Things boil over

Jake sat on the back porch for as long as he could bear it before leaping off. A single howl pierced the air, alerting his partner that he was on the prowl. He dashed into the woods, his nose pressed against the ground, hunting for that one specific fragrance. The night was bustling with sounds all around him.

Frogs croaked, crickets chirped, and owls hooted. He could hear geese honking off in the distance. Jake could hear small woodland creatures scurrying through the underbrush, either hunting for a meal or avoiding being eaten. He locked his gaze on the reflection of the moon in the woods. He sniffed the air once more... looking for her.

As she dashed for the trees, Destiny heard him thud loudly on the ground. She darted into the bushes, panting heavily from the excitement. Her heart was pounding as she looked about frantically, trying to figure out where she should escape. She bolted away, determined to put as much distance as possible between them.
