WHISPERS AND CLAWS

LEXI'S POV

I paused by the door, not wanting to believe what I had just heard.

Manny was getting a new Luna? I scoffed.

That man was capable of anything, he had betrayed me when I least expected it, so the thought of him getting a new Luna only made me feel sorry for whoever the poor woman was going to be.

At the same time, it made me panic.

What did this mean for me now?

Was he really going to go through with parading me before the pack before throwing me to the dungeons?

What was going to happen to Dexter and Wayne?

Would I be allowed to remain here as their mother?

What in the world was the future going to bring for me this time? I wondered, leaning against the wall.

As I walked back into my room, there was only one major thought in my head.

Whatever the future brought, I was going to protect my sons and survive it.

I woke up the next morning, with a knock from the door pulling me from my thoughts.

I opened the door only to find Manny standing in front of me wit

Manny’s POV“What the hell!?”The sound of her body hitting the floor echoed in my head. One second ago, she was standing boldly about to address the people who sat at the table, her voice was sharp and defiant. I had ordered her to sit and let us enjoy the meal in celebration of Dexter's memory recovery. But nope, Lexi was hellbent on proving her point. All was going well and then boom. She coughed twice, strong ones and her glass slipped off her hand, shattering against the tile and she collapsed immediately like the strength had been ripped straight out of her.For a moment, I could not move. My world just stopped. Then my instincts kicked in.“Lexi!”I lunged forward, my chair falling backward due to the force at which I stood from it. She was limp in my arms, her head resting to the side. Blood, blood, was smeared at the corner of her mouth. My heart slammed against my ribs as if it wanted to break free. I was scared and I did not care if anyone noticed it. “No, no, no… not

Lexi’s POVI smoothed the front of my dress as I descended the stairs later that evening, the soft hum of voices already drifting from the dining hall. My heart pounded hard against my ribs, not from nerves but from certainty. Tonight would be the night, tonight, I would end Clara’s lies, once and for all.Halfway down the stairs, I nearly collided with Jax. He stood with one hand on the railing, his sharp eyes scanning me as though he already knew what I was planning.“You look like a woman on a mission,” he said, his voice low but steady.I met his gaze without hesitation. “Really? Cause I am.” I leaned closer, lowering my voice so no one else could hear. “Watch me tonight, Jax. I am going to expose her. Everyone will finally see Clara for what she is.”His jaw tightened. “Lexi…” He hesitated, his eyes flicking toward the hall. “What is the plan? And are you sure about it?”“Positive,” I said, sharper than I intended. My pulse was already racing, my hand brushing against the small

Clara’s POVThe sound of voices drifted down the hallway, low but urgent, pulling me from the haze of my afternoon idleness. I had only stepped out of my room to stretch my bored out legs, but the moment I heard Lexi’s voice from just beyond the corner, sharp and persistent, I froze. My instinct immediately told me to retreat, but curiosity rooted me in place. I slowly and carefully pressed myself against the wall, leaning close enough that every word that was said on the other side became clear enough. “…because it was Clara who locked you in the freezer.”Lexi’s voice. My breath caught in my throat. I felt the blood literally drain from my face, my palms turning sweaty. For a second, I thought I had misheard. But then Manny’s voice followed, he sounded sharp and demanding, though with a hint of exhaustion and Dexter’s reply was soft, nervous, but unmistakable, cut through me like a knife.“No, it was not,” he said.Relief surged through me so strongly I nearly stumbled. I pressed

WHY DID YOU LIELexi’s POVI could still hear the faint echo of Manny’s footsteps fading outside the room, his final warning hanging in the air like a thick, suffocating fog. My chest burned with anger, frustration, and disbelief all at once. I stood frozen in place, my nails biting into my palms as I balled up my fists, replaying every second of what had just happened.Manny had looked me straight in the eye, his face hard, accusing, cold, and chosen to believe Clara over me. Not surprising though, but I expected better at least. And Dexter… my son, my own little boy, had looked me dead in the face, after telling me the truth in secret, and lied. He lied so smoothly to his father that for a moment even I questioned whether I had imagined our earlier conversation. But I hadn’t, I knew what he said. I remembered the way his small voice had trembled when he told me Clara was the one who locked him in the freezer. And now, after Manny stormed out, leaving that bitter trail of disappoi

Accusation Manny’s POVI could not believe what I had just heard. For a second, I thought I must have misheard her, that the tension of the day and my own exhaustion were twisting my mind into something ridiculous. But Lexi’s voice had sounded too certain, too accusing for it to be anything but deliberate. I turned back slowly, my eyes narrowing on her, trying to keep my face unreadable. I could not allow my thoughts, my confusion, shock, or the uneasy coil forming in my gut, to show.“Repeat that,” I said finally, my voice steady, though inside my heart hammered against my ribs. Her eyes blazed at me, unflinching, like a wolf staring down a storm. “I said Clara was the one who locked Dexter in the freezer.” Her voice did not shake, it carried that sharpness of someone who was certain of what she was saying. For a moment, all I heard was the sound of my own breathing and the quiet shuffle of Dexter shifting on his feet.I turned back to my son. My boy, Dexter, standing small yet

BETRAYAL OF HER BLOODLEXI'S POVI sat beside Dexter on his bed, pulling him closer to me.“Repeat everything you just said,” I told him, trying not to smile too excitedly.Dexter leaned closer to me. “I know who put me in that freezer that day, mom.”“Tell me everything that happened that day,” I said to him, with a firm look on my face.“It started that morning, after breakfast,” Dexter started, closing his eyes like he could picture it. “I was sitting in the room, playing video games when Miss Clara walked in,”My heart steeled as I heard this, I knew Clara was behind this but hearing it from Dexter's mouth still unnerved me.How could someone be capable of such wickedness to a child?“She made some jokes about my game and said that she wanted to ask me something, so I paused the game and turned to her. She then asked me if I was interested in playing a game to win a prize that I could give you.”I stayed silent, bracing myself for what he was about to say.“I told her I wanted to
