On the twelfth anniversary of our mating ceremony, my Alpha mate's mistress secretary gave me a Moonlight herb worth $10 million on his behalf, the same herb that killed my mother.

Fresh from the healing clinic after my miscarriage, I connected him to request the severing of our mate bond.

But the Alpha just said. "If you want to sever it, then sever it. Don't regret it later."

After that, he never came home.

When I saw him again, it was half a month later.

Marcus returned home at dawn, not finding the hot meal that usually waited on the dining table.

He still ordered me around like a servant, commanding me to prepare his dinner. "I want venison."

He instinctively frowned, gave his order, then headed to the bathroom.

When he emerged with steam still clinging to him, he saw I still ignored him, still stared carelessly at the television.

He said impatiently, "It was just a gift you didn't like. Why are you still angry after all this time? As the Luna of Shadowmoon Pack, how can you be so petty?"

Seeing my displeased expression, he added, "I haven't spent time with you in a while. When I have time, I'll take you hunting to relax."

Before, when he wanted to appease me, he would take me anywhere I wanted to go, buy me expensive gifts.

Now, he only relied on empty verbal promises to brush me off. And these promises were never kept.

I couldn't be bothered to look at him. I casually changed the channel and asked:

"When will you have time to sign the mate bond dissolution agreement and submit it to the Alpha Council?"

As the Alpha and Luna of the pack, we couldn't directly sever our mate bond. We needed to submit a mate bond dissolution application, which would only be granted after the Alpha Council's approval.

Marcus was busy. So busy that his secretary had to choose his mating ceremony gifts.

When it came to scheduling, I always had to accommodate him.

"Stop making a fuss. Victoria didn't know your parents died from Moonlight herb exposure. It won't happen again."

The man poured himself a small glass of bourbon, sat on the opposite armchair, half-smiling.

Victoria's family was also northern territory nobility, Marcus's childhood friend who had adored him since they were young. When Marcus became the Alpha of Shadowmoon Pack, Victoria rushed to become his personal secretary.

They were inseparable, even sharing the same suite when patrolling the territory.

Actually, I didn't blame Victoria for clinging desperately to Marcus.

If he didn't give her opportunities, no woman could get close.

I yawned dramatically, tears involuntarily welling in my eyes.

After a long silence from me, Marcus assumed the matter was settled.

He asked about our ten-year-old son's situation at the werewolf academy.

I shook my head: "I don't know."

It wasn't to spite Marcus by deliberately not telling him.

I truly didn't know.

The Blackwood family was the northern territory's Alpha family, practicing elite education. The pup had been raised by Marcus's parents since young, with various lessons scheduled daily.

Laughably, though I gave birth to the pup , I now couldn't intervene in his education at all. Even the time I could see him was counted on one hand.

I had cried and made scenes over this, but the Blackwood family remained completely unmoved.

In their view, I was just a commoner-born werewolf. Being Marcus's mate was already extraordinary luck.

As for anything else, pure delusion.

Marcus pinched his prominent nose bridge, telling me to focus more on the pup : "You're too inadequate as a mother. If this continues, Victoria will seem more like his mother than you."

I understood his meaning.

Yesterday was the academy's holiday. I should have picked up the pup from school—the only chance in a week for me to spend time alone with my son.

But I waited four hours at the pup academy gates without seeing the pup.

I frantically searched for the pup to no avail. Only when darkness fell did Victoria call to inform me that the former Luna—Marcus's mother—had her pick up the pup for shooting practice.

Through the phone, I heard Marcus's voice.

He was asking Victoria with a laugh if she wanted soup. The warm scene made it seem like they were the real family, while I was a dispensable outsider.

Returning to the present, I smiled coldly at Marcus:

"That suits your wishes perfectly. I'll leave immediately. Let her be Shadowmoon Pack's Luna, since that's what you and your parents all hope for anyway."

Some word must have stung Marcus. He fell silent for several seconds, then erupted in fury:

"My patience has limits. Don't be unreasonable."

"Sage, stop being so dramatic." Marcus said impatiently.

The man stood and took two steps before I said coldly:

"By the way, you probably don't know yet—our second pup is already gone."

