Elara
My blood was pure magic.
It could cure any curse in the world.
Some said it was because I was a descendant of the Moon Goddess. Some said it was because I was simply blessed.
But I knew the truth. It was a curse. Because my blood only cured the curses of people I didn’t love.
Once I loved someone, the magic in my blood no longer worked.
Just like how it was not working for Lily, my childhood best friend.
I glanced at her face and released a heavy breath. She had turned pale again.
“ Ela. ” She murmured, her colorless lips curling into a weak smile. “ Don’t—don’t worry. I am not in pain. ”
My chest tightened. I leaned in and slowly slid her sweat-stricken hair behind her ears.
“ Don’t pretend for me. ” I pushed back the tears that threatened to fall. “ just don’t pretend. ”
Weakly, she huffed. “ then what? Do I watch you…suffer? ”
Did it matter? I wanted to ask her. I had been suffering since the day I was born. But I kept my mouth shut.
She didn’t need more stress.
She needed medicine.
“ I will go get the Fora herbs. ” I told her.
“ Ela! You can’t just disappear into the forbidden forest again! ” She mustered her energy and hissed. “ Alpha Lucien has strictly— ”
I didn’t hear the rest of what she had to say. I was out of the door and had closed it behind me.
For those I loved, I could cross the rivers of fire. A forbidden forest, and an Alpha’s warning couldn’t stop me.
Determined and a little uneasy, I made my way out of the packhouse.
In half an hour, I was deep in the woods. The night was beginning to fall.
Hurriedly, I collected the purplish, glowing leaves from the ground and put them in the basket I was carrying.
I was almost done when I heard a familiar voice and froze. My feet halted, and I hid behind a big tree, peeking around it to see what was happening in the distance.
I stared at the strange scene before me. Lucien, the Alpha of my Pack and my mate, had a blonde girl pushed against a tree, his lips moving against hers in a wild, frantic motion.
“ Stephanie! ” He growled, his senses too lost in her to even notice the gasp that escaped my lips.
I slammed my palm over my mouth. What the hell?
So the she-wolves were right about it. They said an Alpha had an uncontrollable desire to have a woman at all times. And Lucien was not any different.
If he is not satiating himself with me, then he must be taking pleasure from another body.
I always thought they were wrong. How could Lucien ever betray me?
He was so sweet, so kind.
I felt dizzy as their voices grew louder in the forest.
“ Lucien— ” The girl huffed. “ Please just take me with you. I can’t spend a day more with that idiot. ”
Lucien exhaled a tired breath. “ I still need that witch, Steph. Without her, my Pack will fall victim to the curse like yours did. ”
Witch? So, that was all I was to him?
My chest tightens, a sharp pain spreading across my flesh in waves. This is not how it’s supposed to be.
Lucien is the man who held me together after my parents were killed in a rogue attack. He is the one who told me he will always be my shield, my protector, my lover. And then…Moon Goddess made him my mate.
Everything was perfect between us—
Then why?
“ Just one Black moon. ” The girl laughed. “ then—then you will kill her, right? And I will be your Luna, your mate? ”
Lucien paused.
My blood ran cold in my veins. My heartbeat slowed.
So this is what betrayal felt like. It was not a strong kind of pain. It was just a numbness that spread through my body, my bones, my flesh.
I waited, my breath held. Even if Lucien was cheating on me, he wouldn’t actually plan on killing me. A saviour could never—
“ Of course, I will kill her. Then, we will rule the world together, my love. ” He chuckled, leaning in to kiss her lips.
Something shattered inside me. Fear mixed with the numbness.
I wanted to storm over there and rip him apart. But without a wolf, how could I possibly fight an Alpha?
My eyes stung with unshed tears. I really thought he loved me, and was not only using me for my blood.
But even to him, I was just the means to an end. It hurt, and I wanted him to feel the same pain.
Suddenly, lightning struck the sky, and a figure appeared close to their tangled bodies.
The blurry man moved at a speed impossible to catch. He slammed into Lucien and threw him back into a tree.
The ground shook with the impact. A crack appeared in the tree, before it slowly broke and fell on the ground with a thud.
The man was onto Lucien again. His hand reached out and grabbed Lucien’s throat, lifting him high into the air. I could only make out his bare, rippling back and his unusually huge frame. But his aura was so suffocating that it made me shudder.
“ Alaric! ” Stephanie shouted.
The man stiffened. His grip on Lucien’s throat loosened.
“ Alaric, please let him go. ” Her voice lowered, turned into a whisper.
My brain couldn’t make sense of what was happening. She called him Alaric.
Alaric, as in the Alpha of North Shield Pack?
My throat closed up at the thought. I couldn’t breathe.
The enemy Alpha was in our territory, and he was after Lucien.
My frozen feet moved. I took several steps back. I had to run back and inform the Beta, the warriors, and everyone.
The enemies were here.
Slowly, Alaric released Lucien and turned to face Stephanie. My feet froze again.
The look he gave that girl was so similar to what I felt inside. Rage, pain, and an immense need to tear the cheaters apart.
“ Can’t watch your lover die? ” He whispered, his voice low but lethal.
