Chapter 10 Stop

Author: November
Selene's P.O.V

The car Blake had arranged drove me straight home from the Alpha exclusive club.

When I entered my home, I hadn't even taken off my shoes when my mother's voice rang from the living room.

"Selene, you're back? How was the banquet last night? Did you meet anyone suitable for a match?"

Just the thought of last night made my head ache.

I took a deep breath to steady myself, rubbed my still-throbbing temples, and walked to the living room. I settled onto the sofa across from my mother, forcing my voice to stay even.

"I met a few Alphas. On the surface, they seemed fine, but after talking to them, none of them really felt right."

At her words, my mother frowned, her sharp gaze locking onto me. "None of them are suitable? Selene, don't tell me you're still hung up on that scoundrel Malcolm?"

Hearing his name made my irritation flare, and it showed on my face. "No, Mother. There's nothing between us anymore."

She didn't fully look convinced, but she relaxed slightly. "Good. You'd better be clear-headed. You are going to inherit the Lunaris Pack and become its Alpha. Emotions are a dangerous trap. If you let yourself get lost over a man like before..."

She paused, her tone sharpening with a clear warning. "Then I'll have no choice but to consider giving the future Alpha position to Natalie. You should know the pack doesn't need a leader who's indecisive."

Natalie Kingsley was my elder sister. She wasn't my mother's biological daughter, but an orphan she had adopted years ago. Our relationship had always been terrible since we were young.

My chest tightened. It wasn't because I feared Natalie, but because I couldn't bear the thought of disappointing my mother or losing the responsibility that was rightfully mine.

I pushed down the irritation Malcolm's name had sparked and spoke with quiet authority. "Mother, you're overthinking. I just haven't found the right match yet. Don't worry. I know what I'm doing."

To back up my words and quickly solidify my position, I started attending all sorts of social gatherings and private dinners in the days that followed. My goal was indeed to find a suitable mate for an alliance, but the whole process was frustratingly dull.

The Alphas I met were either too calculating or subtly dismissive of a female Alpha, leaving me uninterested and impatient.

Today, I was heading to the restaurant for a meal. But the moment I reached the entrance, my eyes landed on two familiar figures before a waiter could even guide me in.

I froze.

Malcolm and Christina again?

These two were impossible to shake off!

I rolled my eyes, instinctively trying to turn and slip past them, but Malcolm had already spotted me.

Disgust and impatience flashed across his face like I was some stain he couldn't scrub off.

He strode toward me in just a few steps, cutting off my path, his voice dripping with disdain. "Selene? Why are you here? Stalking me? I have important business today, and I don't have time for your nonsense. If you know what's good for you, leave now."

I could barely hold back a laugh at his arrogance.

I forced down my irritation and said coldly, "Malcolm, do you really think the world revolves around you? Do you own this restaurant? Who you're meeting is none of my business, and I don't care. Step aside and don't get in the way of my own matters."

I tried to step around him, but he suddenly reached out and blocked me again.

He planted himself in front of me, radiating arrogance and threat. "Your own matters? What matters could you possibly have? I'm warning you, don't cause trouble here. Leave. Now!"

My patience snapped as I saw him act so stubbornly. My voice grew colder. "You're the one who should leave! I said I have an appointment. Move!"

Malcolm pulled a long face when he saw how firm I was. Suddenly, he grabbed my wrist hard enough to make me wince.

His expression twisted with anger as he growled, "Selene, stop embarrassing yourself! I'll escort you out myself!"

"Let go!" My face darkened.

My wolf stirred, ready to unleash my Alpha presence. But before I could, a cold, deep voice cut through the tension, stopping him in his tracks.

"Stop!"

Selene's P.O.VAria let out a little laugh. "Actually, it's nothing serious. I just heard some gossip about Malcolm and thought I'd rush over to make fun of him with you."When I heard that it was just gossip about Malcolm, I finally relaxed. As long as she wasn't in trouble, that was all that mattered. However, I'd lost all interest in whatever she had to say. I said lightly, "What he's up to doesn't concern me anymore."Aria snorted. "Good for you. But you know, I heard his company lost several major clients, his cash flow's tight, and he's been raging in high-level meetings. Yelling at his team, blaming everyone else for his mess, but never himself!"Her voice carried a mix of anger and indignation. "And to think, you spent years keeping those clients happy, drinking and entertaining until your stomach bled and you ended up in the hospital. And him? He just took it all for granted. Now you're gone, and he's lost. I wonder how long he can hold on!"I couldn't help smiling at he

