Amelia
By the time I came back outside, Alpha Knight had already sent Veronica away. He breathes out as he sees me walk towards him with my duffle bag. He tells me, “Sorry about that. Veronica is my Beta’s daughter, and she’s always been a bit… wary of newcomers. Anyway, there’s a room you can have inside of the pack house. It has an attached bathroom, but the kitchen and dining room are on the main floor, so you’ll have to deal with that.”
I nod, “Whatever you think is best, Alpha Knight.”We walk into the pack house, and he shows me my room and walks off. I look at the time and see that it’s now past 9, but with all the events today, I feel exhausted. I fall onto the bed and knock out.I wake up to the sound of knocking on my door. I get up and see a woman who was probably in her early 40s standing in front of me. Her eyes flicker to my face and she asks, “Are you Amelia?”
I nod, “I am, and you are?”“Maggie, but call me Mrs. Wilkins when we’re in front of others, okay?”
I smile, “You got it!”“Come on, Ms. Amelia. I need to show you your duties. The Alpha is a very punctual man, and he has you working for him, so you need to be on time for everything, got it?”I nod, “Yes, ma’am.”As we walk towards the kitchen she tells me, “He likes his coffee black, he’s allergic to eggs but likes to have a decent variety in his food each day so make sure to change up his breakfast every day, you need to bring his food to his office by 7:00 a.m. Got it?”
I nod, “Yes ma’am.”She nods, “Good, I’ll leave you to it. Alpha’s office is on the second floor and the third door on your right. Once you are done, I will meet you back here.”I nod and give a small smile as she walks away. I look back at the enormous kitchen and take a deep breath as I go on the hunt for the coffee beans.I went ahead and grabbed everything I would need to make breakfast and started to make the pot of coffee. The only issue was the machine is much fancier than anything I’ve ever seen. It took me a lot longer than I care to admit on how to use it.
Once the coffee was brewing, I made some apple cinnamon oatmeal, bacon, and a side of watermelon. I hoped this was enough variety for him. I set everything down on the plate and then grabbed the biggest coffee mug I could find and filled it up.
After I set everything on the tray, I took a deep breath as I mentally prayed that I wouldn’t drop it. I walked slowly up the stairs and looked for Alpha Knight’s office. As I went up the stairs, I noticed that other pack members saw me and would whisper about me. I wonder how long it will take for them to get used to my presence.
I struggled to balance the tray as I knocked on the office door and waited for him to answer. Once I heard him say come in, I opened the door and smiled softly at him and his Beta as I set the tray down. Alpha Knight didn’t even look up from his paperwork as he stated, “You’re late.”
My body froze as fear flooded through it. I know he is a punctual man, and I didn’t know what would happen with me being late.
The Beta looks at me with a smirk as his eyes went up and down my body. My eyebrows furrowed in confusion by the look he was giving me, but before I could think on it anymore, Alpha Knight said, “Leave us, Beta Kaden.”
Beta Kaden walks out of the room closing the door behind him and I stood perfectly still as Alpha Knight stood up from his desk. His eyes never moved off me as he walked around me slowly, like a predator getting ready to attack its prey.I force myself not to move as I wait for the punishment. I’m sure he will give me for my tardiness.
Maven
I don’t like the way Kaden was looking at Amelia. I’m not sure why he looked at her like that, but it doesn’t matter. I needed him to get out, anyway. He will expect me to punish her and… I don’t want to. But I need to make sure she knows that this can’t happen regularly.
As I get closer to Amelia, her scent overwhelms my senses. Lavender honey with a hint of orange… my mouth is watering from it.
I stand behind her and watch as the goosebumps rise on her flawless skin. I desperately want to kiss her and mark her as mine, but I refrain. It’s just my primal instincts coming up. My wolf wants this, but I don’t. I don’t want a mate and she hasn’t seemed to recognize that we’re supposed to be together and I’m not going to tell her!
I’m happy to live like this. I know she’s safe and neither of us has to go through the pain of being rejected or the pain of our mate dying after you’ve been marked. I’ve been quiet for way too long. I focus on her as I ask, “What time were you supposed to bring me breakfast?”
She whispers, “7:00.”
I move my face to her ear and my lips brush against her earlobe. I whisper in an icy tone, “I hate an unpunctual person. Consider this your first and last warning. Do not be late again.”
She mutters, “Okay.”
“You should say yes, Alpha, Sir, or Master.” I correct her.She whispers, “Yes, Alpha.”The sound of her voice caused a shiver to run through my body. I glance down at her. Why is it that I don’t seem to have an effect on her?The effect she has on me causes me to adjust my briefs as I walk away and state, “You may go.”
She nods her head as she says, “Yes, Alpha.”
I watch as she rushes out of my office, and she stumbles on her way out. Huh, I guess I have some effect on her. But… why doesn’t she recognize me as her mate?I shake my head as I get back to my work. It doesn’t matter. We won’t be together.
I rush out of Alpha Knight’s office and make my way to the kitchen, where I know I’ll meet up with Maggie. As I wait for her, I start the clean-up process for the kitchen. The incident with Alpha Knight repeats in my head as I clean the dishes.I don’t know what it is about him, but there’s some kind of pull I have towards him. I don’t know if I should be intrigued by it or scared. But I have to make sure I don’t screw up again. I can’t get exiled from this pack… if I get exiled, it will be the nail in the coffin for me.I hear Maggie’s voice and it brings me out of my trance as she asks, “How did breakfast go, Ms. Amelia?”I smile softly, “It was fine. I struggled with the coffeemaker and ended up being a couple of minutes late, but otherwise, it seemed to be okay.”She makes a face at me with her eyebrows furrowed, her eyes squinted, and her lips pouted, but says nothing.
