Selene:

Alexander and I walked inside, and I found myself smiling as he looked at me. My heart raced against my chest as he led me inside, and I found myself softening at the fact that he did something for me that I knew normal slaves wouldn’t be getting.

I was shivering violently, my teeth chattering so hard it hurt, my skin pale and numb as I forced myself to stay calm, my heart racing with each passing second.

Alexander didn't waste a second. The moment the door clicked shut, he was moving.

  • Alpha Petrova   Chapter 35

Selene:I didn’t notice I was smiling until Helena pointed it out, and that should have been my first warning.I walked into the concubine hall with my notebook tucked under my arm, my hair thrown loosely over one shoulder, and a lightness in my chest that I had been trying not to examine too closely since leaving Alexander’s rooms. The night before had stayed with me in ways I hadn’t expected, not only the things that had happened between us, but everything that came after: the couch where we’d sat, the ridiculous story about seven guards, the way he had listened without looking at me like I was something broken, the way he’d kissed my hand when the story stopped being funny. And then there were the words that kept circling in my head: I want you by my side, Serena. He hadn’t promised forever. He’d only told me what he wanted, and somehow that felt more dangerous than a promise because I believed and wanted it to be the same way.“Good morning,” Anna said, arranging books near the fr

Alexander:By late afternoon Serena had started to act like herself again, and that was the surest sign she was feeling better. She was stretched out on the couch beside me with her legs tucked beneath her. The notebook I’d given her rested on her lap, though she had not written a word in it. Instead, she told stories in that sarcastic way of hers, making even the worst memories sound like something worth laughing about. Hearing her laugh felt like a small victory, and I found myself watching her more than listening. She had refused to stay in bed once the soreness eased enough for her to move without wincing. If I expected her to spend the entire day trapped in my rooms, she had said, then she was at least going to sit somewhere that did not remind her why she was sore. I had laughed, and she had threatened me. It felt like our old rhythm again, full of arguing, testing, and eventually settling. I liked it… it was almost like everything slipped back to place. There were differences,

Serena:I woke slowly, as if the morning itself were reluctant to begin. For a few seconds I lay perfectly still, savoring the warmth that held me, a strong arm curled around my waist, the other tucked beneath his head so that I was pressed against Alexander’s chest. At some point during the night he had decided I was not allowed to drift far from him, and my body, heavy and tender, accepted the claim, and my memory arrived in a rush: his hands, the way he had carried me, the moment he stopped when he saw fear in my eyes. My face burned at the recollection and I shut my eyes again, hoping that stillness might make the moment less real. A low sound came from behind me.“You’re awake,” he murmured, his voice rough with sleep.I turned my head slowly. “Morning,” I whispered, and he smiled.“Good morning,” he said gently as he kissed my temple. I smiled and rested my cheek against his chest as he tightened his arms around me. I looked up at him once again and realized that he was still wa

The moment the door clicked shut, he was moving. He draped a heavy, wool blanket around my shoulders, pulling it tight to trap the remaining heat against my skin. His hands were warm and the contrast made me lean into him instinctively, seeking the furnace of his body.“You're freezing, Serena,” he murmured, his voice a low rumble that vibrated in his chest. He stepped back just enough to look at me, his eyes searching mine with a tenderness that made my heart ache. “Go on. Take a hot shower. Get the chill out of your bones. I'll have somethin

Alexander:The moment Serena stepped into my room, I smiled without meaning to.Helena had clearly taken my request seriously, and I could tell that her hands had been busy, and the result suited her. Her brown hair fell in loose waves over her shoulders, her face was lightly made up so her eyes stood out, and the dress fit her in all the right places without showing too much. She closed the door and met my gaze without bowing or even bothering to lower her eyes. No one else entered my room like that. Most of the women knew the choreography: a small bow, a careful step forward, the practiced deference Helena had taught them. Serena treated those rules like suggestions. And I had to admit that I preferred her this way.My wolf stirred the instant her scent reached me. Mate… I leaned against the edge of my desk and let my eyes travel over her. She noticed. Of course she did. “Stop looking at me like that,” she said. “It is actually rude to be staring at a woman the way you are.”“There

Serena:By the time Helena stepped into the classroom, I was already tired of hearing people talk about Alexander. Not because I wasn’t thinking about him myself. Well, mostly I did but I wasn’t going to say that out loud. Because his words from last night kept playing in my mind throughout most of the day, and Helena’s lesson played through the other half of the day.I sat by the window, pretending to pay attention while the instructor explained formal dinner protocol. The notebook Alexander had given me lay open, but instead of notes I’d been doodling in the corner for the last five minutes. Josephene noticed, of course.“You know you’re supposed to be writing what she says,” she whispered. “You are in class to learn and not play with some doodles that you think are going to get you anywhere. Well, then again, you don’t belong here, but you should at least pretend to try.”I didn’t look at her.“You know you’re supposed to mind your business.” I said, giving her a cold smile as I ke
