Zayne's POV

Home was barely two hours away. All this time, Marissa and my children had been close to me. Almost under my nose. The thought weighed heavily on my mind as the car sped towards the conclave.

My Gamma, Kimara, and two top soldiers stood at the entrance of the mansion waiting for me. They bowed in unison with choruses of “Alpha" as I stepped out of the vehicle.

Kimara wore a scowl but it wasn't out of place. She was always wearing one. Just like I knew she was always wearing at least ten throwing knives hidden in various parts of her black soldier attire. Her purple hair was cropped short and an earring glinted from only one ear.

“Has Diana been found?" I asked, walking briskly straight to my quarters.

“Not yet. We searched all night and still are.” Kimara responded.

" How hard can it be to find one wolf?” I growled in annoyance.

" We will find her. We've put out word to neighboring packs and allies for news of her whereabouts.” Kimara responded quickly.

  • Alpha Zayne's Regret   Chapter 26

Elias Asher was sullen for most of the evening. I didn't try cheering him up. I was feeling pretty sullen myself. He offered me the plate of crudely cut hot dogs. He still wasn't talking much, but that was expected. I hadn't scolded him. Not exactly. I'd just talked to him. I remembered Zayne's mom giving childhood recounts of him as a child. How she figured simply talking and making him see reason worked better than yelling or punishments. I'd told Marissa this, of course, and she was trying her best. The kid just needed a firmer voice. It should be Zayne doing this. Talking to his son, managing his aggression. But he made his choice years ago, and now he wanted to waltz in like the past six years didn't happen. I grunted low in my throat as I tossed the veggies. I shouldn't be thinking that. Marissa wasn't mine. If Zayne wanted to get his wife back, he had every right to. The kids ate and watched TV while I opened a bottle of white wine lying around in the fridge. I

Marissa “What? What are you talking about?" He asked, “No you're not. Who the hell said you were.?" “I am. The Clarkson's think so and I mean who can blame them when…..” " Jeez Rissa slow down. Come on, come on," He led me back to the dining area and pulled out a chair. He sat beside me and took my hands in his. “Calm down ok? What happened?" And then his brows furrowed and he looked around, “Where's Asher? Did something happen to him?" “No. He's in his room. Time out." I answered glumly. All at once the alarm was gone from Elias's face and he sighed in knowing, “What has he done this time?" “Oh it's bad Elias. The worst. He hurt a kid in his class. Stabbed him with a pencil." “What?!" “The kid might need stitches. Oh , I don't know what to do Elias. Asher seems to be getting more aggressive and easily agitated, I didn't know what to do. I'm failing at this, I don't want him in therapy at five years old, I….” " Hey hey hey. No, Rissa. You're not failing, you hear me?” He t

Marissa's Pov “Can you see his arm?" The red faced woman said immediately I opened the door. I suspected she'd had her ear pressed to it though and launching into a tirade was a way for her to cover that. I might be wrong. And I was tired. Whatever burst of anger that had struck in the office left me weary all of a sudden. “Mrs Clarkson,I'm so sorry this happened….." “Sorry? You're sorry?" Her husband leapt up from his seat, leaving poor Brett alone on the bench. “Your son is a menace. What five year old is wicked enough to do this!" His wife nodded, “Brett is a sweet boy. He would never harm anybody. He didn't deserve this at all!" Maybe a little too sweet? I thought to myself as I noticed little Brett had begun to cry and sniffle again. “Listen, I can assure you this is a one time thing. You know kids. You never know what they're capable of and they surprise us at every turn." I smiled politely, staring pointedly at Mrs Clarkson, hoping she would understand. She was a

Marissa's Pov This day couldn't possibly get any worse right? Nightmares, headaches, Jack being shady. A nice trifecta. When my phone rang two minutes into my lunch break, a part of me already knew it wasn't something good. One glance at the caller ID and the feeling was confirmed. It was the twins kindergarten teacher. I groaned in equal parts frustration and anxiety. I hoped no one had fallen ill. “Hello Mrs Day." I answered as sweetly as I could manage. “Hello Miss Thorne. Sorry to intrude on your afternoon but, something's come up." I took a shaky breath and dropped my glazed doughnut after giving it a sad, longing glance. “Is everything ok? Are the twins ok?" “Oh Ashlynn is doing fine. Asher…." She trailed off as though she found the next words difficult to say, then cleared her throat. “Well he is fine too but the other pupil isn't." Oh no. Oh shit. I squeezed my eyes shut. “Please don't tell me he got into a fight." “I'm afraid so. We'll need you to come pick h

Marissa's Pov My breath comes fast. My heartbeat frantic. I'm running again. This time in heels. I catch a reflection of myself in the mirrors lining the hallway as I run past. I'm in a powder blue ball gown and gold heels, hair held up in an elaborate bun, my cheeks rosy pink with blush. I gasp at the image but I don't stop running, platform heels clacking rapidly against the thin carpet. I reach the top of a grand staircase, the type seen only in movies, and without a moment's hesitation, I begin to run down. I'm almost to the bottom when I place a foot wrong. My arms spread out l, grabbing for something, anything to regain my balance. But the bannisters suddenly seem so far away and I'm tumbling the last few steps, the green carpet rushing up to meet my face. I manage to get my hands in front of my face to cushion the fall to the hard floor. But the floor isn't hard. It's…sandy? Soil. I open my eyes to find myself on the forest floor. I gasp and jerk back up. I'm still in th

  • Alpha Zayne's Regret   Chapter 21

Marissa's Pov “He was so sweet and charming. We did the shopping together and he got along really well with Ashlynn.” " Well that's not hard. Ashlynn gets along with everybody. She's a ray of sunshine.” Bridget yawned as she spoke. She'd only just woken up from sleep. Sometimes I envied her single, child free life. " Not everyone exactly. She says she hates The Wilson twins." I countered as I propped the phone with my shoulder so I could fold the laundry with both hands. “Everybody hates The Wilson twins. They're assholes. Anyway, what did you say this man's name was again?" “Zayne Blackwood." I said and again, that feeling of breathlessness at hearing his name swept over me. I placed a hand to my chest and blew out a breath. “Oh my God, did you just swoon?!" Bree cackled. “I did not." I grumbled, “But if you saw him, you would." “Yeahhhhh why didn't I see him at the party? With the way you've described him, I couldn't have missed him." “He left early. Said he had
