Chapter 4 | Crazier

Maven

This girl’s scent is driving me nuts. It’s way too similar to Elena’s.

Elena’s scent was like sweet like honey, with just a hint of lavender, and this girl had the same scent, except she also had the smallest hint of citrus, like the smell of oranges.

I’m ready to get back to the pack house and put some distance between the two of us. It’s too painful to be around her. The worst part is my wolf is adamant that she is our mate. I felt the tingles when I touched her skin, and her scent is driving me wild… but I can’t go through that kind of loss again.

It doesn’t matter if she is my mate, I can’t accept her.

Losing Elena, it was… it was my fault and I can’t be the one that causes another life to be lost.

I gulp down the lump in my throat as the girl rushes back into the car with a single duffle bag. My eyebrows furrow, surprised to see her with such little belongings, but it doesn’t matter. If that’s all she wants to bring, then that’s up to her.

I start the car and drive off once she’s buckled and I ask, “What’s your name?”

She responds, “Amelia, and I never caught your name, Alpha…”

I breathe out as I say, “You can call me Alpha Knight.”

She nods and I say, “I’ve paid my debt to you, you can live in my pack and you’ll learn from our head Omega what your duties will be.”

She sounds confused as she asks, “What debt, Alpha Knight?”

“You saved my life and now I’ve saved yours. I only have one condition for you staying in the Renegade Pack.”

“Yes?”

“You cannot come to me or try to seduce me. If you attempt this, then you will be cast out.”

“Alpha Knight, I would never-” she sounded confused as she spoke, but I held my hand up for her to quit talking. She stops instantly and I say, “It doesn’t matter what you think, Amelia. Do you agree with my conditions?”

I notice out of the corner of my eye that she bows her head as she says, “Yes, Alpha.”

We pull up to the pack house and both of us get out of the car. I take in a deep breath of the fresh air, grateful to not be in an enclosed space with her anymore. I nod my head in the direction we’re going and I say, “Follow me.”

I hear her hurried footsteps as she tries to keep up with me as we walk to one of the houses in the village. It’s a small house, just one bedroom, but it should be sufficient for her. I hand her a key and ignored the tingles I felt with my fingertips grazed her hand and say, “You start tomorrow. One of Omegas will come here to get you and show you to your duties.”

She bows her head, “Thank you Alpha.”

I nod and walk away. Eager to get back to my room and far away from her.

Amelia

I get inside my house and close the door and I watch out the front window as I make sure the Alpha is out of sight before I let myself break down. I fall to the floor as shuddery sobs escape my mouth.

I wish my dad was here with me so that I wouldn’t have to go through so much by myself. I’m grateful that I’m alive, but I don’t know how kindly the pack will take to an exiled wolf being among their pack.

My legs feel like jello as I force myself to stand up and wipe my tears. I walk through the small home and I’m happy with it. It has a decent size kitchen which was already stocked with food, a small dining room with a table for two, the living room had a single loveseat in there and a small entertainment center with a TV, a single bathroom with a separate shower and bath, and the bedroom had a queen-sized bed.

It reminded me a lot of my family's home. It was just a little smaller. My heart hurts at the thought, but I try to move forward. I know if I spend all my time focusing on the past that I’ll never be happy. Plus, the White Fang Pack wasn’t good for me or my family. Maybe this place will treat me better?

I look out the back window and see the sun was setting, and the sky was painted with pink, purple, and orange. I couldn’t help but smile at the sight. This was always my favorite part of the day.

There’s a knock on the door, making me jump in surprise. I place a hand on my heart as I tried to slow my heart rate back down. I’m sure it’s the Alpha or one of the Omega’s.

I open the door and smile as I greet this tall, dark-haired girl with her arms crossed. She was a pretty girl, and it seemed like she was trying to accentuate her breasts by crossing her arms the way she did.

I ask, “Can I help you?”

She points to herself as she says, “I’m Veronica. Do you know who I am?”

I shake my head no as I respond, “I’m sorry, I’m new here, Veronica, so I haven’t had time to meet anyone.” I hold out my hand as I say, “I’m Amelia.”

She sneers at me and grabs my hand as she yanks me out of my home and says, “Oh, trust me, I know who you are. You’re the exiled wolf. You’re the one who thinks it’s okay to betray her pack.”

She pushes me back until I’m at the edge of my porch and says, “Listen here, Alpha Knight is MINE! You will stay away from him if you know what’s good for you. And if you even try to hurt our pack, then I will personally kill you for it. Got it, bitch?”

My eyes widen as she shoves me back one more time so that I stumble off my porch. She jumps down to as she grabs me by my hair and pushes me to the ground and says, “I think you need to learn your place, mutt.”

Everything inside me screams to fight back, but I don’t. I don’t know who she is or how close she is to the Alpha, and I can’t risk getting killed over this.

Suddenly, I hear the Alpha’s voice as he asks, “What’s going on here?”

Veronica suddenly changed her demeanor as she bats her eyes and says, “Oh, it’s nothing, Alpha. I was just saying hello to the newest member of our pack.”

He looked at my disheveled appearance and he says, “Amelia, go get your things. We’ll move you into a room inside the pack house.”

Veronica’s eyes widen as I scrambled inside. I purposely tuned them out because I didn’t want to hear what their argument would be about. I just wanted to get away from her.

So much for this being a better place than the White Fang Pack. This girl seems crazier than Natalie.
