Samantha's POV

"Soulmates," a voice echoed in my head, and the chaos around me seemed to come to a calm. I looked at Alaric, wondering if he heard what the little girl said. We weren't packmates, nor were we in the same territory, so mindlink didn't work. How was I able to hear the girl's voice in my head? Ric looked as shocked as I did, as if Jada had spoken to us both.

"Get her out of here!" Elnora barked orders, then turned to Ric and me. "I am so sorry for what just happened," she apologized.

"Who is she?" Ric asked, looking very serious. I was about to ask the same question when Alaric chipped in instead.

"That's Jada... She's a siren," Elnora said. I was dumbfounded for a moment. So that was why her eyes were so alluring. I had never seen a siren in my entire life; I had only heard about them. It also made me think that those twins who sang earlier could be sirens as well with such otherworldly voices that hypnotized us.

They were indeed rare and gifted. So that was what it fel

Samantha's POV"Jada?" I called, still finding it hard to believe my eyes. She looked at me innocently. "What is that plant you are drawing?" I asked, and she looked at her drawing and back to me again, then she gave me a small smile."It's interesting, isn't it?" she said, and I nodded. I got really curious as to how Jada knew the exact plant I came here for when the entire Nightveil didn't. "It's a herb," she said, and I nodded hastily, pushing my seat closer to her."I know, but how did you come about it and why are you painting it?""I grow it. Want to see?" she asked, causing my jaw to drop. She didn't only draw it but she was growing the very herb I was looking for?"Of course," I said, and she went to get it. It was well hidden. I was surprised to see Jada had a secret passage in her corner. She had revealed to me that she created it and that even the mistresses didn't know. How was she able to pull off such a hidden place without anyone knowing?"This," she said, unwrapping th

Samantha's POV"Her name is Mistress Iris." It felt like my hope had been tossed up, left to fall to the ground, smashed so much that it hurt my soul."Iris?" I repeated, almost at the verge of tears."Are you all right, Samantha?" Alaric asked, leaning towards me and releasing a protective aura that clashed with my agitated one."Were you expecting to hear some other name?" Elnora asked, and a sharp gasp left my throat."Do you perhaps know someone with the name Celeste?" Elnora looked even more confused."No," she answered, and I nodded, feeling the weight of disappointment heavy on my heart."Samantha?" Alaric called, looking quite shocked himself. "Did you think Celeste was the headmistress?" I didn't answer and just avoided his gaze. "Why would you think that?" I still said nothing, but then thought again: what if Celeste wasn't my mother's real name?"Who is Celeste?" Elnora asked, looking curious now, so I went ahead to describe my mother, but she didn't seem to recognize her.

Samantha's POV"This way, we will lead you to your chambers now." They almost left me behind as I hadn't followed them at once, but Alaric stepped back to grab my hand and pull me forward. His eyes—they were so enchanting. The pull I felt was just irresistible. I released my hand from him to keep that distance, and his eyes twitched, showing he had just realized how inappropriate that looked.I was made to understand that Elnora was the principal of the academy and she brought up conversations as we walked, but all I could think about was what had transpired between Ric and I since our journey. I intentionally walked a step back to watch Ric's back because I almost went breathless standing beside him."And these will be your rooms. Hers on the right and yours on the left.""Thank you, Elnora," Alaric said, and I thanked them as well. Elnora looked at Ric and me again, having that mix of confusion and suspicion she had earlier when we told her we weren't mates. If she thought we were m

Samantha's POVMy curiosity for who Lila and her grandma were was starting to eat me up, especially since she said I had the scent of a rare breed. Ariana said I was a silver wolf on the day of my shifting but I had never heard about the existence of such, the closest I had gotten in my research was finding out about white wolves, a very rare kind of breed. If I was a rare breed, was I a breed of a werewolf and some other creature or was I a breed of almost extinct wolves? The confusion was overwhelming that I needed to get my head out of it.Alaric and I soon hit the road, driving majorly in silence untill we got to nightveil, finally. Just as its name implied, Nightveil had a gloomy cloud over it. The moment we stepped into Nightveil, the air changed. Everything felt different, with its ancient structures, tall, mighty buildings, and strong, tall metal gates. A large compound, warriors all around, clad in less modern attire."Samantha." I snapped out of my observation and looked a

Samantha's POVI woke up the next morning, feeling the exact way I felt the morning after Alaric and I consummated our mate bond. His scent enveloped the entire place, and I still felt his warmth, but then a cold air slapped against my body, and in a flash, I recalled the memory of rejection. My eyes opened sharply, and it took some seconds for me to register Alaric's scent again. I looked up to see him standing by the bathroom door, bare-chested, in shorts only. I trailed my gaze to meet his face that was glued on me, his wet hair cascading over his shoulder. I gasped at the sight of him and gulped down a mound of fluid.I shouldn't be doing this, but I found myself looking at his frame, the bulging muscles. Damn it. Alaric was huge, so handsome, he was so damn hot.Shit! I shut my eyes before opening them again. How could I think all those things of him? "He rejected us, remember that," I said, and felt a wave of anger, but it wasn't enough to stop my thumping heart."Good morning,"
