Chapter 14: Goodness gracious!

“Zeeb, told me about it,” he replied shortly.

“Oh,” I nodded in understanding. Since only the butler was aware of my encounter with the head maid, I anticipated he would surely tell him everything, so his reaction was much expected.

Neither of us spoke further; silence enveloped the room. I nervously toyed with the fabric of my clothing, head bowed. The atmosphere felt uncomfortably awkward.

"Are you alright knowing the head maid got fired?" He suddenly asked, prompting me to raise my eyebrows in surprise.

"I see no reason why I shouldn't be. She treated a guest so poorly, and her dismissal was well-deserved," I responded casually.

I observed his expression turning ugly at my words. Did I say something inappropriate? I couldn't help but feel puzzled, unsure of what triggered his drastic change in mood.

"What's the matter with you?" I thought, before asking, noticing his expression worsening instead of improving.

Ignoring my question, he countered, "What do you mean by 'guest'?
