"Get back here and take care of her!" Hank shouted at Jacob.
His rare temper shut Jacob up effectively.
"Ann would face a much more severe punishment if this one dies." Hank added in a lower voice.
"What do I do!" Jacob turned back to Emma quickly hearing that.
"Tell me where Lilith went, please." Hank turned to Emma, who was in a lot of pain and was at the edge of losing her consciousness.
"I know you care about Lilith, and I'm the only one who can save her now." Hank fixed his eyes on Emma, "You don't want Ann to hurt her, right?"
"Sh-she is leaving town," Emma said with great hardship, "Hig-highway 18, she's bound to take that one..."
"She owns you her life." Hank nodded before he put her finger on Emma's forehead and she fell into a deep sleep.
"I have stopped the bleeding for now," Hank told Jacob briefly, "Take her back to your house and your mom will know what to do. Do NOT take her to a hospital, do you understand me?"
"Yes, sir. I do!" Jacob took Emma into his arm, who was already out cold by then, "What about Ann?"
"I'm going after her." Hank said as he took out his wand, "Just go!"
Jacob ran towards his car without another word.
It didn't take Hank too much time to hijack a car, but it was long enough for Ann to catch up with Lilith first.
Ann was driving a sports car when Lilith was only in a secondhand Audi. And it took no time for Ann to spot the lone Audi on the highway driving in zigzag.
Ann took a deep breath before she hit the gas and drove up to Lilith's side, and her foreign car brought her right next to Lilith's driver's side.
Lilith didn't even notice the car beside her, let alone the driver.
Ann didn't take a good look at Lilith earlier at Jacob's place, or rather, she didn't care enough to.
This time Ann really paid attention to this human girl who was driving in her tears as she wipes her cheeks with her sleeve from time to time.
This girl was nothing out of ordinary. Not her looks nor anything. How could this ordinary human girl be the one that would steal everything from her?!
Ann couldn't hold down the burning rage in her chest.
She didn't want to test the wand anymore. She didn't dare to. She wouldn't be able to live with herself if this girl really could waken The Shadow.
Ann hit the break and Lilith's car passed her ahead quickly. Ann took a long breath before she mumbled her spell. Light came out of her palm and reached Lilith's car slowly under the dark night.
Yet it wasn't light that Ann was bringing Lilith, but eternal darkness.
Lilith screamed when her car suddenly took a right-angle turn to the left of the road, and the car jumped into the air as the tire bumped into the curb. The car spun in the air as it flew forward still when it was already over the left side of the highway, and that was when it happened--
The car landed on its hood dashing straight into the driver's line of a convertible that was heading in the other direction of Lilith's path before Ann crashed her car.
Ann stopped her car and walked over to the remaining of the Audi as the dust finally started to fall down. She approached the two cars twisted together as she took out The Shadow from her pocket.
The deadwood slept sound in Ann's palm.
Dark smoke broke forth from the cars as Ann approached, and the trees afar only added a shade of terror to this fateful night.
All of a sudden, Ann heard a groan coming from the other side of the car.
Ann's heart sank.
She rushed over around the ruins of the cars, only to see Lilith lying on the ground with her face covered in blood. Looked like Lilith bumped her head in the crash but...
How did she survive such a crash?!
Before Ann could make out the situation, the wand in her hand moved.
Only a bit, but it moved.
The metal grain carved into the wooden body shone as if it just came to life and was flowing into the ocean blue end of itself.
The Shadow was wakened.
It flew out of Ann's hand, slowly but sternly, higher and further to the direction of Lilith.
Ann made a loud groan as she grabbed the wand back, and even though small, she felt resistance from the wand, as if it was a baby taken away from its mother.
Tears fell down Ann's cheeks.
She got what she wanted -- she finally confirmed, The Shadow belonged to the ordinary human girl who was now lying on the ground, barely alive.
But even so, the wand wanted Lilith, not her, the most talented witch of her time, but the human!
Light rose from Ann's hand.
But before she could aim her hand at Lilith, a man's voice burst out from the shadow of the cars--
"What are you doing!"
It was only then Ann realized that they weren't alone. But how?! There was no one around! Unless...
Was he on that convertible Lilith crashed in?! But, was that even possible?!
The light died away from Ann's hand fast.
"I... I saw the crash so I just came to see if I could help..." Ann stepped closer to the cars, "Are you alright?"
The man didn't answer her "concern": "What was the light from your palm?"
"What? Ohh, I had my phono's lights on. It's super dark here." Ann lied, "Are you hurt, Mr...?"
"Interesting." The man chuckled as he stepped out into the light, and with a smirk on his lips, he said: "Could you call an ambulance then?"
"Of course!" Ann answered without even knowing what she said as she couldn't move her eyes away from the man. It was as if something nailed her sight on the man's eyes.
From the look of his pants, he was in a suit, but right now he had only his shirt on, which was also ripped open.
He had one of his hand in his pocket as he stood between Ann and Lilith, and the lights of his convertible were like the spotlight of his personal show.
Ann knew the man's evil smile was yelling out danger, yet all she could think of was the perfect figure showing under the unbuttoned shirt...
"Miss? Answer me." The man laughed, but Ann didn't answer.