MavenIt’s been a month since I brought Amelia into our pack. My meeting with the council is coming up soon and I need to inform them I plan to give her the option to become an official member of the pack. She currently is still a rogue. She’s just been in the pack as my slave, but now that I see how well she’s doing here and I know she’s not a threat to us, I want to make her an official member. The council won’t like this decision, but I don’t care. I need her to know that she matters and that she’s done well around here.Honestly, she’s thriving. She does everything asked of her perfectly and after that first day, she’s never been late again. Maggie only has good things to say about her, she’s nice to every pack member she comes by even if they aren’t nice to her, and she has kept her distance from me just like I requested in the beginning…I love that she listened to my ins
MavenI detest the days that training runs late. It throws my entire day off schedule.Of course, I could leave early if I truly wanted to. But I respect our head trainer, Dustin, and I will not be the first to skip out. These group trainings are a great way to boost morale within the pack. They would see me as weak if I was the first one to leave.Maggie sees me from the kitchen and grabs a water bottle for me and tosses it to me. I mutter a thank you to her before I walk towards the stairs and take them two at a time all the way up.I huff as I open the door to my office, and I freeze in the doorway and watch as Kaden’s body stiffens, and he stops moving.I move my head around him and see Amelia quivering on the ground as blood pours from her nose. Her eyes flicker towards me and I maintain eye contact with her as I ask, “What’s going on here?”Kaden speaks, “Amelia tripped and fell when delivering your food, Alpha. I was just about to help her stand up.”At that moment, I noticed t
AmeliaMaggie knew something happened to me, but she respected me enough not to ask about it and to just give me lighter duties for the rest of the day. By the end of the day, she told me to go get some rest.In the morning my nose was still swollen, and I had bruising on my face. I take a deep breath, cursing the fact that I have a weak wolf that caused my healing process to be much slower than others. I want to act like yesterday never happened.I walk to the kitchen and start making breakfast. Maggie surprises me when she says, “Oh dear, I was going to take care of the Alpha’s breakfast.”I glance up at her and tilt my head to the side as I ask, “Why would you make his breakfast? It’s my responsibility.”She purses her lips and says, “I didn’t know if you’d feel up to it, Amelia.”“I’m fine. Let’s just move on.”She nods, “If you say so, miss. But if you need to talk… just know I’m here.”I close my eyes, taking in her words, and whisper, “Thank you, Maggie.”I continue on like nor
MavenI’ve wanted to initiate Amelia into our pack, but this isn’t the way I planned to go about it. I wanted Amelia to want to be a part of the pack. And now I feel like I’ve taken her choice away from her now and that is the exact opposite of what I wanted to do. But… Veronica made my blood boil, and she was out of line.I’m having so many issues between her and her father right now and it is making me feel incredibly on edge. My wolf was annoyed by them and temperamental, he wanted me to just kick them out of the pack, but I can't do that.We get into my office, and I close the door behind me. I notice when I walk past Amelia and raise my hand up to run it through my hair that she winced. I look at her confused for why she did that. Does she really think that I would hurt her?I know I haven’t been the kindest man toward her, but I didn’t think she thought I was that cruel. I ask, “Are you okay, Amelia?”Her eyes flicker towards me and she gives a tightlipped smile as she nods, “Ye
MavenAmelia and I tear apart, and I look towards the door and see Beta Kaden. A small part of me feels relieved that we were interrupted, but seeing the angry look on his face, I know that this will not be a pleasant conversation. He’s insanely protective of Veronica. I’m sure he’s not happy that I chewed her out. But he has pampered her too much and allowed her to believe that she can treat anyone any way she wants to, and I will not accept this behavior. Our pack needs a change.Honestly, with Amelia’s kindness and sincerity, she has shown me what kind of Alpha I want to be and how I want our pack to look like to others. I want to be kind to our members and treat them well. I want people to wish that they were a part of our pack. Kaden’s eyes burn with anger as they flicker between us, and I ask him, “What do you need, Beta?”His eyes focus on me, and he says, “Alpha, I heard you were initiating Amelia into the pack? Don’t you think that’s a risky id-”I cut him off, “I just initi
KadenI can’t believe that Alpha Maven accepted that mutt into our pack like it was no big deal. He had her as a slave and that was bad enough, especially considering he never did anything to her to strike fear into her heart so that she wouldn’t betray our pack. But now, she’s an official freaking member. Why is that? Alpha Maven has always hated exiled wolves as much as anyone else. Something is different about her; I just don’t know what it is.I walk up towards his office and I’m happy to see that he isn’t in here. I must be careful because he can show up at any moment, but I’m sure there. Is something here that will explain why Amelia can stay? Maybe she’s some distant relative that he’s ashamed of or something.I walk around his office and peek in his drawers, searching for any type of hint about her. But I’m surprised to open a drawer and see, sitting on top, a paper that says some of our top warriors’ names and some of their qualifications. What the hell do they need these qua
(Trigger Warning! First half of this chapter has a detailed attempted rape scene. Please skip if this makes you uncomfortable)AmeliaKaden stalks towards me and says in a low voice, “You will stay quiet if you know what’s good for you.”My eyes flicker between his face and the belt in his hands. I don’t know whether to run or scream or what. My mind is running with a thousand different scenarios of what I could do, but my body doesn’t move. Why won’t my body move? Doesn’t it know how much danger that it’s in?!Every second, every step he takes, he gets closer to me being in his grasp. But I can’t move. He wraps his belt around my neck, pulling it tightly. His face is directly in front of mine, and I can feel his breath fan my face as he says, “If you dare to scream, I will choke you out. Do you understand, mutt?”He doesn’t give me a chance to respond before he turns me around and pushes the top half of my body against the washing machine. I breathe heavily, on the brink of hypervent
