Chapter 4

Author: Teresa
I didn't know how much time had passed before the disgusting noises outside finally stopped.

After Sebastian left, Cassandra walked in. She crouched in front of me, her face twisted in fake sympathy. "Did you see everything clearly? Sebastian is obsessed with me. Do you really think he'd ever punish me?

"If I were you, I would've found a quiet place and swallowed wolfsbane by now. What a pathetic loser!"

"Suicide?" My eyes were dry now, stripped of all tears and left with nothing but cold resolve. "Why should I be the one to die when you're still alive? You're a murderer!"

Before she could react, I lunged and slammed her to the ground.

She clearly didn't realize that I was stronger than most shewolves, or that I'd been training for years. The ropes binding me had been broken for a while already.

Cassandra's eyes widened in shock and fear, but she still tried to bluff. "How dare you? If you lay a hand on me, Sebastian will cancel the marking ceremony! You'll be left with nothing!"

With a sharp motion, I snapped her arm.

She let out a shrill, piercing scream, her face pale as she nearly passed out from the pain.

"I don't care." I shook her off and wiped my hands, as if discarding something filthy. "I couldn't care less about those things anymore."

I didn't kill her. There were more important things I needed to do.

I quickly drafted a formal agreement to break the mate bond and had someone deliver it to Sebastian right away.

I had just taken photos of Sebastian and Cassandra in bed together. With such solid proof, the Elder Council would have no reason to reject my request to break the mate bond with Sebastian.

Thanks to them, it was finally coming to an end.

After everything was settled, I drove to the hospital for the abortion procedure.

...

Night had fallen, but I still hadn't returned home.

Sebastian sat at the empty, cold dining table, feeling an unexplainable sense of irritation.

He thought I was still grieving my father and blamed him and Cassandra for everything that had happened.

With a scowl, he called me, but I didn't pick up. It wasn't until the fourth call that I finally answered.

He snapped, "Why aren't you home so late? Don't forget you're still my Luna! Your father was barely holding on anyway. Just let it go..."

He was still talking when a healer's voice came over the line. "Ms. Morgan, we're ready to begin the procedure."

Sebastian was stunned. "Where are you? What procedure?"

"An abortion," I replied, my voice as cold as steel, stabbing through him.

Before he could say another word, I hung up and walked into the operating room.

Sebastian sat there holding his phone, glaring at the busy signal. He was convinced I was using pregnancy as leverage because of my father's death.

Deep down, though, a vague unease crept in. He grabbed his coat and rushed out the door.

Just then, his Beta, Ethan Granger, entered carrying an urgent file. "Alpha Sebastian, sorry to disturb you, but this is urgent…"

Sebastian tore open the envelope and was met with the glaring red stamp of the agreement to break the mate bond .

The words stabbed into his heart like a thousand needles, and his hands began to tremble as he held the paper.

A terrifying realization hit him. "Vivian wants to break our mate bond? Was the surgery real?"

Panic overtook him. With his eyes reddened in panic, he yelled at Ethan, "The hospital! Go to the hospital now! Stop Vivian! Go!"

But there was no way they could find me at any nearby hospital. I had chosen the most remote one I could find on purpose.

At the closest hospital, a healer stammered nervously, "Alpha, Ms. Morgan isn't here..."

"She comes here for checkups all the time! How could you not know she was with pup?" Sebastian roared.

The healer twisted her hands anxiously. "Ms. Morgan... She said she wanted to surprise you at the marking ceremony. She specifically asked us to keep it secret. We... We never thought it would turn out like this..."

Sebastian felt like the whole world was spinning around him.

At that moment, Ethan finally tracked down my location.

By the time Sebastian burst into the remote hospital, the procedure was already over.

Pale and drained, I walked out of the operating room, my hand resting gently on my abdomen.

The moment Sebastian saw my pale face, he knew the pup was gone. He felt his heart shatter completely.

"Vivian..." he choked out, his voice breaking. "Vivian... Our pup..."

It was as if all his strength had left him. He collapsed onto the cold floor, his expensive suit scraping against the tiles.

"Vivian..."

His voice was hollow and desperate as he asked, "How did we end up like this?"