Selene's P.O.VUnder Blake's occasional watchful gaze, I finally finished my breakfast at a slow, measured pace. When I set down my knife and fork, he gave a barely noticeable nod, a silent permission for me to leave. I almost jumped to my feet, grabbed my phone and bag, and headed straight for Aria's house. The moment I walked in, I was met with Aria standing at the entryway. Her arms were crossed, her gaze sharp enough to feel like a spotlight sweeping over me. She scanned me from head to toe, finally stopping at the moonstone ring on my left ring finger. Her eyebrows shot up."Selene Kingsley!" She spat out my name like she was accusing a criminal. "Spill it. When did this happen? How did it happen? And why was my brother next to you first thing in the morning? Don't tell me you two—"I knew I was in the wrong, so I quickly stepped forward. I looped her arm through mine and guided her into the living room, then plastered on a pleading smile. "Aria, don't get so worked up. Let

Selene's P.O.VAt my words, Blake smiled lightly, but his voice stayed calm and steady. "I trust you. As for him..."He paused slightly, his tone carrying a quiet, commanding indifference. "He doesn't have the right to make me jealous."He said it so calmly, yet it carried the absolute confidence and pride of a true Alpha. My chest felt a gentle bump, and a warm ripple spread through me.Being trusted like this was so strange, and yet so precious.I couldn't help but think back to my time with Malcolm. He never liked me interacting with the outside world. If I spoke more than a few words to another man, his face would darken, sometimes curling into thinly veiled mockery. At the time, I had foolishly mistaken his controlling nature for care and fear of losing me. I even secretly felt flattered by it then.Looking back now, I could see it for what it really was. He had been insecure and petty. True care wasn't about control or putting someone down. While I was lost in thought, my

  • Alpha Queen Rising   Chapter 27 Are You Jealous?

Selene's P.O.VI never expected Malcolm to call. Maybe my expression had betrayed me, because Blake had set down his knife and fork. His calm gaze flicked from my phone screen back to my face. His voice was even and unreadable. "What's wrong? You don't look happy."I had nothing to hide. I sat back down at the table with pursed lips, then said with a hint of annoyance, "It's nothing, just a call from Malcolm."Blake picked up his glass of water and took a sip, his tone calm as ever. "Not going to answer? Maybe it's something urgent.""Urgent?" I nearly snorted. "What he considers urgent has nothing to do with me. Even if it was a call telling me tomorrow is his funeral, I wouldn't care to pick up."Thinking back to my last encounter with him in the restaurant only fueled my irritation. I wanted that man erased from my life completely.I reached for my phone and swiftly ended the call. Then, I went into my phone settings and blocked his number without hesitation. The whole proc

Third Person P.O.V.Nathan leaned slightly forward and answered cautiously. "All we know is that she's called Ms. Kingsley. She's extremely mysterious and hasn't been active in the core circles of the pack until recently. She only returned suddenly and confirmed her status. As for her full name and detailed background, we're still doing our best to gather that information.""Kingsley?" Malcolm frowned. The name stirred a faint, almost imperceptible ripple of something unfamiliar in his chest. Why did Lunaris Pack's future Alpha have the same surname as Selene? But then Malcolm snorted and dismissed the thought.Impossible. Selene was just a lone, powerless Omega. How could she have any connection to the prestigious Alpha heir of the Lunaris Pack? The shared surname was probably just a coincidence."Find out everything about her. Quickly," Malcolm said, waving a hand with the familiar edge of command in his tone. "I want to see what kind of woman would dare challenge me.""Yes, A

Third Person P.O.V"And there's more..." Nathan's voice grew a little hoarse. "Over these past three years, you've probably felt the pack running smoothly, with things falling into place almost naturally."But have you ever wondered why the most difficult elders suddenly became reasonable? Why the information you need always seem to arrive at the perfect time? Much of that was Ms. Kingsley working behind the scenes. She analyzed situations, smoothed conflicts, and even took on criticism and pressure for you. For your sake, she hasn't had a single night of real rest these past three years."Nathan watched the storm building on Malcolm's face, but he couldn't hold back any longer. He lowered his voice and added, "Alpha, forgive me if this oversteps. But given everything Ms. Kingsley has done for you, she's the one who can truly support you and stabilize the pack."Compared to Ms. White, who only knows how to demand jewelry and run from responsibility... Ms. Kingsley is the one who sh
