Mira’s POV
The commanding voice halted us, and we obediently lowered our heads, overwhelmed by the immense power emanating from him. The omegas whimpered in submission, as if they were in their wolf forms, ready to roll over for a belly rub.“I demand an explanation,” the authoritative voice echoed once more. Startled, we snapped out of our trance. I watched as the men fumbled for words, unsure of how to respond. My gaze met his eyes, and my inner wolf stirred, recognizing him as my mate.I silently thanked the stars for bringing us together, even if it was under less-than-ideal circumstances. At least he would free me from these people. “Alpha, we’re dealing with a pack emergency at the moment. It’s nothing significant, sir,” they replied, their grip on me tightening like a vise. The Alpha growled fiercely, stepping closer to us. Fearing his wrath, they swiftly released me and backed away.No wolf could disobey a direct order from an alpha, especially a true Alpha, unless they were rogue. Rogues were banished or lone wolves who had lost their sanity and remained in their beast form with blood-red eyes. Known for their brutality and ruthlessness, they spared no one in their path, not even alphas.I rushed into his embrace, relief washing over me as I sought solace in his arms. He held me tightly, exuding the scent of fresh grass and musk. Tilting my head up, he gently held my chin and locked his ocean-blue eyes with mine. The intensity made me blush and feel shy. Lost in his world for those fleeting moments, I was unprepared for what would come next.“Have mercy on us, Alpha, and please stay away from that girl. She isn’t what you think she is,” one of them shouted, pointing an accusing finger at me. “She’s a witch.” “Silence!” the Alpha roared in his deep, commanding voice, filling the air with authority. He turned to me and asked, “How are you? Are you ready to leave?” My mate scoffed, gripping my hand as we prepared to depart.“She’s mute and a stealer wolf!” one man interjected, halting our progress. I tugged at my mate’s hand, urging him to ignore them and continue walking. But to my surprise, he yanked his hand away from mine. I knew trouble was brewing. I wanted him to disregard their words and pretend not to hear them, but that was wishful thinking.“What do you mean?” he spoke in a low, eerie voice that sent shivers down my spine. The man with the loudest opinion stepped forward, while the others’ gazes lingered on me with evident lust. They dared to move closer, as if they intended to touch me. However, my mate snarled menacingly, interposing himself between me and the man, effectively thwarting his advances.“Touch her again if you don’t value your arms because I’ll rip them off the next time you lay a hand on her,” he shouted at the man. Then, turning towards me, he demanded an explanation. “Explain yourself.”“Alpha, she is mute and unable to speak. What’s worse, she’s a stealer wolf, a seductress who lures men with her intoxicating scent. You’re a highly esteemed Alpha who deserves someone better than her,” the man explained hastily, shouting and pointing accusing fingers at me.“Who knows what she’s trying to do? Perhaps she aims to seduce you like she does with several unmated males in this pack. Didn’t you notice the way she hugged you?” another voice chimed in from the crowd.“Stealer wolves are notorious for their adulterous ways. She’s only trying to seduce you. Please stay away from her,” added Eden, one of the pack warriors. Disbelief washed over me as I realized the pack’s conspiracy against me. This very man had cornered me just last week during my visit to the farmers’ market, proposing himself as a lover. I promptly declined, remaining faithful to my destined mate. I couldn’t fathom how he stooped so low as to smear my name in front of my mate. Hot tears streamed down my face. To what extent was he willing to go to get what he wanted? Just because I rejected his advances.“Aren’t you going to explain what’s happening and defend yourself?” the Alpha bellowed, looking at me expectantly. But all I could do was shake my head and plead silently, tears cascading down my cheeks.“So, everything they say is true?” he asked, turning his gaze upon me. “You’re not only mute, but also a slut?” My mate’s words pierced through me like a knife. Desperate to speak out and expose their lies, I opened my mouth, hoping that words would flow forth to silence them. Falling to my knees, I begged him, sobbing with frustration.“It’s all true, Alpha. She has been mute since birth,” they chorused with furrowed brows.“No way, I can’t accept you,” he declared, looking away dismissively. “Stay away from me, or I might just kill you.” With a forceful push, he sent me sprawling to the ground. Refusing to let him go, I clung tightly to his leg. This wasn’t how I imagined today would turn out. Day after day, I had endured both physical and mental abuse.Today turned out to be nothing like I had imagined. My family and even the other members of the pack have subjected me to daily physical and mental abuse. But through it all, I held onto the hope of meeting my mate on my 18th birthday, a dream that kept me going when I wanted to give up.“She’s cursed, Alpha, right from the day she was born. Let her go, Alpha,” they all chanted. I vehemently shook my head, refusing to move away from his side. “I reject...” He was about to complete his sentence when I let out a piercing scream.“Nooooo...!” I had no idea where the strength and voice came from. All eyes turned towards me in shock and disbelief. “She can speak? Isn’t that Mira?” Those were the last words I heard before I collapsed into his embrace.Mira’s POV My heart pounded in my chest as I stumbled to keep pace with Navier's quick, hard steps, his hand clamped around mine tightly, as he dragged me upstairs, taking two steps at a time.I managed to tug my hand free at the top of the stairs, panting soundlessly.“Where are you taking me to?” I gestured in quick, desperate succession. He didn’t even glance at my hands, and in response, he growled so deep that I fearfully placed my hand back in his tight hold, regaining my position, in order not to anger him further. My mind raced with a series of questions as we went upstairs. This was jealousy, it had to be. Because, why else would he beat up Cole like that if he wasn't possessive over me? I felt a wave of stomach-tingling hope coupled with fear wash over me. Navier shoved me into his room and the door slammed shut with a bang that echoed in my bones. My back hit the wall hard enough to knock the air from my lungs.“Undress” ‘W….….h……a……t!’“I said take those clothes off,