The pasta was taking longer than it should. A burning smell began to fill the kitchen, but Marcus seemed oblivious."The pot," I said quietly. He looked down in panic, quickly lifting the pan. The bottom was completely burned, the sauce a bitter, blackened mess."I can start over," he said frantically. "Give me five minutes—""Marcus, stop."But he was already dumping the ruined pasta into a bowl, his movements jerky and desperate."It's fine, it's still good. Try it."He set the bowl in front of me with shaking hands. The smell alone was enough to turn my stomach.I took a small bite to humor him. It was absolutely terrible—bitter, burned, underseasoned."How is it?" His eyes searched my face desperately."It's..." I couldn't bring myself to lie. "It's not good, Marcus."His face crumpled. He grabbed a spoon and tasted it himself, immediately wincing."I don't understand. I followed the same recipe. I used to make this perfectly.""That was twelve years ago.""I can try again. Let me

After we finished eating, Logan wiped his mouth with the back of his hand and looked at me with hopeful eyes."Mom, can you pick me up again next week?"His voice was small but determined. I could see the longing in his expression—the same way I used to look at Marcus years ago.I smiled as I helped him put on his safety helmet, adjusting the strap under his chin."If you want me to, of course I will.""Really? You promise?""I promise, sweetheart."Logan's face lit up like Christmas morning. He threw his small arms around my waist and squeezed tight."I love you, Mom. You're the coolest mom ever."My heart swelled with genuine happiness. This was what I had been missing all these years—simple, pure love without conditions or complications.I drove him back to the pack house, enjoying the way he chattered excitedly about our day together."Did you see how fast we were going on the highway? And the music was so loud! Grandmother would never let me listen to that kind of music.""Well, t

Marcus stood in my doorway looking like a broken man. His expensive suit hung loosely on his frame, and dark circles shadowed his eyes."I'm sorry," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.I stepped back to let him in, more out of curiosity than kindness. He moved slowly, like every step caused him pain."I've been thinking. Reflecting on everything that happened between us."He sat heavily on my small couch, his large frame looking out of place in my modest living room."I finally understand why you want to dissolve our mate bond."His hands clenched and unclenched in his lap as he spoke."Twelve years of you having no voice. No choices. You retreated into yourself until there was nothing left."I remained standing, arms crossed, watching him carefully."The mate relationship exhausted you, didn't it? I took and took until you had nothing left to give."His voice cracked on the last word."I know you're completely disappointed in me now."I shook my head slowly. "Disappointment was

The doors closed on his desperate face.I had never harbored much hatred toward Victoria. She was just another victim of Marcus's emotional manipulation. The only person who had ever betrayed our relationship was Marcus himself.---That evening, I made a phone call I hadn't made in years."Emma? It's Sage."The silence on the other end stretched for several heartbeats."Sage? Oh my goddess, is it really you?""It's me. Are you free for drinks tomorrow?""Are you kidding? I'll call Claire right now. We'll be there."The next night, I sat in a cozy bar with Emma and Claire, my childhood friends who had helped me survive my traumatic upbringing."I can't believe you just walked away from him," Emma said, raising her glass. "You should have seen your face when you told us about the mate bond dissolution. Pure determination."Claire nodded vigorously. "We always knew the Blackwood family was toxic, but we didn't want to interfere.""Actually," Emma admitted, "we've been keeping tabs on you

"Logan will have everything he needs with me," Marcus said, his voice cold and final. "The best education, the finest clothes, connections to powerful families across all territories."I nodded calmly. "At least with you, Logan will never suffer when it comes to living conditions."Marcus's eyes narrowed, clearly expecting me to fight harder for custody."Material comfort isn't everything, but I know you'll provide well for him."I paused, then smiled with genuine warmth."Giving him an Alpha father is already the greatest contribution I can make as his mother."The casualness in my tone seemed to catch him off guard. His jaw tightened."You're joking. At a time like this, you're making jokes?""I'm being practical, Marcus. Logan deserves stability, and you can give him that."He stared at me for a long moment, his hands clenching into fists."I don't understand you anymore," he said through gritted teeth.Marcus stood abruptly, his chair scraping against the floor."I have other busin

That night, Marcus kept trying to reach me through our mind link. I blocked him completely. Then my phone started ringing nonstop.Even on silent mode, the screen kept lighting up and going dark. I couldn't stand it anymore and blocked his number. When calls wouldn't go through, Marcus started using unknown phone numbers to contact me.He asked when I had started planning to dissolve our mate bond. Was it really just because of that Moonlight herb bouquet? If so, he had already apologized. He couldn't understand why I insisted on holding onto this grudge. He said I couldn't throw away twelve years of hard-earned feelings just because of someone else's mistake. Our son was still young. I couldn't be so heartless as to destroy Logan's complete family.I thought for a moment, then texted him back:"You need to calm down."This phrase was Marcus's favorite response to all my emotional outbursts in recent years.I knew exactly how powerful these words were.Sure enough, within two minutes o
