Chapter 1

On the tenth year of my relationship, my Beta mate, Jasper Morrison, abandoned me. He immediately held a bonding ceremony with the Alpha's daughter, Serena Lowe.

But my brother, Damon Fox, also known as the strongest Alpha in the Blackwood pack, found me three days before the wedding.

"Elena, you made it," Jasper said, his voice reaching me.

I turned and saw him walking toward me with Serena at his side. Their bonding ceremony was already over, and the guests were enjoying the reception.

Three days had passed, and whatever slight trace of guilt he'd shown before was gone, replaced by a smug satisfaction. It was as if he'd just pulled off a perfect deal.

Serena linked her arm with his and walked down the red carpet, smiling as the crowd showered them with admiration.

I stood alone in a corner of the ballroom, wearing a simple black dress.

It was the nicest thing I owned. And yet, against the luxury of this place, it looked painfully out of place.

"You don't look so good," Serena said with feigned concern, her eyes openly assessing me with thinly veiled contempt. "Are you still not recovered? I imagine the last few days must've been hard on you."

I didn't respond to her, staying silent.

Then, I smelled a familiar scent—"Moonlit Gaze".

My chest tightened. I knew that scent too well.

I had spent three whole months creating it, using the rarest tuberose, jasmine, and aged cedarwood. I extracted every drop of essential oil myself, and every blend carried traces of my pheromones.

It was made for our bonding ceremony, infused with every hope I had for our future together.

And now, another she-wolf was wearing that perfume.

What hurt most was that my pheromone signature had been erased. Someone had deliberately wiped away every trace of me, turning what was once mine completely into hers.

"The scent is nice," I said, forcing my voice to stay even. "Very distinctive."

Serena smirked, spinning deliberately so the fragrance spread even more, and said, "Thank you. Jasper said you made it. I thought it was decent, so I decided to use it."

She looked at me with open disdain. "Honestly, the formula is too basic. It has no depth. Just like those weak, dirty, orphaned wolves always scrambling for attention in the simplest ways."

I felt my blood boil.

Serena didn't just steal my creation—she insulted it in front of me and made me feel small.

"Elena's perfume-making skills could use some improvement," Jasper chimed in calmly, ignoring the fury in my eyes. "After all, an orphaned wolf has limited experience and access to the finest ingredients and techniques."

The surrounding guests began murmuring. Some snickered, while others shook their heads. They looked at me with a mix of pity and ridicule, as if I were a clown who didn't know her place.

My nails dug into my palms, the pain grounding me and keeping me from losing control.

None of them knew that I had spent every last cent I owned on that perfume. I earned the money for those rare ingredients by doing odd jobs for different packs. Night after night, I experimented until I finally perfected it.

All of it was because Jasper's family had taken me in when I was little, giving me care and a home.

I believed we would spend our lives together once we became mates.

I worked endlessly, and the sleepless nights blended into a unique fragrance for our bonding ceremony.

In the end, it went to someone else.

"Elena," Jasper said suddenly, his tone turning formal. "I've already arranged a place for you to stay. You'll be in one of the small cabins on the east side of the pack's territory."

I knew the eastern cabin well. It was used as a storage shack and was abandoned year-round.

The cabin sat near the swamp, damp and dark. The air was stagnant, and mold crawled along the walls.

For someone like me, whose mind was already unstable from the forced breaking of a mate bond, that place would be slow torture.

Jasper continued, "Even though we're no longer mates, for old times' sake, I'll make sure you have a place in the Silvermoon pack. You can stay as part of the pack. I'll take care of you."

He repeated the same old words as always. He wanted me to stand there, watch him bond with another she-wolf, and feel grateful for it.

Everyone was watching. They waited for me to break down in tears of gratitude, to kneel and thank him, and to accept his so-called charity.

They were waiting to see me surrender to my fate.

I took a deep breath, feeling the fire burning in my chest.

Then, I lifted my head and met his gaze.

"It's fine," I said clearly and firmly, my voice cutting through the noise of the ballroom. "I have somewhere to go. I'll be leaving tonight."

The ballroom fell into dead silence.