Mira's POV.I should've stayed in bed, curled up in my blankets waiting for my promised meal after Father left. But my miserable fate and trouble always find me. "I believe you all didn't turn deaf all of a sudden!" Navier growled low this time, shifting his hard unflinching gaze to me. "You all must be idle, seeing as you turned my pack into a commotion, instead of earning your keep!"My soul almost jumped out of my body, on hearing his voice. My heart hammered against my ribs, I felt a cold sweat break out on my brow, my knees threatened to buckle beneath me, as Navier advanced towards us, each word laced with anger, and step oozing of authority. All I could think of was the pouch in Ellen's grip and Navier discovering its contents."Better start talking or I'll have you all planking on the field till the day is over!" Navier smirked, pointing to the window at the open field, pointing to each one of us. "Guess whose mouth and nostrils are going to be dripping like a broken faucet?
Mira's POV.My blood ran cold. Ellen would take it to the Alpha? Why has my life been so damn unlucky? First, it was my father pressuring me to kill my mate, and now Ellen is pressuring me to explain the content in the vials.Life was beginning to tire me. All I ever wanted was love, not endless trials. What could I say to escape this mess? Besides, Ellen is just the head cook; if matters escalate, I could get Mama T to make her give it to me.“Can you be quick with your answer!” Ellen snapped impatiently. “I don't have all day, not all of us are jobless like you are!”Her words irked me, and I flipped out.“Then go to hell, and give me back my pouch, you evil witch,” I angrily signed, stubbing my foot on the floor in frustration. I wished I could speak aloud and curse her. I was tired of being pushed around and intimidated.“What did she just say?” Ellen asked, amusement in her eyes. She found my hand gestures funny, and it frustrated me that I couldn't speak.I had never felt so hum
Mira's POV. My remained fixed on the door, long after Father left. Was I supposed to obey the man who made my life a living hell since I was born? Or protect my fated mate, who clearly wanted nothing to do with me? But Navier was changing. He'd been furious at the hospital when he found out I wasn’t eating. He even carried me on his back. That had to mean something. Father was wrong! Navier was starting to care for me. Father didn't see the love in his love eyes. I knew it wasn't conjured by my imagination. It was real. For hours, I forgot about the hunger twisting my stomach, and fought the storm of uncertainties raging in my head, until I remembered. I didn't have the vials anymore. I'm so dead! I stood up abruptly, ran to the wardrobe and rummaged through it, flipping my single man’s bed upside down in search of the Vials. Where could it be! I thought in panic, my heart racing with every second. Father would kill me. Then it hit me, the last time I saw the bl
Alpha Diego POV.After my conversation with Olivia, two days ago. Somewhere within me, I had the feat that she had been caught. If not, Alpha Navier should have been announced dead by now. I should never have entrusted the bitch with such a mission. She's a fuck up. But I had no other person who could infiltrate his pack. "Fuck! She can never do anything right! So useless." I grunt out in frustration. That bitch, would jeopardize our plans before it starts, but it's just a feeling right? I concluded, and picked up the phone that buzzed on my table. "Alpha Diego, tell me you succeeded." He ordered, before I could speak. "It shouldn't be that hard to convince your girl. She's Naive." "Hmmm, Alpha Stone." I started, taking a deep breath. It's always takes up my courage to speak to him without stuttering. "It wasn't as easy as I thought. She has formed such a deep hatred for me, than I expected." I selected my words carefully, not to slip up about my fears. "What!" He yelled right in
Mira’s POV The world felt hazy, like I was stuck underwater. I fought to open my eyes, but they were heavy, pulling me back into the dark, but somewhere above me, voices drifted in and out."Is she dead?" Someone asked coldly, making me wonder who it belonged to. But then, everyone wished me dead which wasn't surprising.I even wished desperately for it."Goddess! Navier! I told you she wasn't ready for this level of training, but you wouldn't listen. Are you trying to kill her?" An angry voice, laced with concern, shouted. "Let's just get her to the hospital, dammit.""Let's wake her up with a bucket of water," a third voice suggested.I couldn't identify the voices except for second, which was Ethan's, as my mind was still foggy. Before I could process anything else, a sudden splash of cold water jolted me awake. As I became more aware of my surroundings, I looked down and saw that my clothes were wet, and Navier was holding an empty bucket, standing a few steps away.My heart san
