Mira’s POV
The tension in the room was suffocating, as we all waited for Alpha Navier's response. He didn't respond immediately, as he sat back in his chair, his sharp gaze flicking between me and Carrie. His face showed no expression. I held my breath, waiting for his response. Finally, he shrugged and said, “She’s not worth my time,” before calmly returning to his meal, as if I meant nothing to him. His words struck me like a whip. I had hoped—foolishly, that perhaps he might step in and defend me, even after all he’d done. But his cold dismissal cut deeper than I’d expected, because he was my mate. Across the room, Carrie smirked, her face showing the satisfaction she felt. I could feel tears burning at the edges of my eyes, but I forced them down. I wouldn’t cry. Not here. Not in front of her. Life had never been fair to abominations like me, and today was no different. I felt a hand on my dress, brushing the splattered food on my dress, and I flinched before I realized it was Hen. Her touch was gentle as she helped me to my feet. "Carrie," I heard the furious voice of the head Omega. I raised my head to see the head Omega striding towards us from the stairs. "I don't care who the hell you are. All I know is you're apologizing to that young lady right now!" "Didn't you hear me?" The head Omega shouted again, standing in the middle of the dining room. "I apologized to her." She repeated. "Mama T, I didn't do anything wrong." Carrie smiled with a look of confusion on her face, as if she hadn't laid her leg out for me to trip on. "Why should I apologize?" She asked, looking around the room with a smirk before she landed her eyes on me. To say I was embarrassed was putting it mildly, I honestly feel like a fool, a complete fool to be precise. Mama T raised an eyebrow. “I saw you,” she said plainly. “You tripped her on purpose. Own it.” I could hear murmurs from the maids in the room, but they don't dare talk if the rules here are similar to my pack's rules. Maids have no right to get involved in the Alphas household matters. It has been that way for eternity. "So? Get on with it."Mama T said, her eyes fixed on Carrie who was looking anywhere but her. "Bu-t..." Carrie whined, her eyes darting from Mara T to me. I guess Mama T is the enforcer in the pack house, from the way Carrie is fidgeting, it seems like she dares not disobey the Head Omegas order, but I was wrong in my assumption. Carrie’s smile hardened. “She tripped herself. It’s not my fault she doesn’t know how to walk properly.” Her voice was honeyed with mockery, and my fists clenched at my sides. “It’s okay, Mama T,” I signed, hoping to diffuse the situation. “I’m fine. Like she said, I tripped on my own.” I trembled slightly, and I cursed myself for the weakness. I'm tired of being the victim that everyone pities. The innocent that never gets justices I looked around and true to my words, some of the maids were sending me pity looks and scornful looks. I wanted to sink to the floor and escape out of this horrible place, even if it's the dungeon. Mama T turned to me, her stern expression softening for a moment. “No, it’s not okay,” she said firmly before turning her gaze back to Carrie. “You’re going to apologize, or—” “Or what?” Carrie interrupted, her voice rising in anger and amusement. "What can you do to me? I’m the Beta’s daughter. You don’t scare me.” Ah. That explained her arrogance. A privileged, pampered princess, and she's allegedly my mate's mistress. "You expect me to apologize for this.... Thing?" She pointed at me, "Look at her, she looks and smells horrible. So it's my fault that I was looking out for the safety of the packs and stopped this dirty thing from sitting at the dining table and spreading her disease around?" She asked in disbelief, clapping her hands in mockery. "Well I'm not sorry, for ensuring mine and the Alpha's safety." She finally said. "From the mute." I stared at her with wide eyes, how I quickly became a threat to the entire pack. But then, my mind went back to my walk to the packhouse, my father's visit. My heart raced in fear, at the realization that Carrie had overheard my conversations with my father. No need to say it, but I'm doomed. Mama T smirked, undeterred. “Oh, I see. Because she works in the kitchen, she’s beneath you. Is that it?” She laughed, a sharp, mocking sound that echoed through the hall. “Tell me, Carrie, what did they teach you at that fancy medical school? How to spread your legs?” A ripple of shocked laughter swept through the room. Even Cole, the guard who’d escorted me earlier, couldn’t suppress a grin as he burst out laughing. Carrie’s face flushed a furious red, and she shot to her feet. “You don’t have the right to speak to me like that!” she shouted, her earlier smugness replaced with rage. “And you don’t have the right to treat her like trash,” Mama T shot back, folding her arms. "I don't know how you managed to be the pack's nurse, you yourself are the danger to this pack's health." Mama T replied. "She's a threat to the pack because she can affect us with her muteness." Carrie shouted. I sighed in relief, when she mentioned my muteness. The argument escalated, their voices rising as the rest of the room watched in stunned silence. For a moment, I forgot my own humiliation, finding solace in the fact that the Head Omega was standing up for me. For the first time in my life, I felt like I was not alone in the world. And the feeling felt surreal. They continued to banter, and I enjoyed every minute of it. I suppose that makes me evil but I can't help but smile at Carrie's ugly face. The shattering sound of a plate silenced the argument and we all turned to the