AMY'S POV

Once, when I was waiting tables at a pop-up store as a way to pick up some extra cash, I met an aspiring Broadway actor. His name was Nate, and he insisted we come see a show he was starring in.

All the other waitresses declined to go watch a new movie at the cinema. I couldn't afford to go with them, I was bored, plus I wasn't in such a hurry to go back home, so I went to the musty old building that he said it was taking place in.

The acting was surprisingly not bad, and the plot was spot on. I could relate to the main actress' struggles. It was the only thing that made me stay till the end.

After everything she went through, a rich prince came and swept her away from everything. That night, I went home with my heart full, and hope bloomed in my chest. Except, I wasn't looking for a man to save me. I was waiting for my admission letter from medical school to save me.

That was only nine months ago, and my situation hadn't improved much.

"What are we going to do?" Maddy said in the present moment, with wide eyes and a panicked expression. She was scared.

"Calm down." I told her, my heart racing a mile a minute. "Calm down. It's all going to work out." Assuring myself more than her.

It's not going to work out. About two hours ago, I had fainted, and my manager had contacted Maddy to come take me home. She did and suggested that I do a pregnancy test.

"Why do I have to take one?" I had asked stupidly as if I wasn't the one who had what I now remembered to be unprotected sex with a sexy stranger.

"Haven't you been more tired and moody lately?"

"Yes, but I figured it was because of the other stuff going on in my life."

"It could be or not. Humor me and take a test."

"Alright." I took a test, which, about twenty minutes ago, revealed that I was pregnant. I had been in a daze since then while my best friend resorted to panicking. It was her panic that jolted me out of my daze.

I knew the pregnancy was his. He was the only man I had slept with in a long time, so it made sense.

"What are you going to do?" Maddy asked for the nth time, and again, I drew blank. I didn't know what I was going to do.

"Maddy..."

"Wait, are you going to tell him?" She didn't know I had no way of contacting him. I didn't know his name. All I knew about him was that he was rich. He was powerful, and most importantly, he was a werewolf. I wasn't sure how, but he was. A powerful one at that.

"Well..."

"Maddy, calm down. I'm trying to wrap my head around it. I don't know what I'm going to do about it." I snapped, and she recoiled.

"I'm sorry."

"No, I'm sorry." I said. "You were only trying to help me."

"Do you want to have dinner with me before going home?'

"Yes." I wasn't hungry, but that would reassure her that I wasn't mad at her at all. If anything, she should be the one fed up with me. I stayed at her place for another hour before I finally decided to go back. She made me promise that I would not let myself be stressed and to not think too much about it.

"I won't." I smiled, but we both knew I was lying. With a sad smile, she let me go.

I was grateful that I had the house to myself for a while before my mother would stumble back from whatever bar or casino she was hitting tonight.

I chugged the milk in the fridge and ate a whole cucumber before escaping into my room.

Luckily for me, Tom allowed me back to work. I didn't tell anyone about my pregnancy because I was still trying to understand it myself. I hadn't decided what I was going to do with it.

"Are you sure you're fit to come back to work, Amy?" Martha, the oldest one of us, asked with genuine concern. I thought I would burst into tears, but I managed to hold it in.

"Yes, Martha. Why do you say so?"

"You've been staring into space every now and then. Do you need me to cover for you? I can do that while you rest."

"No, thank you, Martha." She was human, and she wouldn't understand why I simply couldn't leave my mother by herself. Even though this was the 21st century now, we wolves still upheld all the old laws of the land. My sense of pack belonging wouldn't let me abandon my mother.

She wouldn't even begin to understand my predicament, so I figured it was easier to just keep it to myself. I also resisted patting my belly. It was a dead giveaway that I was pregnant.

I managed to finish the rest of my shift without causing a ruckus. It was late at night when Tom locked up, and I was on my way home. With nothing other than my thoughts to distract me, I could no longer put off thinking about what to do.

Ab*rtion was something that was common, but it didn't sit well with me. This pregnancy has just set me back to square one. Even if one day I got tired of my mother and her constant problems, I wouldn't be able to leave easily anymore.

"What are we going to do about you, little one?" I said aloud, allowing myself to touch my belly. There was hardly any difference in my belly, but there was life in it. I had no idea what I was going to do with a baby.

Maybe I could give it away... I was getting stressed out by all the decisions I had to make. I decided to stop thinking about it for the meantime. If I were able to carry my baby to a full nine months, I would begin to make the decisions then. I was a twenty-year-old who should be preparing for medical school, but here I was, deciding on whether or not I would keep a baby.

I came to a full stop when I realized that the alley that I had gotten attacked in a few weeks back was only a few steps ahead. I had passed it a number of times after the attack, but this was the first time I was walking it with my baby.

I was scared. I was terrified that something would happen, which made me realize that I was not the least bit interested in losing this baby. I took a fortifying breath and walked in.

What was that thing Maddy said again? That I was bound to catch a break at some point? It better be now because I don't know how long I could hold on anymore.

I was almost there when a sudden wave of light blinded me. I stood rooted to the spot as a wave of déjà vu washed over me. This was exactly what happened when my savior stepped in.

