“I’m saying exactly what it sounds like I’m saying,” I snarled at him.

“Oh dear, there’s no need to be rude,” Verity said with a light snort.

“Did I not just ask you not to disparage yourself mere seconds ago?”

“Alpha, I think she’s only just stating her reality,” Verity responded with a pout. “She may have grown up favoured by Alpha Darren but it doesn’t change the fact that her mother was only just a maid and she had to survive on the pennies Alpha Darren was generous enough to slip into her hands.”

“I do not remember asking your opinion.” Kian faced Verity with the full force of his glare. It moved her back a few meters. “You must have thought I ordered your shitty opinion along with the food.”

“No, Alpha –“

“Get out.” He snarled at her.

She hurried out of the office without having to be told a second time.

“You know she’s going to go cry to her father for being wronged?” I snorted as I watched Verity retreat.

“I am sure Beta Caine has not grown the liver to confront me.”

KIAN’S POV CONTD“There’s movement,” The Shadow said. “The order has changed. The second has killed his master.”“Who was the second in command, again?” I asked“Ares.”I winced at that name. Things were not looking up. It would have been easier to take out the leader, Ares’ uncle, but I let him be just to block Ares. Now, Ares had put himself at the forefront.“Report every single movement to me. I want to know if he so much as breathes wrong.”Ares was a man who would be difficult to kill. In other circumstances, I would accept this challenge with open arms and joy. It had been a while since I faced a worthy contender but none of that mattered when my mate’s life was on the line.“You’ve chosen the wrong time to run off on your own,” I mused to myself. “Watch him closely.”“Yes, Alpha,” the Shadow bowed. “About your mate –““What about her?”“If you give an order, we will follow.”All along, I kept my Natalie far from this dangerous group. No matter how well trained they were, the

KIAN’S POV I knew she would run. I thought I was prepared to catch her but I had underestimated my mate.“Isn’t she impressive?” A smile stretched my lips as I thought of her meticulously planning, putting things together to escape me.Me.The same person she swore she could never live without.“Who?” Matthew looked around the room.“My mate,” I responded to his confusion. “All the warriors, all the trackers, all the officers I have looking for her, she evaded them all. Despite shutting down the pack, she still found a way out. Like a rat.”“I – am not sure if you’re angry or pleased right now.”“It’s just like her to surprise me like this. How many men have managed to evade me for three days when I set out to find them? She would be the first.”“That’s not – Is that a good thing?”“I’m curious what kind of people she must have met in these three days. We’ll have a lot to discuss when I find her.”“If we find her,” Matthew emphasised.Something hot flashed in my head. I heard a pound

“This is as far as I can take you,” Verity spoke after a long, silent drive. “Get out of my car. I’m sure you have everything.”“Yeah, thanks.”The goddess intervened at the last minute. How else could I explain receiving help from someone considered my arch-nemesis?“I want to wish you good luck but I’m a bit sick of seeing your face so get lost. Do you have everything in order?”I looked at the bus ticket in my hand, the fake ID, and the burner phone she had shoved into my hands. It all happened out of nowhere but she was prepared. Verity was a girl who knew someone who knew someone who could get things done. The Caine name, second only to the Zephyr name in this part of the world, could do amazing things. I never thought a day would come when it’d benefit me like this.“If you’re doing all this to give me hope and then rat me out as soon as I contact this person, I hope you know that I’d never forgive you,” I said to her as I donned the wig.“Oh, I’m scared,” she sneered at me. “Yo

“Why are you helping me when you hate me? Is this because you want me out of the way?”I was too curious – too suspicious – not to ask again.Actually, I hoped she could get Kian’s attention. If she wanted him so badly, I prayed she got him.“You’re quite easy to hate, you know?” She said with a sort of derisive chuckle that made me want to do something irrational. “And who the hell wants your leftovers?”“You’ve chased after Kian all your life and now you want to act like you don’t want him? Can you fucking slow down?” I clutched the seat as she sped up her car.“I’m doing you a favour so shut the fuck up,” she barked at me.I shut up.After a short silence, she finally spoke.“You think you’re better than me, huh?” she blurted. “As arrogant as that bastard. You know nothing about me, yet you’ve given yourself all the liberties to judge me.”She spoke in a tone that made no sense. Verity Caine was known widely as a vain woman. There were hushed up jokes that the V in her name stood f

As expected, we received a grand welcome at the Luna Moon pack. The Alpha, his successor and even some of his elders welcomed us at the airport. We moved in a luxurious convoy, and once we reached the pack house, we were greeted by even more people. The tension in the air was palpable as they all tried to kiss up to Kian with wide smiles on their faces. Kian, however, was more focused on holding me tight like a thief he was unwilling to give a chance to escape.Did he know? I had had many sleepless nights in the past few days. I felt like his eyes were constantly watching me, like he could read my mind and see into my soul. It was a disconcerting feeling that threatened to drive me mad.Despite my worries, determination prevailed. If he wouldn’t let me go, I had no choice but to run away. Thankfully, this trip he forced on me came with a perfect opportunity. In Dark Howl, I was under surveillance twenty-four hours a day. Here, things would be different. Kian could only carry so much w

“Kian,” I called his name in warning as I tried to get his hands off me.“Natalie,” he responded with a growl. “Why do you have another man’s scent all over you?”“Since when did you care?” Rather than assuaging him, I got upset. “Didn’t you tell me you didn’t care what I did with my life as long as I stayed out of your way?”“I changed my mind,” he growled.“You can’t change your mind. You can’t fucking change your mind, Kian. Not now. Not when I’m done with you.”“What do we do, then?” He asked in a laughing tone. “I want you, Natalie, my mate. I changed my mind. Aren’t you happy? It seems playing hard to get has worked.”“I’m not playing-““It doesn’t matter.” He released me all of a sudden. “Have a bath. Wash off that disgusting scent on you and join me for dinner.”“Hey –““That was not a suggestion, Natalie.” He smiled – no, he barred his teeth in warning.‘What’s wrong with him?’ My wolf whispered to me, on edge.‘That’s his fucking business.’ I snarled, unknowingly transfer
