KILLIAN’S POV
For a start, I was never a deep sleeper. If I were, I would have been faster than I could say “halt.” Being an Alpha and a Mafia asset simultaneously does this to you. You always have to be wary of your surroundings, even while you sleep.
So I still couldn't wrap my head around the fact that Celeste was able to come close enough to hurt me while I slept. It just seemed surreal. I would have heard her footsteps the minute she stepped into my wing, and if I miraculously managed to sleep through that, then I would most definitely have heard when she opened my door. But for some unfathomable reason, I didn’t hear that either. I heard nothing until it was too late. Until the blade slid into my arm.
“This is sim
CELESTE’S POV“Where the fuck have you been?” Logan glared from me to Sam, the usual calmness in his tone completely nonexistent. In its place was a tone of horror. He seemed truly horrified by something, and that caused me to get super worried.“Where is my mate?” I didn’t bother responding to his question. It wouldn’t answer my own question, and my question is more important at this point. It required the most answers.“In his room, locked up. Why didn’t any of you think of informing me about his condition?” He was still glaring as he spoke.“What condition?” Sam and I asked at the same time. I could also hear the dread in his tone. It was evident.Logan’s glare intensified, if that was even possible. He looked like he wasn’t doing a great job holding himself back and stopping himself from smacking us. “I should be asking you both. What is going on? He changed into a wolf in front of everyone at a meeting! Do you even know the gravity of that? And none of you thought of informing me
CELESTE’S POV I don’t even know how we managed to get them off our backs, but we did. Sam was good with that. I will give it to him. I was worried about how we were going to get past the border with that many guards stationed there and others running after us. He proved to me that it wasn’t that much of a task for him. Still under the facade of a sightseer, he even stopped and had a few minutes of chitchat with the border guards before the palace guards could reach us. Don’t ask me how he got to do that, but he did. By the time they had probably noticed where we headed, we were already halfway away from their pack, and there was nothing they could do to us when we weren't on their lands anymore. “Remind me never to get on your bad side. You manage to get yourself out of whatever situation you find yourself in. It is somewhat scary to me.” I finally had the chance to speak as we took the path that will lead us to our pack. Sam chuckled lightly, seeming pleased with himself, and the
KILLIAN’S POV “Alpha?” I heard the call, and it was Logan’s voice, but for one, I couldn't bring myself to respond, and neither could I do anything else. I just wanted to get up and leave. That way, maybe I would save myself the stress of watching my body misbehave in front of everyone. But I couldn't as much as move my eyes when I wanted to, not to mention moving my legs and walking out of the conference room. All I could do was watch, watch from my mind’s eyes how Malthus does things I have worked so hard to contradict. I hated this, the feeling of being locked in my own body like a caged animal while another fucking creature used me like a costume. The humiliation I felt, the hopelessness, the dread, and the sickening helplessness that curled in my gut. He wasn’t just possessing me; he was mocking everything I had stood for. And that single fact frustrates me more than any other. “How does it feel like sitting in front of subordinates again?” He declared, and I could see the con
KILLIAN’S POVThey left. Sam took my mate, and they left for the Moonstone Howl pack despite my warning to him. I have never felt this anger and worry coupled with the frustration of knowing that nothing I could do but sit and wait. The wait wasn’t a pretty one, as the elders chose this exact time to bug me. Only Sam could have known how to safely get them off my back at a moment like this. Not even Logan could help as he knew nothing about my situation. So when he knocked on my door and told me about their request to meet with me in the conference room, I was up and about almost immediately, getting ready and hoping the day wouldn’t go from being already bad to nasty. I arrived at the conference room a little later than usual. Not only was everyone seated, but they were already scowling, probably due to my absence. Without a word, I slipped into the chair reserved for me and quietly observed them, my eyes moving from one Elder to another. A couple of them were looking at me, obser
SAM'S POVCeleste was visibly relaxed behind me as the door was banged, probably to indicate their departure. She wiggled and tried to move in front of me to get the door, but I held her hand and shook my head negatively. They didn't leave; they were simply playing games to make sure the house was empty. "What?" She whispered, already glaring at me probably for wasting her time when we could be out there already heading back. "They just think we are putting up a good hiding spot and are not entirely gone. Not unless you want to prove them right. Then stay here. I will tell you when the Course is cleared enough to make an appearance outside." I had my eyes on the little crack that let light into the secret office. There was no one in my line of sight, but they were out there. "I couldn't have survived to this point without you, could I?" "You could have managed. But by now, I am sure you will still be in the forest, trekking your days away while trying not to get dictated by their
CELESTE’S POV“Is it safe to say your whole life is a lie?” Sam stretched and stared at me with all seriousness, like my response would determine whether he leaves or not. “You are unbelievable.” I shook my head and folded back the journal. “Let’s get out of here while we still can.” Barely seconds after I had said that, there was a loud knock on the front door. I stared at Sam with wide eyes for a few seconds, taken by absolute surprise. “Shit, what are we going to do? They have figured out someone might have broken into the house.” I snapped out of my shock and started to panic. “We didn’t break in. We walked in by unlocking the door with an actual key. This is your parents’ house and you have every right to be here.” “Right?” I rolled my eyes at him. “Wait and tell them that when they finally catch us. For now, we have to find a way to slip out of this house without their knowledge. Or else, you end up in prison. And trust me, Kaiden isn’t the type to carelessly allow escape t