"Elena! My Elena!" Jasper suddenly shoved Serena aside and lunged toward me, completely unhinged.Tears streamed down his face. "This is all my fault! I was blinded!"He dropped to his knees in front of Damon, his voice breaking. "Elena's the only one I've ever truly loved. I'd do anything for her."The moment he realized he'd backed the wrong side and destroyed his own future, he launched into a frantic display of regret."Elena, do you remember the night we first met? That rainy night?" He sobbed uncontrollably. "I said I'd protect you for the rest of my life! I said you were the most precious thing I'd ever have!"You know how my family took you in and treated you like their own. The Moon Goddess witnessed our bond and those vows! I never meant to leave you."I listened to his rambling, utterly unmoved."It was all Serena!" He suddenly spun around and slapped Serena hard across the face as she lay on the floor. "This cruel bitch threatened me! She said if I didn't go along wi

The guests stood frozen, as if struck by lightning. Their eyes went wide, and their minds were unable to process what was unfolding before them.Jasper's face drained of color. He stared at me in Damon's arms, his body swaying as if he might collapse at any second."No… Impossible…" he muttered under his breath. "Elena can't be… She's just a nobody… an orphaned wolf with no pedigree…""An orphaned wolf?" Damon lifted his head. His icy gaze swept across the room before settling on Jasper. "Did you just say my sister is a nobody?"The way he looked at Jasper made it seem as though he could be crushed in an instant."Look closely at her eyes," Damon said coldly. "Those silver-moon eyes are the sole proof that she's a direct descendant of the Blackwood Alpha line."At those words, several older wolves immediately pulled out their phones, frantically searching for something.Soon, someone uncovered old photographs of the Blackwood pack from over 20 years ago.In the photos, the form

The ballroom fell into dead silence.A suffocating wave of alpha dominance swept through the room, and everyone shivered involuntarily.Even the usually arrogant Victoria and Serena felt their knees buckle.Damon Fox stepped into the hall. He wore an impeccably tailored black suit worth a small fortune, and behind him stood more than a dozen warriors in black—evidently highly trained. But the most terrifying presence was Damon himself. He had silver eyes like mine, but now they burned with unimaginable fury.He was tall, perfectly built, and had sharp, noble features. He radiated authority that pressed down on everyone."Damon!" Victoria rushed toward him. Excitement lit up her face, and she was utterly oblivious to the rage etched into his. "You came at just the right time!"She pointed at me, who was still kneeling on the floor, as her voice dripped with smugness. "This filthy orphaned wolf impersonated your sister and tried to sabotage the ceremony! Serena and I were just

I grabbed a wine glass off the table and slammed it hard against the floor. The glass shattered, fragments spraying across the ground."Elena! Have you completely lost it?" Jasper roared. In an instant, more than a dozen warriors surged forward and closed in on me. Their eyes burned with hostility, as if I were some dangerous intruder."I'm not crazy," I said calmly. "I'm protecting my dignity.""Dignity?" Serena sneered. "What dignity could an orphaned wolf possibly have?"I took a deep breath and looked at the warriors keeping me in. In my desperation, the words slipped out before I could stop them. "Alpha Damon is my brother. He won't let this go."At the same time, I hurriedly pulled out the report Damon Fox had sent me.The room fell into stunned silence. Then, laughter erupted."Elena, if you're going to make things up, at least make it believable!" Victoria laughed until tears spilled from her eyes. "The Alpha of the Blackwood pack is your brother? Do you think we're idi

I watched Jasper's thrilled expression and how he hovered around Victoria with open flattery. A deep chill ran through me.This was the werewolf who once swore eternal devotion to me.When it came to his own interests, he couldn't even be bothered to pretend anymore."I'm not causing a scene," I said coldly. "The mate bond is already broken. There's nothing between us anymore, and it's perfectly reasonable that I'm refusing your arrangement."Jasper finally turned to face me with a gloomy expression. "Elena, are you jealous or something? You can't stand seeing anyone else doing better than you, can you?""Jealousy?" I couldn't help laughing with mockery. "Jealous of what? Your fake affection, or the way you all use each other?"The guests immediately began whispering and casting looks my way again."What did you just say?" Serena snapped. "Elena, don't push it too far!""Too far?" I scanned the room, taking in the well-dressed wolves surrounding me. "I'm just telling the truth.