She barely realized it was a mock directed at her for her getting lost in staring at him.
The man's lips curved into a dangerous smirk: "You are a witch, aren't you?"
"Boss, why didn't you tell her about Jacob's part in it?" Buster held a tie at Edmund's side. "I don't want to upset her." Edmund shrugged, "It was Beryl's plan anyways." "I guess we are keeping her this time then?" Buster asked with an innocent enough tone, and still got himself a glare-- Edmund didn't like this subject, because he wasn't sure how Lilith would decide. And he hated waiting other's decision. But Lilith didn't have any spare mind to really make any decision. The new witch life was too strange for her to settle in-- Light shot out of her hand everytime she had even the slightest mood swing. When she woke up from a nightmare, when she was pat on the shoulder, even when someone just called her name while her mind wandered. The first few days would have been hard if it wasn't werewolves and Sarla that was around her but normal humans. She felt horrible at first, but they made it into a game-- Lilith was having lunch
Lilith woke up in the middle of the night, and Edmund was sitting in a chair right next to her bed. "What in the name of Jesus!" Edmund shot open his eyes, apparently also a bit shocked: "Sorry! I dozed off...How are you feeling?" The last thing Lilith remembered was Ann inviting her to the private room in the library to "talk", so waking up to Edmund sitting next to her was as if the past several days was a super long horrible dream. As if she never woke up from the crashing night. "Why am I here?!" Lilith asked in panic, "What happened?! I thought I was in the library..." Considering her reaction -- well, her fury -- the last time he suggested to Lilith that Jacob might cause her crash, Edmund decided against dumping the nightmare-like day to her. Instead, Edmund just sat down on the side of the bed and patted her on the head-- "You are okay now...shhh--" "Don't!--" Lilith threw her wrist and hit Edmund's hand away, y
Several voices shouted at the same time. Some of them were mages, shouting at the fact that "Lilith" got hold of the wand; Mike, Ann and another mage standing near Algood were shouting at Algood because they didn't want the body control spell lifted. If only shouting works. They never do. "Lilith" got the wand in her bloody hand, and then blacked out the next second, like a puppet who just lost its strings. The wand also dropped from her lifeless hand, rolling away and stopped in the middle of the room. "Buster, the wand!" Edmund shouted as he managed to stand up with Lilith's body held in his arms, "Sarla!" Buster jumped out at the wand the second he heard his name called out, and Sarla was already at Edmund's side checking on Lilith's status. "Boss, she's fine, just out cold." Sarla glanced at Edmund's concerned look, "Let me check your wound--" "I'm fine." Said Edmund impatiently with one handheld on his left chest hard, "Wh
Sure, Edmund sighed in his mind -- he wasn't even that surprised. He was now pretty sure Ann was the one who crashed Lilith's car, so he doubt if he'd be surprised if one day he finds out that Ann had killed someone. "So, Mr. Algood," Edmund turned to Jacob's father with a dangerous smile, "Body control spell is your specialty?" "I don't owe you any explanation!" Algood snorted coldly, "Don't get too comfortable here, wolf!" "I wonder why you would help," Edmund sneered, ignoring Algood's attitude, fixing his eyes on "Lilith." There was now visible fear on "Lilith's" face. "Would you care if I kill..." Edmund's eyes fell slowly on Algood, "whoever inside her?" "Of course not!" Algood scolded furiously, "What are you implying?!" "I'm not implying anything," Edmund let out a light laugh, "I'm SAYING, you are the one who cast this spell, and my guess is, the person who is controlling Lilith's action is your son, Jacob Algood."
Though a bit surprised, Edmund was actually waiting for this moment -- Whoever made Lilith into this weird puppet, Edmund needed them to use her to reveal themselves so he could save her. Lilith picked up her left leg and threw her knee into Edmund's abdomen. Edmund back a step fast, trying to avoid her leg-- She would hurt herself if the crash happened -- A werewolf's body was was too strong for a human's kick! Edmund rose up Lilith's right arm into the air so she was barely standing on the ground, and losing all the momentum she had as her body bumped into his chest. Usually this would stop one from trying to make more damage but Lilith swang her body as if her wrist couldn't feel pain, and the second Edmund realized that whoever possessed her body didn't care about her, he had to let her go-- And this time Lilith's foot hit his hand and the suitcase flew out and slid to Ann's feet. "Ann!" Hank gasped in shock as Ann stepped
"Guess it wasn't her after all." Hank let out a relieved sigh-- For a second, he was really worried that Ann just might be the one causing the crash! "I'm sorry for the unfortunate crash," The archbishop sighed lightly, "Maybe some hothead went for her after Hank's vision changed on the meeting, but if so, at least she would be safe now." "That would be the best." Edmund nodded politely, not letting anyone see the suspicion in his eyes, "I have only one question before I gave this suitcase to you: who would be in charge of this wand, if you were to waken it?" "No one." The archbishop shook his head, "And I don't want your blood." This time Edmund was genuinely surprised -- he actually thought his blood was what the coven was after. Why would they need him if they didn't want to use his blood to waken the wand?! "I had the exact same surprised face," The archbishop smiled warmly, "When my mentor told me he didn't want to waken the wand,
