LOGINStella’s POV
At the age of 29, I still don’t know what to do with my life.
After studying medicine for six years because that was my dad’s choice, I finally got my degree. Now, I’m fighting for my life as a finance student.
You’re wondering how it happened?
I got into one of the best medical schools at 18, at 24, I graduated but that was not what I wanted. So, I took a year, went back to university to study finance.
And now, my life is a mess. I have no job, my landlord just emailed me that my rent will be due in two weeks. And there is no way to get money without a job. Or is there?
The only logical option is to go to your parents, right?
After I got my medical degree, I told my dad, “That degree is for you. I don’t want anything to do with it. I’ll be going back to school to study finance.”
He shouted and screamed and did everything possible to let me know that if I don’t practice, then I am nothing to him.
I thought he was just being mad in the moment until he actually cut me off.
I had to work some jobs that don’t really pay for me to go to finance school. And now, I’m finally done, nobody wants to hire me.
What a sweet luck I have.
I stared at my laptop which I had completed my application for a post of vacancy I saw online but I was too scared to submit it. What if I get rejected again? The harder I stared at it, the more the information I filed out began to look fake. But those were my credentials, I was just scared.
“You either come out or I’ll come in.” Someone shouted, banging on my door.
I looked at the nightstand beside my bed and saw that the time was 9 pm.
I waded into my small sitting room and opened the door.
“Layla.” I opened my hands. “I missed you too,” I said, pulling her in and shutting the door.
Layla simply looked at me, shook her head like I was a clown, and walked to the sofa to sit.
“Stella, what did the landlord mean by the rent is two weeks due? We have always paid in advance. What’s happening?”
Layla, my sister. I mean my biological sister. Most people called me adopted because I did not look like any of my parents. I looked like my grandmother who died a few years back.
Before Layla moved in with her boyfriend, Matthew, we were staying together in this apartment so her email was registered along with mine.
“Yeah. I forgot to pay.” I lied. “I’ll pay before it is actually due,” I said.
How was I going to tell my sister that I didn’t have a job?
That I haven’t had one in a while. And it was thanks to our advanced payment that I’ve had a roof over my head and the groceries she left behind are what I have been eating.
“No problem. If you need any help, just call me.” She said and wadded into the kitchen. “Anyways, that isn’t my purpose for being here. I got two tickets for the concert and Matthew got an emergency call from the hospital. Something about emergency surgery so he couldn’t come with me.” She explained. “Do you know what that means?” She said, wiggling her eyebrows.
“Hopefully not what I am thinking.” I groaned.
“It is exactly what you are thinking.” She came back from the kitchen and pulled me from the sofa where I were sitting. “Let’s get you dressed up.”
“Layla,” I said pitifully. “I have an early day tomorrow.” I lied.
“Last I checked, you were not a doctor. Nobody will die if you show up one hour late.” She tugged at me again.
“You’re the negative influence in my life,” I said, finally giving in.
“Some also said I’m the most positive thing in your life. Depends on the day.” She countered.
“Wear something concert-worthy.” She yelled from behind me. “Or I will find one for you.”
I walked into my room and flopped on my bed first.
I looked around and saw the laptop I was working on before Layla came. On it, my application for Blackwell Enterprise was still filled out.
Wait, what if it was a prank? Someone using their company name to trick people.
Because who hires someone as a Secretary? I thought they just promoted someone in the company who was capable.
“You’re thinking of sleeping?” Layla sounded from beside me.
I quickly shut my laptop and put it aside.
“Of course not. I was just shutting down with my laptop before dressing.”
“Well, my minutes of grace has elapsed. Now, I have to find a suitable concert-worthy outfit for you.” She walked to my wardrobe.
“Um, there is no need. I can do that myself.” I said, trying to divert her away from my wardrobe.
“I gave you time to do that.” She side-stepped me. “Now, it's time for me to shine.”
Forty-five minutes later, we were standing in front of a building that was actively buzzing with energy.
“Let’s party!” Layla screamed and dragged me into the building.
After a few minutes of us trying to keep a little of our composure, we lost it. We sang the loudest in my opinion. We sang till our voices cracked. We sang till daybreak before we finally agreed that we’ve had enough.
“What says the time?” Layla asked. “My phone died while we were inside.”
I pulled out my phone from my bag and turned it on.
“Three thi- shit.” I screamed.
Below the time was a notification from Blackwell Enterprise.
“Are you good?” Layla asked.
“Yeah. Sorry. I’m good. The time is three thirty-five.”
Your application was well received. We will be glad to have you on board. You are expected to begin tomorrow without any further ado.
Please report to work tomorrow by 8:00 am. Do well to be on time.
Yours sincerely,
Rose, Blackwell Enterprise.
What the fuck? I didn’t submit that application, right?
I couldn’t even think properly because my head was spinning from the screaming and jumping.
This is the only form of acceptance I have received in the past two months, I couldn’t flop.
“Will you be fine from here?” I asked Layla, trying to keep my urgency to leave out of my voice.
“I should. My house is about five minutes from here. I’ll see you later?”
“Yeah.” I said and hugged her. “I love you.”
“I love you too.” She replied.
I stopped a passing taxi and went home.
Hopefully, I don’t sleep off and miss my first day of work.
Stella’s POVThe vibration of my phone sent me jumping out of bed in panic. I turned around only to see it was my alarm set for 7:00 am. Right on cue, my head slammed. I quickly held it as I tried to think of last night’s event. The concert. The mail. The… “Shit. What time is it?” I looked around for my phone to look at the time. 8:24 am. I’m officially finished. I quickly ran into the bathroom, had my bath, brushed my teeth and fixed my hair in record time. I don’t think I have ever been this fast in my life

Liam’s POVBefore I knew it, the weekend was over and Monday morning was here. I went through my usual morning routine. I hit the gym,had my bathe, prepare for work and was about to hit the road when a small voice stopped me. “Daddy?” A tiny voice called. I turned back to see Kaleb. I momentarily forgot that I didn’t live alone anymore. “Good morning, Kaleb. How was your night?” I squatted in front of him.“Fine.” He replied, using his palm to try to wipe sleep away from his eyes. “Where are you going?”
Liam’s POVAfter making the guest room as comfortable as possible for Kaleb, I put him to sleep. But not after he made me download a bedtime book to read to him as he slept. All of these were strange. I have never done it before. But I’ve seen Linda do it. She would put him to bed, picked a book from a shelf nearby, read to him till he slept, and tucked him in properly. They were strange but I wasn’t complaining. At least it took off some of the things on my mind. Or at least until I got to my room. When I got to my room, I took a shower, changed into some comfy clothes, and tried to sleep. As if everybody leaving me
Liam’s POV If you think you have had a bad day, then I’ve had worse. First, I was left at the altar by the woman I was supposed to marry because of the ring bearer. Second, I got a child. My ring bearer. Let’s roll the tape back. “What? You’re surprised?” Lola stepped closer and whispered so that only I could hear her. She looked at me like I had fallen directly into her trap. And yes, I did. I fell directly into her trap. The ring bearer was the child of the woman I had a one-night stand with a few years back when I was reckless and made a drunken mistake while Lola and I were still dating. Ever since my drunken mistake, I’ve been paying for child support behind Lola’s back but I guess it wasn’t really behind her back. I looked into the congregation to find the mother of the child who was still walking down the aisle, as if on a mission. She was nowhere to be seen. The guests were too mesmerized by my ring bearer to even notice what was going on on the altar. “Lola, what’s
