I walked over to the trays of hardened bread and cold tea. Taking bread from it as I scooped it down as fast as I could.

Holding back the vomit that threatened to come out, I drank the cold disgusting tea, washed out my cup and I set out to work. I hurried down the steps, scurried through the crowded hall that was getting filled with other servants doing their daily work.

I walked over to the cleaning room, taking out my cleaning tools before making my way back to the steps of the castle, walking to the fifth floor where I and some kitchen maid had been assigned to work.

I huffed, walking towards the first room for the day. I knocked on the door, resting the side of my face on it, hearing to see if anyone was in there.

I opened the door slowly, my eyes cast down. After being certain that no one was in the room with me, i lifted my head up.

A weak sigh left my mouth when I saw how messy the room was. A frown formed on my face and I began picking up the clothes on the floor and bed, placing them on the couch to be sorted later.

I carried on picking the trash on the floor, putting them Into the trash can I had brought In with me?

I dusted the bed, fixing it before walking back to the clothes, selecting the ones that needed to be washed, then putting the rest back where they were supposed to be.

In the closet.

I swept the floor, putting the rest of the things thrown on the floor in their rightful places before walking Into the bathroom.

Holding back a gag, I reached for the lavatory, ceasing my breath as I unclogged it, flushing it off.

I moved to the sink, washing my hands off. A look of pure disgust danced around my face.

“I should be used to this.” I whispered to myself again. I finished up with the first room, I hurried along to the remaining six rooms I had to clean up. Knowing I needed to be fast before the royal came back, which would be disastrous if any of us were found still in the room.

I stopped by the maid’s small room where the maids usually gathered to see who I was to assist since it was already dark outside.

My headache, I felt my legs begging to give out, to rest. But I didn’t, I couldn’t. I need to get my work done before nine pm unless I won’t be getting any food for the night.

I took my brush, along with five other maids, and we started sweeping the ballroom. I took in a few deep breaths, placing a hand at the back of my neck to ease the stiffness I felt.

Taking in another deep breath, I inhaled and exhaled, relaxing a little while carrying on working.

By the time we were finally done with cleaning the ballroom, it was already 8:30 pm. We hurried out of the hall back to the kitchen, where our dinner was laid.

Like the morning breakfast, we were served cold, tasteless porridge. We all gathered around, taking an old rusted bowl given to us as we lined up in order for the head maid to serve us our dinner.

We walked out of the kitchen to a small tiny lounge room where other maids gathered to eat. Taking a seat on the ground at the far end of the room away from the others, I slowly drank my soup.

“ Who do you think will be taken to the King’s Palace tomorrow. “ A soft voice whispered a few sits from me to her friend beside her. I instantly recognized the two, Roselani and Saoirse, they weren’t the kind of people any of the maids would want to associate or trust as they won’t think twice to betray you.

“ I, personally, won’t mind being sent to the King’s Palace.” Saoirse said. A smirk on her face like she had everything all planned out.

“ Are you crazy, why would you want to do that?.” Roselani Whispered, looking at her friend like she had lost her mind.

I sat in the dim room, pretending not to be listening to their conversation, taking another bite of the horrible porridge.

“ I intend to get the attention of the king.” Saoirse said again in a cocky tone, filled with confidence. “ With the king by my side, no one would ever look down on me.”

“ I don’t know if that’s going to work, Saoirse, this could go so wrong In numerous ways. You know what the rumour says about him, Saoirse. He shows no mercy.” Roselani Voice quivered at the end of her words.

Even I knew Saoirse plan was down right idiotic. Who in their right mind throws themselves on a psychotic, crazy bastard. It was like asking for a death wish on a silver platter.

I stopped listening to their conversation, drinking the soup on time before the head maid came to dissolve us for the night.

I dropped the bowl down as the door swung open, and Madam Perrine stood there with her usual scorn on her face.

“ Don’t forget to do your dishes and be in your room before ten. Is that clear.?” She asked in an authority voice.

“ Yes, Madam Perrine.”

She scorned at us one last time, walking out of the room as I stood up with the rest of the maid.

We walked back to the kitchen, doing our dishes, putting the bowl back in the worn out rack, and we made our way to our respective rooms.

I looked around the room that always managed to give me warmth, getting rid of my clothes until I was bare naked. We were given less clothes and most of them were maid uniforms . This was one of the reasons why I started sleeping naked.

Making sure to bolt the door locked, as I didn’t want anyone coming in. I walked over to the bow of water, washing my face. Puffing out a breath, I climbed into the hard rock bed, drifting off to sleep.