“ Alaric, I can explain— ”
“ Then— ” Alaric cut her off. “ I guess I should spare you the pain and kill you first… ”
ELARAOh shit! No, no, no.Not him again.I opened my mouth to say something, but closed it when I noticed a shadow emerge in the distance. The shadow was tall and broad and so familiar. My breath hitched in my throat. Slowly, he began walking closer as if he were stalking prey. And when he stepped out into the clearing, my heart stopped beating. My Goddess! The man, the Alpha, looked absolutely furious. His dark hair was slightly disheveled as if he had been moving fast. His chest rose and fell with controlled breaths. But it was his eyes shining under the moonlight that made me shudder.Gold—pure, shining gold. A stark contrast to the silver of the moon. This was not the color of his human’s eyes, so it meant his wolf was threatening to rise to the surface. For a moment, silence reigned between us. I thought about turning and making a run for it, but who was I kidding? He would snap me in half before I even took a step forward.Slowly, his dark gaze scanned me from head to toe—The t
ELARAI limped toward the forest, putting most of my weight on my right foot. Every movement sent painful throbs through my injured ankle. The distance was not far, but right now, it felt endless. My vision blurred with tears. I didn’t want to cry, but my body couldn't help it.I was not a warrior who was trained to bear pain. I was just a healer, and healers were already sensitive to their pain and the pain of others.I didn’t like the pain at all. It always made me feverish. My knees buckled just as I reached the treeline. I almost fell but caught myself at the last second by grabbing a nearby tree trunk. The rough bark scraped against my palms. I pressed my forehead against it and panted. The forest spun around me. For a moment, I wondered if I should just stay here for a moment, just sit down and gather some energy. But then Lucien's face flashed through my mind.I had always expected others to betray me at some point in life, but Lucien’s betrayal had made me homeless. Even if I
ELARA“ You have no scent… ” His scorching gaze dropped to my rapidly beating chest. “ What are you really? ”I almost thought he would figure out something about me. Several answers instantly ran through my head, but not even one of them seemed to be perfect for this situation.“ I… ” I swallowed, my throat going dry. “ I am— ”Suddenly, Alpha Alaric grabbed my right shoulder. A gasp escaped my mouth as a shot of electric current ran down the length of my body.My gaze dropped to his hand, but before I could figure out what this was, he pushed me aside and opened the door.“ Stay here. I have something to deal with. ” He said in a hurry and moved out of the door.I turned around, watching his bare back and his fast pace as he rounded the corner and disappeared from my sight altogether.Pressing a hand to my chest, I took a few deep breaths. The tension in my shoulders eased a little.Where did he go in a hurry? I wondered, but that was not the important thing right now.The more impo
ELARAI was going with the flow, just letting this man drag me to his Alpha. As we neared the big mahogany double doors, my feet suddenly came to a slow halt.A strange scent hit me, taking over my mind, and making me sniff the air as if I was desperately trying to know where this scent was coming from.It was a dangerous presence. Cold air, storm rain, burned wood, and something dangerously clean underneath it all.My skin prickled. The man who was dragging me along opened the doors in front of us.I kept my gaze cast low as he pushed me inside and then closed the door. He was gone without even saying a word more.Slowly, I looked up and saw the bare back of a man facing me. My cheeks flushed as I tried to avert my gaze, but found myself interested in the scars that ran down his sides.Suddenly, the man turned around to face me. I recognized his dark grey eyes, his plump lips, and his straight nose. I couldn’t help but eye his silky, thick black hair and the sheer height and frame of
ELARAMy head was pounding with a terrible headache. I groaned under my breath and pushed myself upright. The floor underneath me was so hard that it felt like the stones might dig into my flesh any moment.Still groaning in pain, I blinked open my eyes. It didn’t take much time to adjust my vision because everything around me was already drowning in darkness.I released a slow breath and shook my head. After another wince, I finally focused in the darkness to see where I was.I remembered saving that Alpha and then getting attacked in the forest.Goosebumps rose on my skin. I straightened my back and looked around. This hard floor, the dark room, the small space—Everything pointed towards one conclusion. I was in a dungeon.Holy Shit!Who took me? Did Lucien find out that I knew everything now? Did he cage me in here?My hands began shaking. I grabbed one with the other and slowly sucked in a long breath. This was not the time to panic.“ You are right. This is not the time to panic,
ALARICPain was the first thing I felt.It crawled through my body slowly, like something alive—digging into my bones, wrapping around my ribs, pressing against my skull. Every breath burned. Every heartbeat felt wrong. But it was not unbearable. It didn’t feel like I was dying. Then, I felt the surface beneath me. It was soft—so soft—just like my bed.My eyes snapped open. The ceiling above me was familiar. It had the ancient carvings of my Pack symbols.I was in my room, and I was alive. That realization hit harder than the pain.My jaw clenched as memories rushed back. Stephanie, that good-for-nothing bitch cheated on me.I should have known that girls like her can’t keep their legs closed to any man. But to think that she ran straight to that Lucien.I couldn’t suppress the scoff that left my lips. Of course, she was chasing the cure to the curse and knew she could only break free of it after she became a part of Lucien’s Pack.Because, for some reason, only Lucien and his Pack me