source of the sound. Apparently, Alpha Navier was done with the childish banter going on. “Enough!” Alpha Navier growled, his voice booming through the dining hall. He stood, his expression dark and furious. The room fell silent as everyone bowed their heads in submission. Mama T and Carrie exchanged one last glare before lowering their eyes. The tension was thick, and for a moment, the only sound was the faint clink of silverware. And then, the door slammed open. The loud bang echoed like a thunderclap, drawing every gaze to the entrance. A warrior stood there, his chest heaving as if he’d run all the way. “Alpha!” he shouted, his voice filled with urgency. “An Alpha has been spotted crossing our borders at high speed!”Mira’s POV The world felt hazy, like I was stuck underwater. I fought to open my eyes, but they were heavy, pulling me back into the dark, but somewhere above me, voices drifted in and out."Is she dead?" Someone asked coldly, making me wonder who it belonged to. But then, everyone wished me dead which wasn't surprising.I even wished desperately for it."Goddess! Navier! I told you she wasn't ready for this level of training, but you wouldn't listen. Are you trying to kill her?" An angry voice, laced with concern, shouted. "Let's just get her to the hospital, dammit.""Let's wake her up with a bucket of water," a third voice suggested.I couldn't identify the voices except for second, which was Ethan's, as my mind was still foggy. Before I could process anything else, a sudden splash of cold water jolted me awake. As I became more aware of my surroundings, I looked down and saw that my clothes were wet, and Navier was holding an empty bucket, standing a few steps away.My heart san
Mira POV.I awoke the next morning feeling exhausted and worn out. Memories of the previous night flooded my mind, filling me with dread at the thought of going to the training ground.I glanced at the wall clock and saw that it was almost eight."Shit," I cursed in my head, jumping off the bed. Despite my fear, I knew I had no choice but to get to the field as early as possible before he arrived. The thought of being punished for lateness spurred me into action.I quickly bathed and changed into clean clothes, making a mental note to wash the dirty laundry piling up from the day before. As I left my room, I noticed maids heading toward Navier's quarters, whispering and laughing as they climbed the stairs. That cruel, pampered bastard was likely waiting for breakfast in bed. With so many maids catering to his every whim, why had he insisted on making me his personal servant? Why couldn't he just leave me be?Oh right, he made me his personal maid just to have me around, for the sake o
Mira's POV.I forced myself back to my feet, with the help of Beta Ethan who was looking at me with undisguised pity in his eyes. “Are you okay?” His voice was low, concerned. “I don’t know what Navier was thinking, making you run a hundred laps on your first day of training.” His frustration blends into his tone.I offered him a weak smile and nodded, but I didn’t dare sign. If I did, I knew I’d break down completely.I felt the weight of stares from the warriors nearby. Some looked at me with pity, others with barely concealed anger. Their Luna, a weakling. I dropped my gaze to the ground, my stomach twisting. They must resent me and probably sympathize with their Alpha for being saddled with a mate like me. No one wanted a liability. I smiled at him weakly, nodding in response to his question. I knew that if I tried to sign, I would only break down in tears.Ethan’s voice pulled me from my thoughts. “You should get that wound checked at the hospital,” he said, nodding toward my s
Alpha Navier's POV.I had intentionally told the guards to bring Mira into my office. She had done exactly what I had feared she would do in just a day since her arrival.I blame myself for that, I shouldn't have given her the freedom to move around the pack when she got here. I should have personally taken her to her room and locked the doors instead of assigning her to the kitchen. But that was about to change. As soon as I confirmed my suspicions.“Alpha, we are here.” The guard announced at the door. “Come in,” I yelled.I watched her with disgust as she was dragged in by the guards. She was shaking in fear, and from the white trail on her face it seemed like she had been crying. As soon as they entered, I dismissed the guards coldly and turned toward Cole, the witness. “Is she the same lady you saw with the wolf yesterday?” I asked him.Cole nodded his head and pointed at Mira. “Yes, I'm very sure. I saw her speaking to a man I didn't recognize, before I could get there the ma
Alana's POV. For a moment, nothing happened. Alpha Navier didn't speak or move. Then, his growl broke the silence in the room. He slowly looked up to stare at the visibly shaking guard."And you're just telling me this now?" he snarled, his voice gripping with anger and frustration, though I couldn't read his expression. The guard flinched, his head bowing in submission to his Alpha. "We tried mind-linking you, Alpha, but... your mind-link was blocked," he answered, Bowing his head as a sign of respect.I could feel fear roll off him in waves, sharp and acrid to my heightened senses. As a stealer wolf, I've always been able to pick up on people's emotions and voices to judge what they are feeling on the inside."Where's the wolf now? Has he breached our walls?" Alpha Navier asked in a soft yet strong voice. I felt the urge to shout at him to get the fuck up and investigate what's going on, but who am I to order the Alpha around, especially the one who hates my guts? The guard hesita
