Xavier:

The clink of metal was the only sound in the room as she fastened one of her earrings.

Her reflection in the mirror was composed, distant, the same look she’d worn for days now. It was starting to crawl under my skin.

She stood before the mirror, her reflection calm but her eyes questioning.

She reached for the first one — a delicate filigree chain, threads of woven gold curling into leaf-like patterns, a single opal teardrop hanging in the center. It shimmered faintly, soft and refined, the kind of piece that spoke of grace and tradition.

“What do you think?” She asked, turning to face me.

“About?” Looking at the jewels that she was choosing from.

“This one?” she asked, holding it up. “It’s… proper. Elegant for those to see. And I believe that it does not scream arrogant as much.”

Her fingers brushed over the second. It was heavier, a solid gold collar, sculpted into the shape of a coiled serpent, its tail looping toward its head. Tiny garnets glinted where its eyes were set,

Xavier:The conference hall smelled of polished wood, old parchment, and tension.Council meetings always did.Only today was different. It was about businesses that alphas took care of. They couldn't care less about what the Lunas were doing on the side.Normally it was just out of precaution that they needed to be sure that the Lunas were taking care of their duties, that there was a meeting for both Alphas and Lunas. Their main target were us, how we were holding up and how the rebellions were held up. The fact that there were no rogues entering our lands, well, there were no feuds going around. The elders sat in their usual half-circle, parchment spread before them, each one pretending age made them wise instead of paranoid. The conversation had long since turned from trade to alliances, then, inevitably, to me.“How is the progress with the Stoneheart alliance? There has been little to no word from the two of you about it.” Elder Roderick asked, his thin voice carrying more weigh

Valerie:“You look tired.” Maxine said, and I ran my fingers through my hair. She caught sight of the love bite on my neck, and she shook her head. “I can see why.”“I don’t plan for them. I don’t even want to go with them, but I find myself giving in whenever he kisses me.” I said, looking away from her. “I try to forget. I try to allow myself to think that I am his only one. But I am know that I am not. And it is not easy. It is not easy to love someone who doesn’t love you back, to look at him and know that he is thinking of her or would be with her.”“You confronted him too early at the time.” She said, walking towards me.“I had no other option. She played me for a fool. He was playing me for a fool. They took advantage of me being naïve… I tried to stay calm, but he went ahead and crossed all the lines.” I said, taking a deep breath. “I don’t know how to handle things anymore.”“You handle them the way a Luna should.” She said, putting her finger under my chin to force me to loo

  • Alpha Xavier   Chapter 27

Xavier:When the door closed behind her, the silence was deafening. The scent of her lingered, wild, untamed, delicate and something softer, something that didn’t belong in this house of dominance and bloodlines. I pressed my hands against my face, dragging in a breath that did nothing to clear my thoughts.I hadn’t meant to lose control. Not last night. Not this morning. Not like this…But every time she looked at me, it was as if the ground shifted beneath my feet. I wanted to hate her for it. Needed to. But I couldn’t.Because the truth was crueler than hate. She still made me feel.I leaned back in the chair by the window, staring at the faint light slicing through the curtains. My mind was already circling what I’d said and what I hadn’t. The divorce. Annalise. The look on Valerie’s face when she said she’d shower elsewhere. My phone rang, snapping me out of my train of thoughts. “What do you want, Hunter?”“I didn’t think that it was a bad time as we had seen your wife leaving t

  • Alpha Xavier   Chapter 26

Valerie:The light was soft when I woke. Not sharp enough to hurt, just enough to remind me I was still here. Still breathing. For a moment, I didn’t know where I was. My cheek rested against warmth, the slow rhythm of a heartbeat beneath me. My hand was sprawled over a chest. The chest was rising and falling peacefully…Xavier.Memory came back in pieces, the kiss, his hands, the words he whispered when we both stopped pretending that we hated each other.I froze. The scent of him was all around me, earth, smoke, and something darker, something that always felt like danger and safety tangled together. I should’ve pulled away, but my body refused to move. It remembered what my mind wanted to forget. My heart skipped a beat, and for a short moment, it felt like fire was poured into my chest. He stirred, just enough to shift the arm draped around me. His hand brushed my waist, not possessive, just steady. Natural. Like this was something we’d done every day of our lives. For one foolish

  • Alpha Xavier   Chapter 25

Xavier:The night stretched quiet, almost too quiet for what hung between us.I walked out of the bathroom in nothing but my sweat pants, water still dripped over my chest. But I couldn't care less. It was rare when I slept with sweatpants, but then again, I knew not to play my luck.Valerie stood by the window, her back half turned to me, the silk of her dress catching the low light. For a moment, I almost forgot what we’d been arguing about. There was just her, bare shoulders, slow breath, and the weight of something unsaid that filled the room more than any words could.“I thought that you would be asleep.” I said, my arms crossed over my chest as I leaned against the doorframe.“I wish that I could, but I couldn't. The idea of putting my head to rest is not one that seems to be applicable at this point.” She said, not bothering to turn to look at me. “You can rest, you don't need to wait up for me.”I wanted to respond. But I knew that anything that I would say might come as somet

  • Alpha Xavier   Chapter 24

Valerie:The restaurant Xavier chose wasn’t loud or extravagant. It was quiet. Private. The kind of place meant for whispered conversations and hidden truths.A single candle flickered between us, its flame swaying in the still air. The soft clink of silverware and muted jazz in the background were the only sounds that filled the silence neither of us wanted to break.I traced my thumb along the edge of my glass, pretending not to feel his eyes on me.He’d been watching me since we sat down, silent, unreadable, his wolf buried beneath that unnerving calm he wore like armor. When the waiter left, he leaned back in his chair, his tone deceptively soft.“You’ve been quiet all evening. And I know for a fact that you have a lot to say.”“I didn’t know we were here to talk,” I said. “And I never really knew that you cared about anything that I said. Lately, it's been nothing more than a challenge.”He smirked faintly. “You assume too much. And you choose to forget that we had our good days.