"Eli…jah, wh…at are you doing?" I asked, falling to the floor.Elijah bends, picking me up in a bridal style. "I’m really sorry, Micaela; I wish I had other choices. I hope one day you and Orpheus find it in your hearts to forgive me, but for now, I’ve got to do what’s best for my family.""Where are you taking me?" My head lolled over his arm as he carried me down the hallway in the opposite direction of the main stairs.Elijah kicked one of the panels at the end of the passageway, revealing a secret stairway. In my haze, I couldn't help but wonder if Orpheus knew about this.Elijah carried me easily as he hurried down the five flights of stairs, skirting around the palace while remaining hidden in the shadows.“Good, you’ve got her," a deep voice said. "I was beginning to think you changed your mind." A man stepped forward from the darkness. I shake off the blurriness, trying to get a proper look at his face.A very familiar scar ran down from above his left eye."It's not like I ha

  • Alpha King's Human Mate   SAFEST PLACE TO BE

Orpheus and I stood at the entrance of the palace; he had suggested taking a walk to help get my mind off things. It has been four days since the trial, with the second and last set to take place tomorrow. There hasn’t been any news concerning Omelia since the night she appeared. It was like she had vanished all over again, and though Loukas has been keeping an eye on Neve, there hasn’t been any change or any indication that she might know where Omelia is.Orpheus's hand on mine brought me out of my thoughts, and I smiled at him as we made our way into the woods. Once we got in, he made his way to a tree, emerging minutes later as Sliver. He walks over to me, his height towering over mine, before leaning for me to get on his back. I did as he instructed, holding tightly to his as he ran through the woods. The cold breeze of the night fanned against my skin, causing a tingle around my body.I wasn’t sure for how long we ran, but I was having a blast. Orpheus came to a stop, halting in

"Any update yet?" I asked Loukas, who was standing beside me."Not yet." He responds. "All she does is stay home with the pups, and if she isn’t attending to them, then she is here in the palace. Only for a brief moment, or at her place of work. She hasn’t really done anything out of place, and earlier she seemed worried about Micaela when we were talking. She kept asking if Micaela was going to be okay or not. Are you really certain that Neve has turned on us and actually joined hands with your mother?" He asked, and I could hear the quaver in his voice and tell this was painful for him.It seemed he hadn’t come to terms with Neve's possible betrayer. It was understandable; after all, she was his mate. And the fact that we had all grown up together made it even more painful, knowing there was this big rift between us."Do you think she is aware of you monitoring her?" I asked, and Loukas shook his head."I doubt that." He says. "I have been very discreet."I sighed. "Let’s continue t

  • Alpha King's Human Mate   MAKE ME FORGET

I lay on the bed, wide awake and unable to sleep. The trial was a few hours away, and I couldn’t help but ponder if I was indeed making the right decision to go ahead with it or not.A part of me wants to be selfish, putting Orpheus and me first and our happiness first. But another part just couldn’t, knowing I wouldn't be able to do away with the guilt. I had a responsibility to uphold, even more so after what happened to Saoirse and Josiana.Taking a deep breath, I turned over to my side, my gaze resting on Orpheus’s sleepy form. His brows were creased together, and even in his sleep, I could tell he was worried.I reach over, gently tracing the curves of my mate's sleeping face. There's a light stubble over his cheeks, creating a roughness that I adore whenever he kisses me.His long lashes curl up at the end, framing his blue eyes that are peacefully closed. I leaned forward, pecking his forehead, before quietly slipping out of bed.Just like any other night these past few days, I

  • Alpha King's Human Mate   KEEPING A PROMISE

I growled, thinking about the outcome of the day. Micaela was already fast asleep when I returned back to the room, and I knew how much she needed it, seeing as she hasn’t been sleeping well these past few days. How dare they think they could come unannounced and make absurd accusations about Micaela?I gulped down a glass of whisky, slamming it down on the table hard, when a knock resounded from the door, and I growled out, Come in, causing the door to be pushed open and Loukas to walk in.He had a distressed look on his face, taking in the fury in mine."How is Micaela? Did something happen at the funeral?""Micaela is fine, and she is finally sleeping. And the funeral did go smoothly." I clarified."Then why do you look pissed?" He asked, taking a seat opposite me. "Does it have anything to do with the reappearance of your mother? Whistles have been filling the palace about her being here."I sighed, pouring myself another glass of whisky. "The Elders and Council of Men are plannin

  • Alpha King's Human Mate   AGAINST THE RULES

"Omelia." I voiced out after coming out of my shock. "What are you doing here?""What else would I be doing in the palace? I'm from the royal family, which means I have every right to be here.""Maybe, but why the sudden reappearance after disappearing for nearly four to five months now?" I asked with a raised brow, walking back to where Orpheus was, my gaze not shifting from her."I didn’t realise I was under some sort of interrogation." Omelia scoffs, giving me a hard glare.I guess some things will never change. Maybe a part of me thought the only reason she stayed away was because she felt guilty. But clearly, her resolve towards me still remained the same."I don’t know why you are here, but you are very much not welcome here." Orpheus spat out; his eyes hardened."I haven’t seen you for nearly five months, and the first thing you say is how unwelcoming I am here. You sure do know how to make your mother feel special.""Sadly, I don’t have one." Orpheus counters. "No mother would