I was too slow to react. I didn't notice that the light was getting closer until I felt the impact. It took a few seconds for me to realize that I had been hit by a car before I welcomed the darkness.

LIAM'S POV The maids were cooking dinner when I got home, so I had them step aside to cook her a special dinner. I set the table for two and carried her down the stairs. I also made sure the kids were preoccupied so they wouldn't disrupt us. "You're really working hard for your forgiveness, aren't you?" She giggled as I poured her a glass of red wine and uncovered the food. "I was stupid. I shouldn't have been mad at you, and more importantly, I shouldn't have invalidated your feelings when you said you felt harassed." "That's all?" "I'm not sorry I ruined his company. He had it coming, and the only reason I made him recover was because of his employees. Otherwise, I would leave him out to dry." She regarded me for a beat or two. "Fair enough. I was just surprised because I had never seen that side of you before." "I'm a very jealous man, baby. Irrational, too. That part of me doesn't come out because no one who knows me would dare flirt with my wife." "Neil thought it was a

AMY'S POV The next day, the news of Neil's company bankruptcy was the highlight of the business world. How could Liam do this over a simple argument? Did he know how many people he put out of a living with his senseless actions?I was almost at the restaurant when I decided that this wouldn't do. I need to look him in the eye and have him explain what he had done. I would not be able to focus on anything anyway until I had resolved this. "Take me to my husband's office." I ordered."Yes, Luna Arlington." I seethed all the way there, still finding it hard to believe. Before he had stormed out yesterday, he asked me what I thought about the reason I didn't tell him about Neil and if I truly felt like I was being harassed. Me?I was too stunned to give him an answer yesterday, and he had had the audacity to tell me it was because I enjoyed the attention. Me? I was too busy and too content with my life to seek attention elsewhere. Mavin and Theo were more than any excitement I could eve

  • Alpha Liam's Chosen Mate   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED-SIXTEEN

AMY'S POV Perhaps, it was not in my best interest. I shouldn't have given him my phone. I wasn't thinking. I didn't get the chance to tell him about Neil yet. To be honest, I was waiting for when I would get a good handle on it so I could finally tell him about Neil. Immediately I heard the ping of a new text. I didn’t have to ask him what it says. It's from Neil, and he has said something untoward. "Amy, what the fuck is this?" Called it. I should have known he would react like this. Honestly, it was my dumb luck that of all the times that Neil would choose to text again, it was when the phone was in my husband's hands.I thought he had finally gotten the hint that nothing would ever happen between us. That was why I had been bold enough to give him my phone number, not that I was guilty of anything. "It's not what it looks like, darling." I tried to be blasé about it, but with the way his jaw was clenched, I could see that it wasn't going to fly with him. "It's not what it look

  • Alpha Liam's Chosen Mate   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED-FIFTEEN

LIAM'S POV Now that Amy was back from her work trip, I could finally stop working from home. Not that it was a bad thing, but I could barely get anything done from all the noise Theo made. He was more demanding than when his mother was here. I knew that if I told Amy that her son was crying more than usual and it was probably because he missed her so much, she would be on the next plane home, so I kept it from her. I only called after he slept or before he woke up in the morning. It would have been easier too if he had started school, but the new session was still two months away. She was supposed to use only three days, but that was no longer possible because the company she was meeting was flaky as hell. She ended up spending a week and a day there, but it all worked out because she got a good deal. Miraculously, Theo became her sweet little angel, as opposed to how much he disturbed Mavin and me. Even Mavin shook his head at how manipulative he was. The next morning after sh

  • Alpha Liam's Chosen Mate   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED-FOURTEEN

AMY'S POV I was part excited for the trip because it felt like I was being an adult for the first time in my life. I was contributing to the economy, and it was a great feeling. However, as the day for the trip drew closer. I remembered every scenario that could go wrong in my absence, and I didn't anticipate how nervous I would feel. However, I sucked it up and started packing. It was too late to get out of going after I already promised Maddy that I would do it. It wasn't even that important. We both decided to build a shopping mall together. It was near the restaurant, so running it would be easy. It was also a way for us to bring more revenue in so we would stop depending on Liam for everything. If we wanted, Liam could find partners for us, but Maddy was convinced that we needed to strike out on our own. Liam had also introduced someone for us that was managing our accounts before Maddy decided that she would learn to do it and then took it off his hands. Fortunately for m

  • Alpha Liam's Chosen Mate   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED-THIRTEEN

AMY'S POV Liam didn't mind that I spent the rest of my date coming up with different ideas for our restaurant. I didn't even tell Maddy yet, but I was still happy to tell him everything that we could do to the restaurant. The next day, Maddy was over at the house, and she was in the nursery watching Theo. The two of them got along so well. I think I would have been jealous if I wasn't his mother. When I entered, Theo was babbling something to Maddy, and whatever she said in response must have been so hilarious that he burst out in laughter. That was a sound I would never get tired of hearing. It was melodious and full of life, or that could be my mom bias speaking. "Wow, you didn't tell me you speak baby?" "I don't, but this little monkey and I have our own special language, don't we, my sweet boy?" She turned back to him, and I was surprised to see him nod. "Are you guys going to teach me?" "Come on, Amy, we can't tell you our secret." I pouted, and they both laughed at me.
