In the hospital,

Maria Nixon tiptoed inside a dark room and shut the door as softly as possible to avoid attracting attention. She turned around to see metal shelves lined across the wall. They were laden with medical clothing like surgical uniforms, gowns, masks and other stuff.

She hurried behind a mountain of carton boxes and kneeled below. Her body hurt from laying in bed for a long time. As she rolled her wrists for flexible motion, she heard the door unlock.

Her breaths hitched. She let her head sink and held her breaths. She knew it would be useless to even think about running away because this hospital was one of the Alpha's possessions and half the staff was from his race. But the other half were humans thus she took a chance and lowered into a snail, trying her luck.

Relief washed over her bent frame as the sound of door slamming shut hit her ears. She let the breath she had been holding and straightened to a normal posture.
