The room felt smaller once the door closed.

Katherine turned to me slowly, the silk of her robe whispering against the floor. Her face was calm again, like the storm had already passed and left destruction behind it.

“Do not say my name,” she said softly. “When they question you, you are going to deny everything.

My throat tightened. “L-Luna, I… I am scared. I didn’t do anything that would cross you… I am going to get punished?”

She stepped closer.

“You will not bring my name into this,” she continued, her voice low and precise. “Not to the Alpha. Not to Brenna. Not to anyone. And if you play smart, you are going to get out of it. If you hid all the evidence like I told you, burned the vial, made sure the glass shattered… you are going to be okay.”
