I couldn't get the image out of my head.

Calla crouched by that stream. Half-wolf, half-human and completely wild.

The way she'd looked at me like she wanted to rip my throat out with no recognition and no single awareness of who I was.

She could have killed me.

The thought made my chest tight. Not because I was afraid of dying. But because in that moment, I'd seen what she really was.

Powerful. Dangerous. And completely untrained.

If she lost control like that around humans...

"Axel." Jace appeared beside me. "We need to talk."

I was standing on the balcony outside my room. The night air was chilly as it was past midnight.

"What now?" I asked.

Jace pulled out his phone. "Got word from our contact in Washington. Your girl's ex-husband is busy."

I turned to look at him. "Busy how?"

"He's pushing something called the Supernatural Registration Acts through Congress."

My blood went cold. "What?"

The memory hit me in waves as Axel carried me through the forest. His voice cutting through the red haze in my mind. Strong and commanding, but gentle."Look at me."I remembered how his alpha power had washed over me like cool water on burning skin. How it had pulled me back from the edge of madness."You know this voice."I had known it. Even when the beast inside me wanted to tear him apart, some part of me recognized him.My alpha. My mate. The words had broken through the feral rage like nothing else could. They were truth carved into my bones. But now, walking back toward the compound, shame burned in my chest.I had attacked the pack. Drew blood from someone who had never hurt me. Proved that everything Michael said about me was right.I was dangerous. A monster.Axel stopped walking suddenly. We were at the edge of the compound, close enough to see the lights but hidden in the shadows. He was hesitating.I understood why."It's okay," I whispered against his neck. "I understan

I couldn't sleep.Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Michael's face. Heard his words echoing in my head.Maybe someone should challenge me for leadership. The threat hung over everything like a storm cloud. I'd built this pack from nothing. Saved most of these wolves from death or worse. And now they were ready to throw it all away because of one woman.Because of Calla.I rolled over and stared at the ceiling. My wolf was restless, pacing under my skin like a caged animal.Everything was falling apart. The vampires were picking off innocent people. Broken Howl was selling poison to our humans. My pack was splitting down the middle. And I was stuck in the center, trying to hold it all together. For what? The question hit me like a punch to the gut.For Calla. Everything I was risking, everything I was losing, it was all for her.A woman who couldn't even shift properly. Who brought nothing but danger and chaos into our lives. But then I thought about her eyes when she looked at me. Th

The scroll room was dark when I slipped inside. Everyone was asleep. Finally, I could search without judging eyes watching my every move. I lit a small candle and started pulling books from the shelves. There had to be something here. Something that could help me understand why I was so broken. "Well, well. Look what we have here." I spun around, heart racing. A woman stood in the doorway. She was around my age, with ink-black hair and the most unusual eyes I'd ever seen. One brown, one gray. But what really caught my attention were the glowing marks on her arms. Like tattoos, but they seem to pulse with soft light. "Sorry," I whispered. "I didn't know anyone else was—" "Sneaking around in the middle of the night?" She leaned against the doorframe with a smirk. "Yeah, I can see that." Her voice was smooth but had an edge to it. Like silk wrapped around a blade. "I'm just looking for something," I said. "Aren't we all, honey." She pushed off the doorframe. "Word of advice?

The training arena felt different today. More pack members had gathered to watch. They sat on the bleachers like they were waiting for a show.I tried to ignore their stares as I wrapped my hands. But I could feel their eyes on me. Almost like the idiots were waiting for me to lose control again."You ready?" Rika asked. Her arm was still in a sling, but she looked fierce as ever.I nodded, even though I didn't feel ready at all.Something was off today. My body felt heavy and slow. Like all the fire from yesterday had burned out."Same rules," Rika said. "Hit me like you mean it."We started circling each other. The crowd went quiet, watching.Rika came at me fast. I blocked her first punch, but barely. She threw another combination. I stumbled backward."What's wrong with you?" she asked, frowning. "Where's that strength from yesterday?"I didn't know. My body felt like it was moving through mud.She swept my legs. I hit the mat hard."Get up," she commanded.I stood up, but my leg

My hands were still shaking with rage.Michael's words kept playing in my head. The way he looked at Calla. The way the whole pack turned on her like wolves on wounded prey. She's a fucking liability.I wanted have a go at him right there in front of everyone. Show them what happened when someone disrespected me.My wolf was still pacing under my skin, demanding blood."Axel." Jace grabbed my arm. "We need to talk. Now."I looked back at Calla. She stood frozen by her table, those strange gold eyes still blazing. Even from across the room, I could smell her fear. And something else. Something that made my cock twitch despite everything. That scent she got when she was aroused. When she needed me.Fuck. Not now."Everyone Out!" I ordered everyone and watched as they all filed out before turning to Jace."What's so important it couldn't wait?" I snapped.Jace pulled out his phone and showed me a message. "We intercepted this twenty minutes ago. Crimson Order communications."I read it q
