CHAPTER 2

Nathan POV

I sat in the pack house as tears gradually flowed down from my eyes, staring at her lovely face and her beautiful eyes coupled with her warm smile.

I could feel my heart beating so hard as though it was going to burst out from my chest.

"Death, why did you do this to me?" I sobbed.

It was almost a year now since I lost the love of my life but it seemed as though it was just yesterday.

I thought I could change, I thought I would overcome this storm but no - it was harder as the day goes by.

"I will find your murderer Elsa, I just need more time." I said to her photo as my tears dropped on it.

I heard a light tap on the door and I quickly ran to it to open it up since I was already expecting someone.

I opened the door slowly and the security agent that I had sent out came to give the result of his findings.

"I hope he has some good news for me this time unlike the others," I prayed in my heart.

"What did you find, were you able to get anything useful?" I inquired, already getting nervous and curious.

"I couldn't get much." he began.

"Whoever murdered her was very skillful to have left no loopholes." he said to me, making me let out a sad sigh.

Her murderers were always a step ahead of me. I fell to the bed and sobbed lightly.

"What do I do now?" I sobbed.

"But I found something." The investigator said to me, making me look up quickly like a little child filled with great expectations. I sat upright on the bed.

"And what was that?" I inquired briefly.

I watched as he reached out into his bag and brought out a torn piece of cloth and a claw and handed it over to me.

I stared at them confused. "What exactly are these for?" I questioned in confusion as I stared at the materials, clueless.

"It's proof that she was murdered cause these certainly do not belong to her, they belong to another werewolf, a female werewolf." he informed me with certainty.

At the sound of his words, I could feel cold shivers running swiftly down my spine.

As I continued to think about how my love was cruelly murdered, I heard a tap on the door.

"Thank you, you can go now," I said, turning over to the investigator that was standing right before me.

"Come in," I said to whoever was behind the door but I knew for sure that it was one of the pack elders. I was already tired of their disturbances.

They wanted to force me to marry someone else but I wasn't going to do that, not when I had not avenged the death of the one I loved.

"Greetings to you, Alpha." he said with a slight bow but I didn't return the courtesy, I only twisted my face with hate and frustration.

"How may I be of help to you?" I half yelled at him already feeling all the hair on my body standing.

"Alpha Nathan, the.." he tried to say but I was already becoming impatient.

"You are from the elders and they want me to get a Luna since I lost my mate?" I fired at him.

"Alpha it's not about us, it's about the pack, it's gradually falling apart," he tried explain to me but I couldn't listen to a word that he had to say.

"That's enough," I shunned him. "I will not listen to a single word about getting a mate anymore." I fired at him and stormed out of the room, hitting my legs angrily on the floor to form a pattern with my racing heart.

"I will find somewhere else to live, where I will have my peace and not be stuffed with all these mate issues." I thought inwardly as I tried to brace my emotion.

I walked out of the my chamber to the pack house outside.

"David!" I yelled as soon as I got to the courtyard.

"Yes Alpha," a young wolf came running up to me.

"Take me to the human city," I said to him with fury in my voice.

He opened the car for me but when he was about to start the engine, I heard a strange sound from the forest. So perfect like that of my former mate and reaching out to my heart.

"Or was that her ghost calling out to me?" I said to myself.

"Stop the car." I instructed him and I got out of the car.

Then, the strangest thing happened to me, I perceived the scent, my mate's scent of the most pleasant rose flowers, and couldn't help but continued sniffing.

With the swiftness of a leopard, I ran out into the nearby woods, and there, I met her with her back facing me.

"Elsa?" the word sprang out from my mouth and I ran out quickly to her with tears already dropping down from my eyes.

She was still my vulnerability.

But when I eventually saw her face, I discovered that she wasn't the one.

Instead, it was a beautiful damsel with flawless skin and the most beautiful eyes standing before me. She turned to me, reaching out into my eyes.

I continued to stare into those eyes - lost at the strange beauty that stood before me, my second chance mate.

"Alpha," the young girl said to me with a slight bow, already shivering with reverence.

I got hold of myself quickly and pulled away from her.

"It was a mistake," I lied but it was definitely one because I mistook her for someone else.

"I thought you were in danger when I came here but you should leave this place, it isn't safe for young she-wolves" I informed her as though I didn't care and I turned around to leave.

I stared at the wolf mark on her forehead, she wasn't a member of my pack.

"Are you a member of this pack?" I inquired.

"I don't know, I lost my memory and I don't even know how I got here." she returned with her tear-filled eyes.

It was too sudden and unexpected. I sighed.

"This pack does not accept strangers as it's not a charity home, find somewhere else to stay. I would have ended your life according to our laws but you may live." I informed her with a stern voice.

But then, she said a word that struck me like lightening.

"Mate?" I heard her muttered that word and I turned around quickly, staring into those beautiful eyes.

We could never be mates, I had a revenge to carry out and my heart was already reserved for someone else and that person was dead. There was no love again and I refuse myself from falling.

"Mate!!" But then again, she said.

"I am the Alpha of this pack and I don't need a mate." I spat at her face immediately.

I watched as tears formed in her eyes running down her flawless skin but I didn't care. No one was going to take that space reserved for Elsa in my heart.

I turned around immediately and walked away into the pack house.

"Alpha, aren't you..?" David tried to say but I waved him off immediately with my hands.

I went to my chamber in the pack house and fell on the bed. My heart raced so fast as though it was going to tear into two halves.

"I am sorry but you can't be my mate." I said to myself. She can never be like Elsa and I have already sealed my heart off any kind of relationship.

She was too late.

Shortly, I heard a soft knock on my door.

"Not again." I grumbled in annoyance.

 "Who's that?" I fired angrily.

"It's your mother." he said to me.

"Oh! Mum." I said aloud.

She walked into the place and shot a motherly stare at me.

"My son, how are you doing?" she said to me.

"I am fine," I returned quickly.

"You are not," she said to me.

"Mum, I don't want to talk about this," I said to her strictly, making her let out a deep, sad sigh.

"Okay but I would tell you this one thing, let the past stay where it belongs, and don't let it spoil your leadership and future." she informed me vividly and walked out of the room.

"No!!!" I yelled hard as more fresh tears escaped from my eyes.

But my tears were not going to bring back the one I loved and the Moon Goddess had someone else for me.

"Give her a chance, maybe you will find love again." my wolf, Dante said to me.

I remembered that beautiful eyes filled with tears and that flawless skin and deep inside, I knew I liked her at first sight.

Was I willing to accept her?

"Give her a chance," my wolf said to me again.

"Yes, I will give her a chance," I said to myself and jumped out of bed.

I ran as fast as I could down the woods, I had to find her and apologize to her. And as her to come back.

Down the stairs of the pack house, I found her staring at me.

"I know you don't want me Alpha, but your pendant fell off your robe in the forest. I had to return it." she said softly and reached out for the pendant that was meant for Elsa.

I stared at her and her beautiful eyes which made me forget about my sorrows.

"You can have it," I said to her and she stared at it with brightened eyes.

"I will accept you as my mate." I made a comeback, sounding nervous and reluctant. I could see tears forming in the corner of her eyes.

I went to her and hugged her, she was my future and Elsa was my past.

But something did not seem right about what I was doing but I could not point it out.

The whole mate bond, why don't I feel it?
