CELESTE'S POVMy knuckles would probably need time to heal from how hard I had tightened them. Waiting for the beast to gain strength and attack first was so taunting, but even when Sam pointed out that it had opened its eyes and we could attack now, the Witches were adamant that we hold on until it fully took control of Killian's body. So we waited, for another twenty minutes or thereabout, until he finally jolted up and landed on his four feet, growling and grating the wooden floor with his claws. One of the witches chose that exact time to hand over the moonstone back to me. "Keep this with you..." She said, "When it is the right time to make use of it, you will be aware." And that was it. They held each other's hands tightly and began to chant in the usual, unfamiliar language, their voices rising with each word they pronounced. Malthus's wolf was torn between going for the moonstone in my hand or for the witches who had begun to chant an enchantment that was probably working a
SAM’S POV“About damn time!” I yelled when Celeste began to stir in her sleep. The beast was slowly regaining its consciousness; the witches had informed us it would transform back into a werewolf and would try to get us all killed as it had been angered. So we waited for it to fully get in shape. You might wonder why we didn't just kill it while it was still vulnerable. Well, it turns out that will also mean killing Killian. So we have to wait for it to dominate the entire body before we strike. We were all ready, not sure what we would be facing this time around, but we were ready nonetheless. The only person who wasn’t ready, apart from Malthus, was Celeste. She had passed out more than an hour ago. I have tried to take her back to her room thinking it wasn’t ideal for her to be here since she was unconscious. But the witches were adamant that she stay back. They claimed her presence was needed to do away with Malthus, as this was the “final battle,” as they called it. So I move
CELESTE’S POV“Killian?” “Celeste?” I have lost count of how many times we mumbled each other’s names, never for once loosening the tight grip we had on each other. Killian’s grip on my shoulder was a bit painful, because I had a fresh gash on my shoulder not up to an hour ago. The wound has healed from the outside, but it was still a bit raw to the touch. But compared to being in my mate’s hands after so many agonizing months of waiting, the pain felt pretty insignificant. At some point, we stopped with the name-calling, or better yet, I stopped. I let myself completely get immersed in what I knew would somehow end anyway. Killian held on to me, breathing heavily and mumbling my name over and over again. I let him, even though I so badly want to see his face now, hold it in my hands and kiss him until I melt into him. I thought I missed him, but with the way he was holding me and all, I just realized I probably didn’t miss him half the way he missed me. There is something about
CELESTE’S POVI looked around at my body, trying to see if any part was missing. The energy the moonstone sucked out of me had me crumbling to the ground in seconds. I inwardly ticked off the boxes in my head, and when I made sure every part of me was intact, I looked up toward Malthus, expecting to see a wolf taking a stance and ready to attack, but instead, it was an entirely different thing. “Killian!” I had the first glimpse of the wolf transforming midair, as the body hit the harsh-looking ceiling and bounced back to the ground. I just knew, deep down in me, that it couldn't be Malthus. The life-threatening situation must have made Malthus recoil away and let Killian take a bit of control in fear of getting hurt. The coward! The audacity of the coward! “Killian!” I yelled again, this time my voice croaked, and tears were streaming down my cheek, blurring my vision. I threw myself off the floor beside him the minute I reached where he lay flat and motionless on the floor. I sc
CELESTE’S POVThe moonstone, which was fast becoming intensely heated in my hand, was protecting me from Malthus, and I had no idea how. For minutes on end, we stood rooted to our spots, no one moving. I wasn’t moving, mostly because I didn’t want to trigger what could switch off the barrier. He was in a good position to get me killed, and with the look in his eyes, I just knew he wouldn’t hesitate to pull it off almost immediately. In the midst of all this, Sam picked this exact time to show up. The door was pushed open, and he walked in calmly, even turning around to close the door behind him, completely oblivious to the situation he had walked into. “Logan, why did you fucking send me into a dead trap without at least….” whatever was remaining for him to say died down in his throat. I am guessing he had a glimpse of what the room currently looked like. “What the freaking hell is this?” He whispered, his voice breathy with terror. But that doesn't stop him from moving in, though
CELESTE'S POVI stood frozen in horror. It clicked in everyone's head all at the same time. What the wolf wanted was the moonstone, and I was currently holding the moonstone. To add to that, I stood closest to the portal. I have the knack for reacting the slowest to situations. Logan, Kaiden, and Victor all jolted forward, their voices intertwining as they all yelled my name. Before I could react, the wolf's jaws snapped shut mere inches away from my face, and that was only because Kaiden had managed to push me out of the way just in time. I fell to the ground with so much force that it knocked the air out of my lungs. I gasped and attempted to sit up, but there was no time to do anything else as the wolf bounced forward yet again, moving toward my stretched hand that held onto the pulsing moonstone. I succeeded in moving out of the way just in time, but the wolf was relentless. He reached for me again before anyone could reach us and pinned me to the ground, his razor-sharp claws
