Mira’s POV
The commanding voice halted us, and we obediently lowered our heads, overwhelmed by the immense power emanating from him. The omegas whimpered in submission, as if they were in their wolf forms, ready to roll over for a belly rub.“I demand an explanation,” the authoritative voice echoed once more. Startled, we snapped out of our trance. I watched as the men fumbled for words, unsure of how to respond. My gaze met his eyes, and my inner wolf stirred, recognizing him as my mate.I silently thanked the stars for bringing us together, even if it was under less-than-ideal circumstances. At least he would free me from these people. “Alpha, we’re dealing with a pack emergency at the moment. It’s nothing significant, sir,” they replied, their grip on me tightening like a vise. The Alpha growled fiercely, stepping closer to us. Fearing his wrath, they swiftly released me and backed away.No wolf could disobey a direct order from an alpha, especially a true Alpha, unless they were rogue. Rogues were banished or lone wolves who had lost their sanity and remained in their beast form with blood-red eyes. Known for their brutality and ruthlessness, they spared no one in their path, not even alphas.I rushed into his embrace, relief washing over me as I sought solace in his arms. He held me tightly, exuding the scent of fresh grass and musk. Tilting my head up, he gently held my chin and locked his ocean-blue eyes with mine. The intensity made me blush and feel shy. Lost in his world for those fleeting moments, I was unprepared for what would come next.“Have mercy on us, Alpha, and please stay away from that girl. She isn’t what you think she is,” one of them shouted, pointing an accusing finger at me. “She’s a witch.” “Silence!” the Alpha roared in his deep, commanding voice, filling the air with authority. He turned to me and asked, “How are you? Are you ready to leave?” My mate scoffed, gripping my hand as we prepared to depart.“She’s mute and a stealer wolf!” one man interjected, halting our progress. I tugged at my mate’s hand, urging him to ignore them and continue walking. But to my surprise, he yanked his hand away from mine. I knew trouble was brewing. I wanted him to disregard their words and pretend not to hear them, but that was wishful thinking.“What do you mean?” he spoke in a low, eerie voice that sent shivers down my spine. The man with the loudest opinion stepped forward, while the others’ gazes lingered on me with evident lust. They dared to move closer, as if they intended to touch me. However, my mate snarled menacingly, interposing himself between me and the man, effectively thwarting his advances.“Touch her again if you don’t value your arms because I’ll rip them off the next time you lay a hand on her,” he shouted at the man. Then, turning towards me, he demanded an explanation. “Explain yourself.”“Alpha, she is mute and unable to speak. What’s worse, she’s a stealer wolf, a seductress who lures men with her intoxicating scent. You’re a highly esteemed Alpha who deserves someone better than her,” the man explained hastily, shouting and pointing accusing fingers at me.“Who knows what she’s trying to do? Perhaps she aims to seduce you like she does with several unmated males in this pack. Didn’t you notice the way she hugged you?” another voice chimed in from the crowd.“Stealer wolves are notorious for their adulterous ways. She’s only trying to seduce you. Please stay away from her,” added Eden, one of the pack warriors. Disbelief washed over me as I realized the pack’s conspiracy against me. This very man had cornered me just last week during my visit to the farmers’ market, proposing himself as a lover. I promptly declined, remaining faithful to my destined mate. I couldn’t fathom how he stooped so low as to smear my name in front of my mate. Hot tears streamed down my face. To what extent was he willing to go to get what he wanted? Just because I rejected his advances.“Aren’t you going to explain what’s happening and defend yourself?” the Alpha bellowed, looking at me expectantly. But all I could do was shake my head and plead silently, tears cascading down my cheeks.“So, everything they say is true?” he asked, turning his gaze upon me. “You’re not only mute, but also a slut?” My mate’s words pierced through me like a knife. Desperate to speak out and expose their lies, I opened my mouth, hoping that words would flow forth to silence them. Falling to my knees, I begged him, sobbing with frustration.“It’s all true, Alpha. She has been mute since birth,” they chorused with furrowed brows.“No way, I can’t accept you,” he declared, looking away dismissively. “Stay away from me, or I might just kill you.” With a forceful push, he sent me sprawling to the ground. Refusing to let him go, I clung tightly to his leg. This wasn’t how I imagined today would turn out. Day after day, I had endured both physical and mental abuse.Today turned out to be nothing like I had imagined. My family and even the other members of the pack have subjected me to daily physical and mental abuse. But through it all, I held onto the hope of meeting my mate on my 18th birthday, a dream that kept me going when I wanted to give up.“She’s cursed, Alpha, right from the day she was born. Let her go, Alpha,” they all chanted. I vehemently shook my head, refusing to move away from his side. “I reject...” He was about to complete his sentence when I let out a piercing scream.“Nooooo...!” I had no idea where the strength and voice came from. All eyes turned towards me in shock and disbelief. “She can speak? Isn’t that Mira?” Those were the last words I heard before I collapsed into his embrace.Mira’s POV The world felt hazy, like I was stuck underwater. I fought to open my eyes, but they were heavy, pulling me back into the dark, but somewhere above me, voices drifted in and out."Is she dead?" Someone asked coldly, making me wonder who it belonged to. But then, everyone wished me dead which wasn't surprising.I even wished desperately for it."Goddess! Navier! I told you she wasn't ready for this level of training, but you wouldn't listen. Are you trying to kill her?" An angry voice, laced with concern, shouted. "Let's just get her to the hospital, dammit.""Let's wake her up with a bucket of water," a third voice suggested.I couldn't identify the voices except for second, which was Ethan's, as my mind was still foggy. Before I could process anything else, a sudden splash of cold water jolted me awake. As I became more aware of my surroundings, I looked down and saw that my clothes were wet, and Navier was holding an empty bucket, standing a few steps away.My heart san
