse, who was clearly listening in on their conversation. Her lips pursed down in a frown, a dead glare sent to the maid who had been talking.

I rolled my eyes, looking at how dramatic and equally stupid she was being right now. It was obvious she was making a claim on the devil king when she wasn’t even certain if she would get selected or not.

Not that I mind. At least if she does get chosen, then we wouldn’t have to worry about seeing her again.

“ What appears to be amusing, Micaela.” Saoirse’s cold tone brought me out of my thoughts. I didn’t realize my lips were raised in a smirk, with the rest of the maids staring at me.

“ no.....nothing.” I stuttered out, keeping my head down.

That was who I was, a coward. I couldn’t stand up to myself, except rant about it in my head.

“ Thought so.” She scoffed, sending the maid one last glare before storming out of the kitchen.

  • Alpha King's Human Mate   EPILOGUE

"Come on, sweetie, I know you are excited, but you need to sit down if you want to meet Alec." I said this to my daughter as I braided her hair."Okay, mummy," she says, giggling at the funny faces her brother makes in the mirror."Can you hand me that, Aida, love?" I asked my other daughter, pointing towards the red ribbon beside her."Yes, mummy," her small voice said, picking up the ribbon and handing it to me. I tie the end of the braid, kissing the top of Ayah's head. It's been twelve years since our fight with Omelia ended with victory, and ten years since I gave birth to Aelius, Orpheus and my son. To say there hadn’t been ups and downs during these ten years would be an understatement, but we were able to scale through. Two years after Omelia was captured, news of her death reached our ears. Her mental health had deteriorated so significantly that she was placed in a mental institute. But she only got worse and worse, up until her passing.Joanne, on the other hand, left the

  • Alpha King's Human Mate   SAYING GOODBYES

Godiva's Pov ( Night of Josiana’s Wedding.)"She looks really beautiful." Micaela gushes from beside me as we both stare at Josiana, who was wrapped in Daniel's embrace. As they both danced together, their gazes locked on each other, the rest of the world seemed to be out of existence."She really does; they look so happy." I said. I felt happy for them but, at the same time, couldn’t help but let out a sad smile. I wondered if I would ever get to feel something like this or have what Josiana and Micaela had.I sighed, turning to look at Micaela, only to find her already staring at me, the look on her face unreadable." What...""How long will you keep pushing Kyros to the side?" She asked, her eyes shifting to where he stood a couple of distances behind me before returning back to me. "That man is madly in love with you.""Maybe, but he might feel that way because of the mating bond.""You and I know that is not true." She counters. "This is far from the mate bond, and you know that

  • Alpha King's Human Mate   CONTRACTIONS

MICAELA’S POV."Ah!" I gasped, and my eyes closed. The contractions started at midnight. Earlier, they came at slow intervals, but now they were coming at shorter intervals." Micaela!" Joanne said as she clutched my hand. Her brows furrowed, and I could tell she was extremely worried and wanted to give me comfort. "Do you want me to use my power? It will numb your pains while you give birth."I shake my head as the contractions pass. My face was pale, my hair clung to my forehead as sweat beaded. Orpheus, who was sitting on the other side of the bed, was watching with pure terror in his eyes. Every time I would shriek because of the contraction, he would start pacing the room. His eyes would flicker every now and then, letting me know he was shifting to his wolves before returning back to himself."Micaela," he called out to me in a soft voice. "Why don’t you let Joanne help you? I can’t bear seeing you go through such pain," he said with a strained voice, coming over towards me. His

  • Alpha King's Human Mate   WEDDING BELLS

I spent the rest of the day preparing for the wedding. I was glad that everything was over and that Daniel and I could finally be together. Though I had been surprised when he told me who Micaela was to him, at the same time I was glad to know she was family, not that she hadn’t been. She and Godiva are family to me, but knowing she was going to be my sister-in-law made me ten times happier. With a smile on my face, I turned my attention to the door when I heard a knock."Come in!" I yelled. With only a few short hours to go until the wedding, my nerves were starting to get the best of me."Hey, how is it going?" Micaela asked, walking in with Godiva, who had a box of makeup in her arms, while Micaela held onto a black bag with what I’m guessing was my wedding dress."Micaela, Godiva," I said, rising from my seat and giving them both a hug. "I’m so glad you both are here; heaven knows my nerves are getting the best of me." I said, letting out a deep breath."Trust me, I know how that

  • Alpha King's Human Mate   JUST THE TWO OF US

I was standing close to the window, taking in the beautiful sight of the rain, when the door to the bedroom opened and Orpheus walked in.His footsteps echo through the floor, stopping behind me with his hands wrapped around my waist, his head resting at the crock of my neck while his hands rested on my stomach." Hey." I said it softly, pulling my head to the side to give him more room." Hi." He whispers gently, taking a deep breath."How did it go?""Exactly how I expected it to go." He replies. "You know, after everything she has done, I can’t help but feel this ache in my heart. I’m not sure if it’s right to feel this way, and I can’t help but beat myself up for even feeling a bit of remorse for her."I pulled away from his hold, turning to look at his dejected face. Both my hands cupped his cheeks, and his wrapped around my waist."Despite the kind of person Omelia is, she still birthed you. It’s understandable if you feel hurt; she was the only family you had."Orpheus sighed,

  • Alpha King's Human Mate   IN A HEARTBEAT

Orpheus Pov"Open the gate," I command, staring at the guards in front of the dungeon. I wanted to confirm the news given to me; I needed to see it for myself before believing it to be true."Yes,, your Majesty." One of the guards stationed at the door says as he bows, pulling the door of the dungeon open.I stepped in with Loukas and Kyros trailing behind me, causing me to halt my step. I turned to look at them. "I can handle this myself; why don’t you both carry on with other things?"Kyros and Loukas both looked at each other sceptically, worry visible on both their faces. "Are you sure, Orpheus? She isn’t quite well; do you think you can handle seeing her alone?" Loukas asked."Maybe, maybe not. But I can’t avoid this any longer. I need to put it all behind me." I answered. It was quiet for a while, and they both bowed, making their way away from the dungeon.Letting out a sigh, I made my way down the dark tunnel of the dungeon. I couldn’t help but recall the last time I had been