As we were leaving, Cassandra suddenly rushed forward, blocking Damian Blackwood's way and screaming at the stunned Sebastian."Sebastian! Why should she get to accuse you? She's been fooling around with another man! You can't just let her leave!"But Sebastian, still frozen from the fear Damian's threat had sparked, barely registered her words."Sebastian!" Cassandra shrieked.Damian's patience snapped at her shrill voice. He scowled and said coldly, "Cassandra, I hope you can scream just as loud when you're standing trial."He paused, letting his contempt show. "Since you're so pathetically clueless, let me tell you my name. I'm Damian Blackwood, Alpha of the Moonshadow pack."If you've heard of me, then you should know I never let grudges go. Everything you did to Vivian, I'll make you pay for it twice as much."Don't think I don't know what you did overseas. You bullied a classmate and drove her to suicide. And you even had people raped your friend."I'll make sure every si

A dull ache throbbed in my lower abdomen, a painful reminder that it was all over.Sebastian stepped forward unsteadily, reaching for my hand. "It's okay, Vivian. We can always…"I yanked my hand away, looking at him calmly. "I won't give you another chance, Sebastian. You don't deserve to be the father of my pup."Pain twisted across his face. "I know you blame me for what happened to your father! But I swear, this time you can punish Cassandra however you want. I won't stop you!"He made another empty promise. The last time I believed him, it cost my father's life. I wasn't going to believe a single word he said ever again."You say you won't stop me?" I sneered. "And then what? You'll go behind my back and make sure she doesn't face any punishment from the Elders? Don't take me for a fool. This time, she's not getting away with it."Just then, Cassandra burst into the hospital in a panic. The moment she saw Sebastian and me together, she immediately put on her innocent act."

I ran through the hospital in a panic, only to find my father's body lying still, covered by a white sheet. He would never open his eyes to look at me again.I felt like the whole world was crashing down."Dad!" I collapsed to my knees, sobbing, my hands searching for any sign of warmth, but all I felt was a cold, lifeless body. The hands that once guided and protected me were forever stilled. An agony sharper than anything I'd ever known tore through my chest."Why? Why did this have to happen?" I sobbed. My vision blurred with tears as I grabbed the healer's coat and screamed, "How could my father just die like this?"The healer looked guilty. "I'm so sorry, Ms. Morgan. It was Ms. Cole… She said the hospital needed to save on electricity and ordered us to cut the power."Mr. Cole told us her word was as good as his. After the power was cut for half an hour, the ventilator stopped working. We did everything we could… But your father…"Cassandra! It was her again!A surge of

It was raining softly on the day I buried my mother. However, the last person I wanted to see showed up.Just as the crane was slowly lowering my mother's coffin into the grave, Cassandra arrived, carrying a bouquet of lilies. Without a word, she placed the flowers in front of the tombstone.I could barely contain my disgust at her hypocrisy. I was sure my mother would have felt the same.Without hesitation, I strode over and kicked her flowers away. "Get out! You're not welcome here!"She let out a dramatic scream and stumbled back into Sebastian's arms, even though I hadn't laid a finger on her."Sebastian!" she whimpered, clutching her "injured" knee and curling into his chest like a frightened little rabbit.Sebastian wrapped his arms around her, glaring at me. "Vivian! She's just here to pay her respects!"Cassandra's eyes welled with tears as she put on her most pitiful look. "Vivian, I know you hate me. I never wanted this to happen. I'm so sorry… If only I had died inste

My Alpha mate, Sebastian Cole's stepsister, murdered my mother in cold blood, but he still chose to protect her.The day I caught the two of them in bed together, all illusions I'd ever had were shattered completely. From that moment on, I swore they would both pay for what they'd done.A few days later, Sebastian finally let me out of the basement."Vivian, have you made up your mind about dropping the charges?" he asked. That was the first thing out of his mouth, as if the agony I'd suffered underground didn't matter at all. All he cared about was pleading for his precious stepsister.A sharp, familiar ache pierced my chest, but I forced myself to stand tall."I will never drop the case. Cassandra has to face the consequences for what she did," I said with a sneer. His gaze turned cold. "You know it was an accident. That day was her mother's death anniversary. She was already devastated, and then those Rogues attacked her. She tried to save your mother, Vivian. But the Rogues