Mira POV.I awoke the next morning feeling exhausted and worn out. Memories of the previous night flooded my mind, filling me with dread at the thought of going to the training ground.I glanced at the wall clock and saw that it was almost eight."Shit," I cursed in my head, jumping off the bed. Despite my fear, I knew I had no choice but to get to the field as early as possible before he arrived. The thought of being punished for lateness spurred me into action.I quickly bathed and changed into clean clothes, making a mental note to wash the dirty laundry piling up from the day before. As I left my room, I noticed maids heading toward Navier's quarters, whispering and laughing as they climbed the stairs. That cruel, pampered bastard was likely waiting for breakfast in bed. With so many maids catering to his every whim, why had he insisted on making me his personal servant? Why couldn't he just leave me be?Oh right, he made me his personal maid just to have me around, for the sake o
Mira's POV.I forced myself back to my feet, with the help of Beta Ethan who was looking at me with undisguised pity in his eyes. “Are you okay?” His voice was low, concerned. “I don’t know what Navier was thinking, making you run a hundred laps on your first day of training.” His frustration blends into his tone.I offered him a weak smile and nodded, but I didn’t dare sign. If I did, I knew I’d break down completely.I felt the weight of stares from the warriors nearby. Some looked at me with pity, others with barely concealed anger. Their Luna, a weakling. I dropped my gaze to the ground, my stomach twisting. They must resent me and probably sympathize with their Alpha for being saddled with a mate like me. No one wanted a liability. I smiled at him weakly, nodding in response to his question. I knew that if I tried to sign, I would only break down in tears.Ethan’s voice pulled me from my thoughts. “You should get that wound checked at the hospital,” he said, nodding toward my s
Alpha Navier's POV.I had intentionally told the guards to bring Mira into my office. She had done exactly what I had feared she would do in just a day since her arrival.I blame myself for that, I shouldn't have given her the freedom to move around the pack when she got here. I should have personally taken her to her room and locked the doors instead of assigning her to the kitchen. But that was about to change. As soon as I confirmed my suspicions.“Alpha, we are here.” The guard announced at the door. “Come in,” I yelled.I watched her with disgust as she was dragged in by the guards. She was shaking in fear, and from the white trail on her face it seemed like she had been crying. As soon as they entered, I dismissed the guards coldly and turned toward Cole, the witness. “Is she the same lady you saw with the wolf yesterday?” I asked him.Cole nodded his head and pointed at Mira. “Yes, I'm very sure. I saw her speaking to a man I didn't recognize, before I could get there the ma
Alana's POV. For a moment, nothing happened. Alpha Navier didn't speak or move. Then, his growl broke the silence in the room. He slowly looked up to stare at the visibly shaking guard."And you're just telling me this now?" he snarled, his voice gripping with anger and frustration, though I couldn't read his expression. The guard flinched, his head bowing in submission to his Alpha. "We tried mind-linking you, Alpha, but... your mind-link was blocked," he answered, Bowing his head as a sign of respect.I could feel fear roll off him in waves, sharp and acrid to my heightened senses. As a stealer wolf, I've always been able to pick up on people's emotions and voices to judge what they are feeling on the inside."Where's the wolf now? Has he breached our walls?" Alpha Navier asked in a soft yet strong voice. I felt the urge to shout at him to get the fuck up and investigate what's going on, but who am I to order the Alpha around, especially the one who hates my guts? The guard hesita
Mira’s POV The tension in the room was suffocating, as we all waited for Alpha Navier's response. He didn't respond immediately, as he sat back in his chair, his sharp gaze flicking between me and Carrie. His face showed no expression. I held my breath, waiting for his response. Finally, he shrugged and said, “She’s not worth my time,” before calmly returning to his meal, as if I meant nothing to him. His words struck me like a whip. I had hoped—foolishly, that perhaps he might step in and defend me, even after all he’d done. But his cold dismissal cut deeper than I’d expected, because he was my mate. Across the room, Carrie smirked, her face showing the satisfaction she felt. I could feel tears burning at the edges of my eyes, but I forced them down. I wouldn’t cry. Not here. Not in front of her. Life had never been fair to abominations like me, and today was no different. I felt a hand on my dress, brushing the splattered food on my dress, and I flinched before I realiz
